CIARRA Range Hood 30 Inch Under Cabinet Ductless Stainless Steel

The first thing buyers should be aware of, which is NOT listed anywhere I could see in the listing, is that the unit has a three prong plug. If you're building your kitchen from scratch, wiring is easier because of the location choices of hikes in the wall. Otherwise, if you're like me, and replacing your hood unit, I would have liked for the company to note whether it was bare wire or plugged. The reason being, if there's something wrong after install, and you need to send it back for replacement, they might refuse if you have cut the plug off. That said: If you're not comfortable with bare wiring/electricity, get a handyman to do this for you. I'm not an electrician, but don't mind dabbling. It's actually extremely easy to do. Here are the steps: 1. I made sure to plug it in and test the fan modes and lighting before snipping the three prong plug off. 2. Turn off the breaker to the oven hood in your electrical switch box. DO NOT SKIP THIS PART OR YOU CAN DIE. 3. Now that you're safe to work, cut the three prong plug off of the power cable. Take a razor and slice the black shielding. About 2 inches long. This will expose 3 separate wires. They will be black, white and green. 4. The BLACK wire is the "HOT" or "live" wire. Green is ground and white is neutral, which takes any unused electricity back to the circuit box. These colors will match up to the wires coming out of your wall. Basically, strip each wire so you have about an inch worth of copper, twist said copper so that it is all taught and not frayed. Then match the like colors and wrap the copper wire you just twisted, around the thick bare wire from the wall. 5. Put electrical tape around the wound wires, but not too much. About 3 wrap arounds. Put a wire cap on the joined and taped wires and twist the cap on until it is snug. Repeat for the other two. 6. Put excess power cable back in the wall. Done. Pretty much. Mine is ductless, and I chose to use the top screw holes rather than the back facing ones because I didn't want to drill into my tile. My previous unit was screwed to the top, so I knew that the same screws were just the right size. If you do want to drill into tile, make sure to have the proper drill bit type. Probably carbide. (Masonry) I did have my wife hold the unit up for me until I was able to get 2 screws in to where I marked the holes with a pencil and drilled a pilot hole, and highly advise you also get someone to give you a hand as well. Just a PITA otherwise. Works great. Lights are bright, fan isn't crazy loud and looks great. I would maybe take half a star off for the fact that there's no information about the wiring, but I'm not even sure if that's fair considering it's not necessarily in terms of product usage, useful. As far as usage goes five stars so far.

Really happy with product. Slim design looks great and doesn't impede stovetop work. Plenty of light. Variable fan speeds are efficient and not too noisy. Came very well packed with all templates and hardware intact. Very good value.

With this range hood we replaced an older one that had seemed too big and hung down too low, a head-bumper with light and fan switches that were hidden under the hood. This Ciarra hood doesn't stick out quite as far, but its nose is much thinner. We've agreed that now we can look into a pot on the stove without bumping our heads on the hood. And its controls are out on the tip of the nose in full view. The fan is not obnoxiously loud, and the lights are not all that bright, but provide a very white light. I've now cooked under it without bumping my head on it, and the lights were sufficient. We did the installation ourselves, and were gratified that the Ciarra hood is lightweight and easy to lift into place. There are four holes for screws to hold it in place vertically, and the holes are easily accessible when the metal-mesh filters are removed. Once I had the space ready for it, it wasn't all that difficult to lift and fasten it into place. The width seems standard at around 30 inches. It has a power cord about 3 feet long with a straight 3-prong plug. Our old one connected the same way, so was no problem to connect. Our application was not vented, so we use it in recirculation mode. That is, its fan will draw air in from under the hood and exhaust it through grill holes on top of the nose. The Ciarra can be fitted with a carbon filter that covers the fan intake, so it will draw air through the filter, which may actually accomplish some odor reduction and clean the air a bit. The filters are sold separately, though you may have bought them bundled with the hood. If you don't buy them bundled, there's not much help finding the right carbon filter for your Ciarra hood. There are at least two types. In all, I'm pleased with the new hood, especially for the price.

Installed the range hood in January. Today, March 14, it started clicking loudly an then started smoking. We got it turned off before it potentially caught in fire. It looks nice but apparently not great quality. Update. The company has responded and they are sending us another unit. I appreciate the prompt response and the service provided. Update. The company reached out on March 16 to solve the problem. After a couple of emails, they agreed to send a new unit. Today is March 30th and I have emailed three times in the last fiew days to get an ETA on the new unit. I have not received a response on if the unit was sent, or if there is even any shipping information. The company is now a ghost. It has been almost a month since they said they would send a new unit and now no one will answer any questions.

Decent range hood. I agree with previous review that the screws it comes with are poor quality and strip easily. Recommend getting your own higher quality screws. Unit is very sleek and functional. Suction could be better but it’s not bad and gets the job done. Overall good product for the price.

This is a beautiful product. I like how quiet it is while in use.

Comes with a plug which is very weird, most people don’t have plugs in these spots, otherwise works well so far.
