The first (top) answer to this question is correct. So, the higher the GDU, the more potent the product is. Note that when shopping for Bromelain products, GDU is usually specified by gram weight. Note also the weight of EACH capsule or tablet which is usually 500 mg or 1/2 gram. So in this case, the ingredients list says *per capsule, so you'll be getting 1,200 GDU per each 500 mg capsule, not 2,400 GDU.

Kathy- I take Bromelain as part of a combination of pills to guard against a recurrence of Gout- they aid in flushing uric acid crystals from your system. Sorry, don't know about effect on pain, but do know they came highly recommended for gout relief
