does the extension pole from the electric model work on the cordless model?

Sorry I did not purchase the pole. I thought it would be too end heavy for me to handle.

How far does the saw reach. I have some high dead beaches to remove.

Only as high as you can reach and still push in the handle.

How is this with a thiner branch. Will it would it work with a smaller branch that will bend?

Yes it works quite well with any branch that fits in it's "mouth"

Normally on an ornamental tree, you'd under cut the limb before cutting to prevent the bark peeling back. Is it necessary with this type of saw?

I don't think it's necessary, it gives a clean cut all the way through. The saw blade closes in to the limb diameter as you press down. It's possible to do if you wanted to. I'm not a tree specialist, however. I do know that I absolutely love my JawSaw, it's a miracle worker in my book.
