Can the phone charge wirelessly with the strap?

Yes. I have used a few wireless chargers and never had an issue charging my s22 Ultra with this case.

Is the strap removable?

Yes but of course there would be a slot where the strap would normally be.

What is the metal piece for?

after you have put 2 or 3 fingers between the strap and the phone to hold it,the piece of metal is use to pull down the strap flat with the phone. it can be use also to hang the phone when you not use it. you can check videos on you tube about this cover. personnaly i choose samsung led view cover,because it protect the phone all around. you may consider also the samsung clear view cover.
