Effective
If you have spent the money on a telephoto lens to take decent pictures, why would you NOT add a lens hood to protect your pictures from glaring side lighting? This hood connects solidly but comes off quickly for easy storage (you install it in a reversed position back over the lens) and it does the trick throughout the range of my Canon RFS 18-150 mm lens. The price is decent enough, too.

Canon is notorious for not providing lens hoods for purchased lenses. I purchased a used lens (18-150mm) and found this hood, necessary for a long lens. Fit perfectly! This vendor is excellent for making this product available.

Corners show between 18-24mm lengths on RF-S 18-150mm
The corners of this hood show at wide focal lengths (18-24mm) on the RF-S 18-150mm lens on a Canon R7. That said, it fits on easily both forward and in reverse and appears decent quality. I wish the fit were adjustable though so the vignetting might be able to be mitigated by changing the positioning of the hood at wide focal lengths. As it is there is only one position this hood can be attached in. This hood is only really useable at 28mm-150mm with this lens/body combo, which is most of the range of the lens but still not acceptable for a hood marketed as being dedicated to this lens. Update: After some muscling I got the hood to rotate fully into a better position. It was no longer visible in the corners of wide shots. I suppose it was just stiff or jammed, so that's something to keep in mind re: build quality. I updated my review to 4 stars since it can be re-positioned, but is hesitant to do so.

A quality item and less than half the price of the Canon equivalent
I took a chance and bought this in favour of Canon's own branded version - mainly because it was less than half the price - and it proved a good decision. Apart from the engraving on the top saying JJC instead of Canon, I wouldn't know this wasn't a Canon product. It seems well made, has a quality appearance, fits on to the lens easily but securely both ways round. An earlier review reported that he found it very tight when reversed, which mine certainly isn't, so it seems they may vary, so I'd suggest that if you get one that doesn't fit just right it may be worth returning it for another. It's rather shallow (like the Canon equivalent) because it has to cater for the 18mm end of the zoom range but it will probably help - at least in some situations. If nothing else, provides good protection for the lens against knocks.
