I live in the desert with fine sand blowing at times; does the Blaster remove fine sand?

Yes, I had sand that had blown into my pool (from my filter), the Blaster easily removed all of it. Yes, I used the sleeve to do it.

Can it be used with vinyl pool liners as well?

Yes - I have a vinyl pool liner and it works well.

Is it hard to turn on and off?

Not really. Red button on the bottom side the unit has a tendency to twist because of gravity but pretty simple. Turn it on submerge and let the cleaning begin.

mine died after one season. can you replace battery?

Unless you are really handy,no. It would require sodering the wires to the new battery pack . Call their service dept. for more accurate info. 1-800-298-8800.The one thing in my review that I had issues with is the nickle metal hydride battery. They don't last and the charger doesn't automatically shut off. If they used lithium batteries you can leave it on the charger forever and it wouldn't matter. It is a flaw in an otherwise great product.
