but sturdy enough to stay on your wires/cables
It just simply works. If you are in similar situation as mine, in which you have a bunch of electronics devices, some of them are in use and others are not. One day, you may find a power cord or connection cable and have no clue which device it belongs to, then you will need this to properly lable all your power cords and cable. It's a huge help in that regard, of course in addition to label those in use. It's very to use, just tie and cut and it will be there. It's thin, but sturdy enough to stay on your wires/cables. Its face is small, but provide enough room for you to make note (don't expect to write a whole center on it), and in this case a Sharpie would be helpful.

Quality Cable Tie Tags
I saw a number of conflicting reviews for cable tie tags so I went with the Monoprice brand that I trust and was not disappointed! The size of these tags are sufficient for wrapping single CAT-5 cable, RG-6 quad cable, and 14ga speaker wire. It of course works for wrapping multiple cables. I was most concerned about wrapping a single cable due to reviews about the tie being too loose and slipping about, but they work great- no worries. I use an ultra fine Sharpie retractable marker on these ties and they work great. No smudges. The 90-degree tie label runs parallel with the cable, which aids in reading as well as not causing issues when bundling many cables or pulling through an oversized hole.

Meets my needs
First the bottom line. The tie is good but it helps to wrap it around one full turn before threading it through the locking eye. The id tag is rather small, really small but enough for me to write 4 numbers on it with a Sharpie. Also let the writing dry before using to avoid smudging of the ink. Now some background for anyone interested. I like the ties because they meet my needs and they are inexpensive. I share my Utility closet with my neighbor. The Comcast installer (actually a third party they contract with for installation did not put proper id tags on cables. In the past, when my neighbor had any problems with their TV or Internet, these techs would sometimes disconnect me by mistake. I want them to be able to identify the Co-ax cables there that go in my unit. Hopefully, it will avoid that once in a while loss of service for me and even if they do disconnect my cables, it will be easy for me to hook them back up without having to call for a service tech to come out.

Perfect for labeling instrument/mic cables
I needed a cheap and easy way to distinguish my personal guitar cables from the ones belonging to my church. These work perfectly. You can write on the label with a Sharpie and it doesn't smudge. For 1/4" instrument cables (and for standard XLR mic cables) it will tighten enough that it won't slide up and down the cable; the label flexes a little bit to get it tight. There is just enough room on the label to write my initials and the cable length (which is also helpful when trying to find the one you want in a bagful of cables!). I chopped off the excess and they're very unobtrusive. You could label both ends of 50 instrument cables with this if you wanted to, and you can't beat the price.

Tough and strong - Relatively inexpensive - But a couple surprises buyers might miss
This was my first purchase of this style zip-tie. These ties for labeling cords and other things are good -- tough, strong, tite locking -- but they have a couple of surprises someone new to them might miss. First the ties are more translucent, almost clear, than white. . .writing doesn't stand out as starkly as one might think and writing on one side shows through to the other. The writing area is small, about 1x1/4 inches, so label text must be very short and sweet. The zip-tie lock mechanism is above the label area rather than below it, as with other labeling ties, so the thin tie and that broad label area both must be snugged around what it's attached to rather than cinching only the tie tight and the label standing clear -- this design is less of a potential problem (of sliding, for instance) with broader and fatter cords or if the tie is fixed around the plug itself. Another review suggested wrapping the tie a couple of times before locking it to keep it snug on thinner cords, which might be helpful. Given all that, the ties still are very servicable and inexpensive. . .100 in a bag at about half the cost of others (as of 8/2015).

They fit well once zipped, hold strong and sharpies work
Very pleased with these zip tie labels. Once zipped they sit parallel on the cable, and you can write on them with a sharpie. The label space is small, but I made it work.

Good on Dark Cables, with a Trick
Got these to mark outdoor power cords, so I can quickly tell which one I want to plug/unplug (heated bird bath, roof heater cables, etc). As at least one other reviewer has noted, the markable part of these are translucent, allowing the color of the cable to show through. This makes black Sharpie less easy to read when this product is used on a black or dark green cable. The solution I am experimenting with is to apply white tape to the back of the label, so that the tape is sandwiched against the cable, making the surface opaque. I only had (paper) masking tape handy. The initial result is that the writing is very legible. I would suggest white electrical tape instead, since the vinyl is less likely to fall apart with exposure to water. I bought these FROM Amazon, by the way. Others will have to comment on buying from the manufacturer THROUGH Amazon. A note about dimensions: it measures 4 inches from the head to the tip, so the largest circumference of cable on which this will work is more like 2-3/4" (3/4" diameter). Writable surface is 5/16" high, a little under 1" wide. Because the marking surface is held tight against the cable, it is much less likely to snag or snap off as the cable is pulled. I am happy with this product, and would buy again if needed.
