I love this epilator!!! I've had another epilator for years, and it was kinda weak compared to this one, slow and didn't remove everything. I hesitated to buy a new epilator, because I wasn't sure it would be any different. Well, I was wrong!I took me roughly 15 minutes to epilate both legs and remove maybe 90% of the (long enough) hairs. The result was decent, but my legs still weren't smooth as there were lots of very short hairs left. I thought well okay, the epilator probably won't be able to get them, so I'll do another session tomorrow. But then I noticed that even those very short hairs can be removed if I use the epilator VERY slowly and control the angle. So, to remove the rest 10% requires to be more specific and takes more time. Sometimes I need to go over the same area several times, but the epilator WORKS!! My old one just wasn't able to remove such short hairs. Overall, it takes about an hour to actually remove alllll the hairs, but I love the process in weird way, it's so meditating lol.I know some people find it painful, and I know what you mean! I've been epilating my legs since I was 15, and I remember how painful the first time was (lol...), my skin was incredibly sensitive. But after a few times it got better and I even started to enjoy the process (lol again!). Even if I skip a few MONTHS for one reason or another, my tolerance stays the same. I don't know how it works but yeah. No pain.But I want to warn people that this is just another epilator that works by removing hair, and literally all of them feel the same. You can't find one that works with no pain (in case you find it painful).So I'd recommend to do this: start slowly by preparing your skin. Pluck some hairs here and there using tweezers. This will 1) help you build some tolerance and 2) make it less painful to use the epilator since there will be fewer hairs left. Do this for a few days, just remove 10, 20 or 30 hairs every day from different areas. It's not as painful to pluck one hair at a time. Then when you think you're ready, shave your legs. NEXT day take a warm shower to make your skin softer. Then try to epilate. Hopefully, you won't feel much pain because the hairs will be very short (if they're still TOO short, try to epilate next day) and because you've prepared your skin and built some tolerance by plucking hairs. This was my method when I epilated my armpits for the first time, because it was literally impossible to epilate them with no preparation!! If it's still painful, try to keep the epilator at one area (do not move it). It will remove hairs for 1 sec and you will feel some pain for a short period of time, but after that there will be fewer hairs on that area, so you'll be able to tolerate it much better. Alternatively, try moving the epilator very quickly so that it removes very few hairs from various areas, not several hairs at the same time. Try to find what works best for you. If it's too overwhelming, stop and try next day, epilate every day for a couple of minutes. Trust me, you will soon be able to epilate legs like it's your hobby! I swear it's not painful at all, especially when I'm not lazy and epilate often while all the hairs haven't grown back yet. It's much easier to do this every day or at least twice a week than once a month.After the procedure, I moisturize my legs with the Kikumasamune emulsion (not the lotion/toner!). I'm in love with it, it's very cheap in stores with Asian skincare products, is easy to spread, has a cooling effect, absorbs really quickly, moisturizes and calms the skin down. I also use it on my face.A COUPLE OF CONS:- pretty loud. Just be aware if this factor is important for you. I'd prefer it to be quieter.- the built-in light can't be turned off. Not a deal breaker, just would be nice if it was possible to turn it off sometimes. When the room is well-lit, the little light makes it harder to see the hairs, but again, I'm totally okay with that.- not cordless.I'd give it 4.5 starts if I could but decided to give 5 stars for overall performance and the results. I hope they make a quieter and cordless version one day!

Yes it hurts but it’s so effective, it’s worth it. I use it on my legs once a month and the hair regrowth is sparse and finer.

I use this once a week for my underarms. I dont like body hair thats why the frequency is so high and I have thick Asian hair so it grows quickly. It works like a charm. It takes me 10-15 minutes for the whole process including clean up, oil, lotion after for my underarms and my legs take me 30-40 mins bc Im 5'8. Before getting this, I would wax my under arms at home weekly so using the epilator isnt painful for me. My leg hair grows back in 3-4 weeks. Super smooth legs and underarms after.CONS: It does miss very short hairs. Multiple passes for my legs and my leg hair is thin. Hard to get the hair around my knees. Cord gets tangled sometimes.Update: after using this for 2 years upgrading to the silk 9.

Better than shaving or waxing for sure. I have thick hair that grows back super fast. I also have sensitive skin that is irritated by shaving. This lasts a good two weeks. It takes about 20 minutes per leg, lower leg only. Only a couple minutes for underarms. This one is better than the Panasonic in my opinion, it gets hairs faster. yes it's painful but bearable for me. For ingrown hairs you have to heavily exfoliate the day before and a few days after (I use a korean towel), it's the same as shaving. I like using it dry bc I can watch TV and I wouldn't want to do it 40 min in the shower.The trimmer is also a really nice addition. It does pull a little because it's dry only.

TL;DR Summary:I wouldn't recommend this device and will likely purchase a replacement in the near future. I really wanted to love this epilator, but unfortunately it just doesn't work as well as I hoped. It's not *terrible*, but does not do well getting thorough results. This means it takes more time than it should and lots of ineffective "hair pulling" - and thus more irritation. This is especially true on finer hair. The device's design also makes it more prone to scratching skin. The razor gets a close shave, but it takes several passes.Note:If you've never used an epilator before, see "FYI for those new to epilators" at the bottom for some general considerations.Detailed Review:Pros:- All the normal "pros" of an epilator (search them if you're new to the process)- The power cord is pretty long. Anyone who has tried to use an epilator with a short cord knows how annoying it can be to do yoga on your counter, trying to get enough reach, while not making a mess of hair all over your floor. (Using a small extension cord is always an option, but can also be annoying.)- The light is great. It's really nice to see what the target is, especially when you're going back to get any missed hair(s) from the initial pass.- It's nice to have the option of the foil electric shaving head. I didn't expect to like it, but it actually gets a SURPRISINGLY close shave (*but it makes you work for it... see "cons")- It's nice having a single product with multiple functions (trimmer, electric razor, epilator). Even if you don't typically use them, it's nice to have the option.Neutral:- The "massage" head does seem to work to decrease pain very slightly, but not enough to use considering the drawbacks. I find that it makes it more difficult to maneuver the device properly and get as close to the skin without pushing down hard (which increases the risk of scratches, pinching, etc.). I only used it for a few minutes before I removed it.- I didn't use the trimmer attachment, so I can't comment on it.Cons:- All the normal "cons" of an epilator (again, a little research will explain what to expect better and more reliably than any advertising or a review)- My biggest complaint - In my experience, this product does not work well on fine hair. I used another (also very cheap, entry-level) epilator in the past that seemed to work MUCH better on even the finest hair (my hair is mostly dark and thick, but like most people, there is usually more fine hair mixed in than we realize). The style of the plates on my original epilator were different (see photos), and I wish I had purchased that kind again. The epilator on THIS device has several, tiny plates that actually look like individual "tweezer" heads (also see photos). The other epilator I had (that worked better) had one, contiguous series of metal disks that spun together. I was able to do a more thorough job, in less time, with less irritation with my original model because it pulled far more hair out the first time. With this product, I have to keep going back over the same spots to get everything, and usually I feel like I still don't.- I also found this device is more prone to pinching and scratching the actual skin its self. This too is related to the style of the "tweezer"-type plates. Because all these plates have square corners, they tend to be sharp. As they are spinning extremely quickly, if you press even a little too hard, they scratch the skin as they spin by. This isn't an issue with my previous epilator, which has no sharp edges (but the rounded disks instead).- The foil razor head takes several passes over the same place, in multiple directions, to get a thorough shave. I'm less familiar with electric razors, so I can't comment on how it compares to others of a similar style. Trying this made me curious to try an electric, foil-style razor more regularly... but a different one.FYI for those new to epilators:I HAVE used other epilators before. For the record, none of them are pain-free so if you've never used one before, keep that in mind. It's a little frustrating when there are negative reviews just because they can be painful to use (though such advertising claims are equally frustrating!). No matter what epilator you choose, they work by ripping the hair out by the root, one after another, in quick secession. They have benefits that still make them worth using for some people (myself included), but that's personal preference. Also, it's true that after the first few times, it gets less painful; with repeated uses, the hair follicle and root get weaker, and the new hair grows in finer, so less force is needed to pull the hair out, causing less pain. This is true of epilating, waxing, tweezing, or any combination of these or any other hair removal procedure that works by pulling the entire hair out. There are 2 ways that an individual epilator can impact how painful it is to use: 1) a built in skin massager or barrier (which has other pros and cons, as noted in my review; personally I do not like these), and 2) The plates used to "tweeze" out the hair work well enough to pull the entire hair out the FIRST time (rather than giving a strong pull on the hair, but not strong enough to pull it out, and it taking several "tries" of pulling on that hair before it actually removes it (causing more pain and irritation).

So, I love reading reviews, but I seldom write one. I could not avoid it this time though. I just bought this and used it for the first time today. For years, I’ve shaved… and then waxed. I don’t love waxing because even though it works when you get the hang of it, I’m not a fan of letting my hair get long enough to wax every time. Really… what’s the point of wanting to not have hair in areas and waxing just so you can grow it out to wax again?! So, I’ve always just gone back to shaving. I’m not a very hairy woman, but I do like to be completely clean shaven. I’ve used tweezers before… but that takes forever! Even not being very hairy. I didn’t even know this nifty little device existed until I was googling! So I decided to try it. It is painful, but if you have ever waxed before, you know that’s painful too! And unlike waxing, no need to heat up wax, apply, wait for it to cool and set, try to find an area to lift…etc. You can just go for it! I was in the growing out stage of waxing so my hair was a bit grown out, but nothing like a full grain of rice that waxing suggests. So, I went for it! Wow! I am amazed. It took me about the length of time that I would let my wax heat up and then turn down and let it get to the waxing consistency in the wax pot (approximately 20 mins) to remove hair from ALL of the areas I wanted to with this device! And no mess, other than the hairs. But anyone who’s waxed knows that process is messy too, strings of wax all over if a person isn’t careful. And my skin feels smooth. It’s a bit irritated, but not anymore than after waxing. I will be doing this from now on! The only thing I want to give advice about is although you can pretty much use this back and forth and in any direction the hair grows, try and make sure to hold your skin taut if there is any looser skin in any areas… the skin can get pulled into the area between the massage rollers and main roller. It comes right out, just a bit surprising when not expecting it. If you follow that one suggestion though, it goes smoothly to a smooth skin finish!

i have to say that i didn't at all hate using this epilator. as someone who was just trying to get something for cheap, just to have something that worked ok to see how i liked using an epilator, this was perfectly alright. it breaks hairs at a significant rate, and it takes a couple passes to get everything, but it does successfully pluck a slight majority of the hairs in my experience. it also did that without being nearly as abrasive on the skin as the other epilator i've tried at the same price point as this, which i feel is extremely valuable in a budget epilator, and i feel that this model is a great entry point if you're not so sure about things.HOWEVER. there are some substantial downsides that i want to bring up. the fact that it takes a few passes to get the hairs means that it can take a long time to get things sufficiently epilated in comparison to more efficient epilators. like, i shave my arms and legs with the epilator, which can take me upwards of around 2 hours at times, and given that the epilator breaks a decent amount of the hairs, your hair will start to grow back sort of quickly. although the growth will be much thinner than if you just shaved, it's still something to note. additionally, in my use, i found it not quite delicate enough for use in places with sensitive skin, like the bikini area.additionally, mine didn't last super long. this is definitely partially my fault, i often left the epilator plugged in when not in use, which probably slightly increased the wear on the cable and the power jack over time, but i'm really not sure how significant that is to the speed of deterioration. in 7 months, the connection between the cable and the jack in my unit has started to get pretty finnicky, which has made using it a bit more frustrating, and at the end of the day, that is the consequence of design decisions. at some point, the design must take in to account the way that the model is actually used by its users, so i feel that the use of a more resilient power cable/jack is a reasonable thing to expect, to a reasonable extent at least.and all that said, it's also not *that* cheap! i do think the price is sort of reasonable, given the high price of other models and the fact that it's one of the few braun epilators that can be used while plugged in which could be a selling point for people. but given that you could spend 50% more for the silk epil 5, which can only be used wirelessly, but likely performs slightly better and has a significantly more resilient power cable that will be put under less stress over its lifetime, it becomes just a little bit harder to justify the shortcomings of the silk epil 3.that being said, if the $20 is a meaningful price decrease for you, you don't need to use this in water or away from a power outlet, and you're willing to put up with its weaknesses (and maybe if you're able to maintain the power connector!) this does have a reason to exist. i'm not wholly unhappy with my purchase, but i do wish the product could be improved so that it may be a bit more justifiable at its price.

Wouldn't really write a review for a product but this one is amazing. Going from a cheap knockoff brand that ripped my skin out and left a huge scar I was deterred from epilators. I was getting frustrated over shaving my light hair so on a whim tried this one out from a friend recommendation. It does everything so well, works on underarms and legs and arms amazing. Couldn't recommend this product enough.

Very good. I liked the attachments. 10 years ago, I used to have an old Philips Satinelle that hurt SO BAD, I couldn't even use it. But as I saw some reviews about this new one being a little bit more painless, I thought to give it a try. It hurts WAY LESS than what I remember, it's not totally painless for me (each person has different levels of tolerance to pain), but it works well and it's possible to use. My mom used it for many, many years and she doesn't have hair at all in her body now. So, I'm hoping that with time the body hairs tend to disappear, not completely of course, but at least some of it. For facial hair, it broke a little bit my skin but I imagined that since it's a very sensitive area. But overall, great product. In the future, I think I'm going to invest in the fancier and more expensive versions if everything goes well with this one.
