Free Energy releases the follow-up to 2010's debut LP Stuck on Nothing, a new album titled Lovesign, via their own label Free People. (They are no longer on DFA.) It was produced by John Agnello, who has worked with Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr., Kurt Vile, and more. They shared ''Electric Fever'' earlier this year, now the second single ''Dance All Night''. (Other songs on the album boast such Free Energy-ish titles as ''Backscratcher'', ''Hey Tonight'', and ''Girls Want Rock''.)

LOVE SIGN ups the ante
FREE ENERGY are headed in the right direction. LOVE SIGN takes their mission statement of "video arcade fun time rock" from STUCK ON NOTHING and refines it to the point of near perfection. The production value here is pristine without taking away any of the rock gut punch.DANCE ALL NIGHT = This generation's HYSTERIA by Def Leppard. That's all that really needs to be said.THESE GUYS SHOULD BE HUGE!!!!!

Best Pop-Rock Album in Years
Amazing. Free Energy has done it again. After an incredibly strong debut, they now follow it up wth an even more self-assured, pitch-perfect collection of classic pop-rock songs. There's not a clunker among them. Their first single, "Electric Fever" is just so darn catchy, I can't get it out of my head. "Hangin'" is a pop classic. "Girls Want Rock" sounds like a rockin' old friend that makes you feel so good. Even the ballad plays like a classic. It's all good. No, it's all great!

Power Pop Paradise
Heard a track on a sampler on my Classic Rock magazine and liked it so I bought the album. What a great, gutsy, tuneful record that really rocks out over its 10 tracks. Absolutely no filler. The sound quality, mix and production could not be bettered. Play it in the car on a sunny day and the cd will stay on Repeat. Buy it with confidence if you like melodic rock with a dash of punk.

Great Album
I really like the sound of this album. Free Energy knows how to write catchy songs with up-beat tempos. They also switch things up with every song while still keeping their overall feel and natural sound. The singer's voice is very different. It may take a while to get used to because of the nasality but once you listen to it enough, you learn to really enjoy and appreciate it. Hopefully a new release soon!

Take Me Back to the 70's Man....
After hearing 'snippets' of songs from this album (a 70's term), I decided to purchase it immediately as an MP3 file (00's term). Glad I did...simply because this wasn't available on 8-Track (a 70's technology). When I listen to FREE ENERGY's recent effort, it places me in a time-machine complete with pet-rocks, disco, long-hair, killer song-hooks and the ability to remember a time when we could all 'loosen up a little'. Thank goodness for "Love Sign". A good collection of tunes that you can enjoy without the "volume-decreases....click...volume increases" annoyance of an 8-track tripping to the next track.

Excellent Sophomore Release
For fans of 70's hip shaking rock 'n roll (think Thin Lizzy with a cow bell), Free Energy strut on familiar territory. Free Energy uses hooks on the same level as some of the great classic rock bands and the results are both fresh and fun. Whether your standing by a keg at the lake party or cruising around with the T-Tops off your Camaro this is your soundtrack.

A blast from the past!!!
For Free Energy the clocks are still 1979 which is not a bad thing!!! For their second album, Free Energy once again brings the Thin Lizzy guitars along and the Cow Bell for an unforgettable joy ride!! The perfect summer time album for any age group and a most for any classic rock fan. I know I love to crank up some Free Energy in my 2002 firebird convertible with the top down any day!!!

2-chord AC/DC power cowbell pop; AM radio ready
2nd album from Philadelphia band--2-chord AC/DC power cowbell pop. Hand-clapping chorus `n' rhythm songs that could find a home on any 70s/80s AM radio station. There's an undeniable commercial fun appeal and a comfortable head-nodding accessibility to these songs; but unlike their debut "Stuck On Nothing" (which I thought was a great album, see my review), the slick production here lends a feel that's more generically derivative with less of an immediate, good-time vibe. The music will definitely stir up memories of another era and deliver a nostalgic smile or two, but it's a surface-only grin that will probably fade quickly. It's just one more guilty pleasure in a world already saturated with mediocrity. Recalls bands like the Cars, the Knack, Sweet, Thin Lizzy, Loverboy, Smash Fashion, the Eagles, Paul Simon, Pat Benetar. "Love Sign" is fun & predictable & imitative & vacuous with a pleasant peasant feel. It's like candy that leaves a bad taste in your mouth--but it's still candy.
