These things really work
The promise: an electronic device that you can turn on to keep mosquitos away. The electronic part is a partial truth, as the electricity is just used as a source of heat, but it's an effective way of keeping mosquitos away. Thermacell devices, electronic or not, work by slowly releasing allethrin, an insect repellent. Low heat is used to make the repellent go into the air. Allethrin is mostly harmless to humans and pets, though it's recommended that you not ingest the repellent or use it near food. There is nearly no smell; the repellent itself is odorless, but the device sometimes releases a bit of smoke. The older fuel-based ones, which either use butane fuel or sit on top of an isobutane fuel canister, use felt mats to hold the repellent; you have to replace the mat after four hours of use. The electronic ones instead use a cartridge loaded with liquid repellent and a wick that slowly releases it; it can provide up to 40 hours of use from a single cartridge. The electric power is simply used to provide heat. Thermacell makes two versions of the electronic device. The more basic one has 6 hours of battery life. This is the upgraded one with a battery that lasts 9 hours, which is enough to keep the device powered for most day events. If you need more run time you can connect it to a USB power bank, or to an AC-powered charger if you're in a location where outlets are available. The cartridges are good for 12 or 40 hours of operation; the bigger ones will cover an entire weekend of camping if you connect it to a large enough power bank to keep it running that long. You have to supply your own charger; the Thermacell does not include one. The company says it will keep a 20 foot area clear. That's true on a reasonably calm day. Winds will carry the repellent away so the effective range is smaller on a windy day. If the winds are REALLY high you won't need to run it because the mosquitos won't be flying. Make sure not to lose or throw away the cap of the repellent cartridge unless you are certain you will use up the rest of its capacity in the current use session. You need to put it back on before you store the cartridge. I recommend keeping the cartridges, new or partially used, in a Zip-Loc bag to make sure you don't end up getting the repellent on other things; the cap is supposed to be enough, but belt and suspenders :)

It really works
This thing actually does keep the mosquitoes away My wife and I both react to bites. When using this product properly we donโt get bitten. We have one each for the front and back porches, and another for the ranch. Refills are a little costly but are worth every penny.

Keeps the bugs at bay.
A great option to calming the bugs when camping. Even with a light breeze, this bug repellent worked to keep the bugs away. Even flies and ants left the picnic table alone. It does need recharging every 8 hours, so if you head to the beach in the middle of the day, be sure to charge it so it lasts till bed time and keeps the mosquitoes at bay.

The best!
I swear by Thermacell. Love the rechargeable aspect of this one. Also, this one uses a liquid instead of the the pads. When using the pad type thermacell once you open the pad it cannot be reused. With this liquid type, you can use it for 10 minutes and then turn it off saving the bug juice for later use. This one has worked best for me. Iโm only buying this new one to replace one Iโve had for 10 years after accidentally setting it underwater in the creek for a few hours.

Outrageously Ineffective
Most expensive and most ineffective product i have ever used to repel mosquitos. After spending almost $100, my yard attracted more mosquitos than ever before. I purchased a $5 fogger spray and over the past 2 weeks mosquitos have miraculously and thankfully disappeared. Big scam in my opinion, but apparently many are buying it. Mine was returned after 2 weeks mostly because of the companies claims of how well it works and finally because of the outrageous price for the liquid repellent that i unbelievable saw mosquitos licking the residual liquid puddles. Amazing!

IT WORKS
Charge it like a phone after using it and youre golden. After a weekend of being outside for 3 days, and using it when the mosquitos come out, I have gotten one ONE bite, from the normal 10 or so EACH NIGHT. I am finally able to not need to worry about getting eatin alive. Lowes hardware carries the 12 hour refills which is awesome. I do wish the battery charged faster, but if you charge it after use (like a phone), its not a worry. This will be carried with me anytime im going to be outside when the mosquitoes come out!!

Barely effective against socal ankle bitters.
It is semi effective at beat against the socal ankle bitters. It was better last year. But this year, I think the mosquitos got used to it. I literally see them fly through the vapors! Area of coverage is about one human if you are holding it in your hand and there is no wind. Otherwise, you get bit.

Works Well
I like the design. Its well made and is perfect for placing on a small table since it doesn't tip over easily. Charges fast and lets you know when the repellant becomes effective after startup. Nice tech.

Misleading info
It states that a 12 hour refill is included but unfortunately it wasnโt.

This is great, Mozzies and midgies totally gone. Keep the little cap thay screws onto the liquid cartridge as it wilo evaporate when not in use. Otherwise completely excellent, even when its windy.

Questionable
The product worked from the point of view no bites in the 2 hours sat outside but the capsule it came with had barely any liquid and looked like it had leaked and now NO REFILLS on Amazon and massively expensive refills off another site so be warned it works but Will be Expensive to Run if you can get refills.
