Great radio and a great price
I have had this radio for a couple of months now. I don't get the "hard to program/poor manual" comments. I had no problems programming it from the keypad. It works much the same as my much more expensive Yaesu. Within just a few minutes I had the menus down and was plugging in repeaters. I did end up getting the software and cable just to make it quicker and is probably a must for guys like me who have a long list of frequencies they use. I have never bought a radio that the software and cable come with the radio unless it was a dealer special. One thing the software does not do is automate the offset like other ham software. However it is very easy to transfer to and from the radio and does not require any "Vulcan death grip" of button pushing to put the radio into program mode. The radio is full quieting and performs amazingly well for the price. No I am not into repeaters 100 miles away but I can easily hit the repeaters on the other side of town with the supplied antenna. I am consistently getting good reports on voice clarity. The size is a little thicker and larger than say an Icon or Yaesu dual band hand held but it is still not overly large. The plastic case seems rugged and as impact resistant as any of the more expensive models.I highly recommend this radio. It is a great radio for the price range. Would I rather have a $350 tri band Icon? Sure but for those just starting out or even the seasoned Ham wanting a inexpensive hand held this can't be beat.

Wouxun KG-UV6D V2 handheld
I've been playing with the Chinese portables for some time now, and I'll have to admit that "playing " is absolutely the most appropriate term - while the Baofengs and Quanshengs certainly are inexpensive "starter" radios for new hams, and cheap enough that you can afford to have three or four in a "bug-out bag", there was no question that they were not going to be replacing my first-line portable (which I won't name here, because I didn't buy it through Amazon; as a matter of fact, when I did buy it, I'm not sure Amazon even existed, that's how old it is). I have become quite used to certain features common to all of the Chinese-branded radios (I won't say Chinese-manufactured, because many of the "old-line" radios that hams seem to prefer list mainland China as the country of origin), among them dual-monitor (NOT scan) and FM radio (let's face it, under normal circumstances, the ham bands in rural areas are usually pretty quiet). Two things I've missed in the low-tier products, however, were going to be absolutely necessary before I "parked" my old faithful and started wearing a replacement regularly: a working, adjustable squelch, and a rotary selector for frequencies. After trying a lot of offerings at local "Hamfests", I settled on the Wouxun: familiar profile, lots of familiar controls (some of them function-programmable), lots of accessories readily-available and reasonably priced. I've not been disappointed - the programming cable is a widely-used Prolific-chip USB-adapter-type, and there are at least three programs that do an adequate job of entering multiple frequencies/changing features, each with different strengths/weaknesses. The Wouxun KG-UV6D V2.2 software is where I started, but UV-6D Commander and Chirp also deserve mention - they all work well, though each leave settings that must be changed manually through the menu. The manual that comes with the radio is actually useful - something of a novelty with these inexpensive radios; if I didn't have a compact portable computer with the programming software installed and working, I could actually successfully make changes/additions "on the fly" by following instructions, which do work. "Old Faithful" is finally getting a rest, though I still tend to have both handy when I'm going to be far from civilization...

Beware, the radios you receive cannot be programmed.
I bought 3 of these radios around June 25, 2013 and I really liked them. I wanted to get 2 additional radios, one of them for a gift. When the 2 new radios arrived, they were marked as Wouxun KG-UV6D V2. The V2 is significant here. It is apparently now the version of these radios that Amazon is shipping. The V2 version has certain "upgrades" that comply with new FCC regulations. Ok, I am all for buying radios that are compliant with FCC regulations. The problem is that the only programming software that will work with these radios is the new "V2" programming software. And, that is only available from dealers. The programming software was NOT included with the radios and there is no place anywhere I can find to download it. I really liked these radios when I received the first ones. But the newer V2 radios are simply "bricks". They are worthless, so DO NOT waste your money. You will not be able to program them.

Daily Security Usage for 5.5 years still working great.
August 2012 - December 8 2018I own two of these. I alternate back and forth when the battery is near dead.6 Years Later Battery still lasts about 3 days between charging.-My buttons are starting to show a little wear from scuffing on my coat but still readable.-The little rubber tip on one of my antennae came off somewhere but nothing major.-Still a great functioning radio on my companies antiquated Analog Repeaters.-Programming is still pretty easy with free software KG-UV6 Commander.-Programming cable I got with radio still works with Windows10.-Programming with keypad is doable but time consuming and a bit of a "P.I.T.A"-There was complaints back when I first bought this unit that it's flash memory has pretty limited number of write cycles before you can no longer modify it's programming. I have not experienced that issue yet.

Amateurfunk 2m 70MHz
Funkgerät soweit in Ordnung. Zum programmieren funktioniert entweder das Programierkabel oder Funkgerät nicht oder eben beides nicht. Im Moment sind unsere Techniker am Fehler suchen.
