Really happy with this
The used copy of this book that I received was in better-than-expected condition, and I've been enjoying reading it. It's not a dense, threatening tome like some gardening books are, and yet it's not wordy with little content either. Well-written, easy to read, easy to get to the specific information you need when you need it.

a must have for the gardener
This book is simply indispensable for gardeners. It shows good pictures of the possible problems and gives very good advise how to deal with it. It stresses the importance of good, healthy soil for all plants and how to achieve it. It provides different remedies everybody can use or make and has a nice appendix with resources. For me the book is very useful especially because it is based on organic practice. Can only recommend to read and use it.

Great for novice gardeners
Great in-depth detail on vegetable plants and garden pests. I had pests decimate my tomatoes last year and now I know what they were and how to keep them away.

lots of pictures, decent descriptions of problems. I think its helpful in some situations. however many problems seem to have only 'add compost next year', or 'choose resistant types of plant' as a solution. there are some suggestions for amending the garden to help now, or applying topical agents to kill bugs, so it is helpful to some degree.

Best description for vegetables and how to grow them.
I'm a new gardener and this book explains what the best growing conditions are for each vegetable from temperature to soil to light and water requirements. Other growing tips and techniques are given. Authors also explain what pests and diseases to look for. There is a section that shows pictures of problems related to temperature, light, water and soil with a description of the sympton, a diagnosis and solutions. Another section is an illustrated guide that helps the gardener identify plant problems and gives organic solutions. The last section is one of the most important in my opinion. This section tells a gardener how to manage temperature, soil, light and water for the best growing conditions. I learned how to rotate crops to prevent certain diseases, why some insects are beneficial and why mulching and sanitation are so important. This book is going to be my Gardening Bible!

Extremely Helpful Book
This book very clearly helps one to identify pest, disease and environmental problems with your plants. Great pictures and a good explanation as to what to do to correct the problem. There is also another book, "What's Wrong with my Vegetable Plant?" which is equally as good.

What's Wrong with This Vegetable Book?
I really wanted to like this book, and expected it to be a reference manual to which I would return over and over again. I was disappointed. There are some good points, and I'll start with those. The text is very well organized. It is easy to find the problem, and easy to research the individual plant. There are lots of nice photographs of both the plant as it is growing and the vegetable it produces. This is helpful in identifying plants. There are also good photographs of different plant ailments, so that the reader can compare what is wrong with this vegetable garden with the exact ailment and solution in the book. This is useful, particularly for the beginner gardener who may only have a rough idea of what they are seeking.I did find a lot of the written text repetitive, though. Some of the advice is in direct conflict to the methods which my dad taught me and which I have been using successfully -- and organically -- for nearly 30 years. The authors also talk about 'polyculture.' This seems to just be a fancy name for 'companion planting,' and there are other (and in my opinion more informative) books on the market on this subject than the book that I'm reviewing. The authors also repeat the same advice as to where different plants should be grown. They may just be being very conscientious when it comes to crop rotation, but to me, they seemed to be over-complicating things. The book probably has it's place on some bookshelves, but sadly mine is not one of them. I would recommend Louise Riotte's book _Carrots love Tomatoes & Roses Love Garlic_ (ISBN 1580178294) over this title any day.

An excellent resource for the Canadian garden. The photos are clear, the information very well organized and the suggestions of what to do about each infestation are extremely helpful. I am recommending it to all my gardening friends as well as to our local library.

It's a slim volume, and I can't help but thinking that with enough searching I'd find this and much more online. But it's decently written and illustrated. Go paper.
