Hoover PowerScrub XL Pet Carpet Cleaner Machine for Carpet and Upholstery

Like many others I read lots of reviews for this Hoover PowerScrub. I really needed and wanted one but was hesitant based on some of the negative reviews. I took a leap of faith and made the purchase during Prime days, and I am VERY HAPPY WITH MY PURCHASE. Minor assembly and the ease of use were incredible. I read through the paperwork before beginning, but I believe the pieces are self-explanatory as to how to use and where they go. I saw some things that were noted in other reviews such as the clean water container not looking like it seats. Mine sits the same way as their picture, but it is not an issue - the seating is in the connection at the bottom of the container where the water goes through. Others spoke of leaks when the unit was not in use. I put a flat shoe tray under the cleaner when I stopped to refill clean water or dump dirty water and there was no leaking. As for storing, the paperwork clearly states to remove any liquid to avoid leaking. I would think this would be common sense. Based on the instructions, I did a thorough cleaning of my unit after use leaving pieces apart to dry before storing. I still had some cleaning solution left in the container, so I removed it from the unit and laid it down on its side so the liquid would not be able to leak. As for performance, I was very pleased with the results. I am living in a home that is 80% carpet that was put down new, over 50 years ago. I cannot afford to replace the carpet, so I really hoped to rejuvenate it with a thorough cleaning. I was so pleased to see the difference from where I cleaned compared to what had only been vacuumed in preparation. In the attached pic, I think it obvious where I have made one swipe down the hall. Worn foot paths were no longer mashed down making the carpet look the same all across the area. I didn't find the unit to be too heavy or too loud as others noted in reviews. It's a machine containing volumes of liquid - what do you expect? I have not used the attachment hose and pet or upholstery tools yet, but I did familiarize myself with where and how they connect. I plan to try them out during my next use. I felt the tanks were sufficient in size for the clean water and dirty water, allowing me to clean a large area before having to refill or dump. I'm really happy with my purchase and hope that it continues to do well in the future!

Delivery was quick with no damage to the box and product. I carefully assembled the product: A couple issues: 1. Product did not dipense fluid. I had to disassemble the handle, re-do it. I very carefully aligned the internal components and put it back together. No big deal. Then it dispensed fine. 2. The fresh water tank spring loaded valve in middle bottom leaked significantly. Not good. I turned the tank upside down, used a small probe to depress the spring valve and sprayed some silicon lubricant in the valve, then opened and closed quickly several times by pushing it in and out; thereafter, it stopped leaking. Frankly it was aggravating to have to fool with a simple spring valve-leaks are never fun. I should mention I had a Bissell for 15 years prior which I thought was quite good having nothing else to compare it to. Then I used the Hoover doing a run of steps, 3 other rooms, and a hall runner. I am pleased with the performance. It has impressive suction and left the carpet barely wet but quite clean. It is FAR superior to the Bissell. My carpet looks fanastic. The sound of the motor and suction is akin to a small jet engine but not overly loud. It is definetly quieter than the Bissell. The hand tools dispense fluid well, accurately, and collect the dirty fluid quite well-better than Bissell. The Hoover sips the soap solution and offers great length of use between dumping and fresh water replenishment. Again FAR superior to Bissell. The dirty water tank is also much easier to dump and thoroughly clean than Bissell.

I looked at a number of carpet cleaner videos and read a lot of reviews and I must say it was difficult determining which carpet cleaner was the right one to purchase. We previously owned a 25+ year old Hoover carpet cleaner that we used quite a bit and even had lent it to other family members multiple times, so we already trusted the Hoover brand. When our cleaner recently started leaking, I figured it was time to get a new model. And wow - are we glad we purchased this one! This model was carefully thought out and designed and it's made to be very user friendly. We found one of the most important things you can do to extend the service life of a carpet cleaner is to keep it clean after each use. Cleaning our old cleaner was quite the project. However, this new model makes cleaning the unit unbelievably easy - not to mention how great it is at cleaning the carpet. I can't count how many times I've had to work on things around the house and muttered to myself that the designer must had never worked on their own product. This Hoover carpet cleaner is different and is made the way it should be - each part, from the suction tray in front, the cleaning solution container in the rear, to the drain tank and the easily detachable rotating brush rollers is a breeze to use and clean. Regarding the cleaning capabilities - the vacuum suction is fantastic and leaves the carpet almost dry. The five rotating brushes really deep clean the carpet. A testament to this unit's cleaning ability - we had a vomit stain left from our Aussie on light gray carpet that we could never get rid of completely. Even after multiple cleanings over the course of six months with scrub brushes and various cleaners it a shadow of the stain was still visible. After making two passes with the Hoover main unit and then using the handheld rubber nub brush, the stain was gone! Stains were no match for this Hoover carpet cleaner. We used the Hoover pet cleaning solution believing the cleaning solution and carpet cleaner were designed with each other in mind. This carpet cleaner is the one to get if you are serious about getting your carpet clean and getting the tough stains out for good! Thank you, Hoover, for manufacturing and designing such a good cleaning and well-engineered carpet cleaner!

This machine is all that and a bag of chips! First, it came exactly as expected, not missing anything. It did not leak. It works as described and then some! This thing cleaned a 22 year old carpet, in a bedroom, that had seen 2 kids (with several of their friends) and several cats and dogs, and had it looking almost new! Mind you, I’ve had several carpet scrubbers in the past and have scrubbed that carpet several times. The last time I scrubbed it was with a Kirby scrubber (waaay overpriced). When this machine was delivered, I went to town. When I scrubbed that carpet, I was shocked! The water was black. This is a low pile, berber carpet. Yet, even after previously scrubbed not long ago, this monster of a machine pulled so much up out of it that the water was black! I used it on all of my area rugs (again, just scrubbed with the crapper Kirby), and the water was black!! It’s truly an amazing machine. It is so easy to use. The 2 tanks are wonderful, making it less likely to have to refill and dump often. It is a breeze to clean, as the piece in front that sucks the filth just pulls up and off, making it so easy to rinse out when using it. The hose for the attachments is so easy to clip on and use. It comes with two different attachments. One is a rubber bristled brush with several rows of bristles, and the other is the typical scrubber brush. They work great too, cleaning the arms on light beige couches. The cord is so long, making it so easy to do a large room without having to worry about an extension cord or unplugging and replugging. Attachments are in a bag with a hook on it that you can hang on the machine itself. Also included is a rubber mat, so that it doesn’t leak on your floor when not in use. It even came with a little bottle of carpet cleaner. I am, admittedly, a clean freak, and I’ve been through a lot of scrubbers. None has even compared to this one. I highly recommend this scrubber! It’s a beast! I can’t say anything about the longevity yet. I hope I don’t have to come back and edit this. It’s truly the best carpet scrubber I’ve ever owned. You can stop looking now and just buy this one!

I bought this in late February 2024 and it didn't even make it to December of the same year. I bought it to replace my Bissel PowerScrub, which finally bit the dust after five years of cleaning up after two clumsy kids, a dog, and a cat. The Bissel was an absolute beast, but the water tanks were tiny, so I wanted something that wouldn't have me trekking back and forth several times per room to switch out the water. This carpet steamer does have nice, big water tanks. That's about all it has. Right away, I noticed that it didn't suck water back up quite as well as my old Bissel. Oh well, a couple extra passes and a little longer with the windows open never killed anyone. Then the hose stopped working. I was midway through cleaning my couch and the hose just... quit. There was no damage to the hose itself, it wasn't clogged, the socket where you plug the hose in looked normal, it was fitted snugly. It just didn't want to suck or spray water anymore. Then it stopped working as well on the carpets. I kept it clean, always made sure the tanks were emptied and cleaned out after every use. Kept it on its little rubber mat so it wouldn't make a mess when it inevitably peed all over the place after I put it away. Dried the mat as soon as it was done, too. I did everything you're supposed to to take care of this darn machine. Still, it slowly took up less and less water until one day, it wasn't taking up any water at all. I had to take every towel I owned plus some old shirts to soak up the moisture from my son's carpet before taking this stupid machine straight to the garbage. It's almost tax return time. This year, I've decided I don't much mind dealing with tiny water tanks, so long as the machine does what it's supposed to.

I used my new Hoover PowerScrub XL Pet Carpet Steam Cleaner on the 1970's era orange shag wall-to-wall carpets in my "new" house last night. I vacuumed first, as directed using my Dyson. The Hoover PowerScrub XL Pet sucked up lots of very dirty water into the dirty water reservoir and that was quite satisfying to see. The rugs do look softer and better than they did before the work-out. The stains (probably food ?/I hope food...) near the television in the living room are all gone. It still has a bit of 'eau de cat pee', but we shall sniff after it dries. I am wondering how many times I would have to run the cleaner for the water to come in clear. I bought it to replace a similar Hoover that I bought 20 years ago that recently shorted out when I first started this cleaning project. This new PowerScrub is easier to clean, except for the front part that fits over the rotating brushes. It doesn't come off, like the previous model's did, so you can't just run the hose through it to rinse it out, but must scape any rug fibers out with this handy-dandy included "tool" that I almost tossed out because I thought it was some kind of packing material. The parts of the old Hoover (clean and dirty water receptacles, that removable front brush cover) snapped in with a simple latch to hold them in the machine. The parts of the new Hoover just sit there, no latch, except for the brush cover that isn't removable at all. They don't really even snap in. It feels sort of not secure to me, but they didn't fall out or off the machine, even when I had to carry the machine down the stairs to work on the stair treads and risers. It came with enough soap (cleaning fluid) for one full use. The included fluid (one small bottle) is unscented and not made for removing pet odors, which I thought strange for a machine that has "Pet" in its title. I had another bottle of Hoover fluid for pet odor removal (enzyme stuff) still around the house and a bottle of the Hoover Oxy steam cleaning machine fluid: I used them both and went over the whole house twice, including the carpeted inside bi-level weird 70s entry stairs. The 'eau de' scent is gone and the rugs are completely dry as of this morning. There are places where my carpets are able to be peeled back without being a tripping hazard, so I checked under those areas and the pad and bottom of the rugs are 100% dry. I really like the stair cleaning tool, but the machine itself is heavy for me and using it is definitely an aerobic workout! On my wish list is a self-propelled Hoover Steam Cleaner. The rugs dried more quickly than they did with the previous machine. It uses less water, but does do a good job. I would recommend wearing ear protectors. I wore ear protectors while I used it, so didn't hear much noise. I don't want to lose my hearing when I get older, so I wear ear protectors often anyway for things like running the blender, lawn mower, vacuum. Assembly was a snap and luckily self-explanatory: The directions were in a microscopic font and left out how to add the soap fluid. The fluid was added in cap-fulls to the clean water reservoir of my previous Hoover, but this one has a separate fluid (soap) container. I was confused about how much liquid Hoover soap fluid to add to the dispenser. I searched the included directions, the Hoover website, YouTube instructional vids, Google AI... nothing. I finally just added the complete contents of the included liquid soap that came with the new machine to the dispenser and that seemed to work just fine. The machine mixes the liquid Hoover soap from the dispenser with the clean water to dispense the proper amount on the rugs as you pull the trigger and push the machine forward. Pulling the machine backwards removes the water, dirt, and soap from your carpet. Hoover recommends running a soapless rinse of clean water run over your carpets after you use the machine. Kind of a pain, but the results are lovely for those of us who can't afford the brand new hardwood floors we would actually like.

I bought this awful Bissel last time, and it was hard to clean the machine, didn't clean well, and died after a dozen uses. This Hoover is a completely different story. Very well made, works like a champ, and super easy to clean. It holds a lot of water, cleaning fluid container is large, and is easy to use. I've cleaned carpets, rugs, and seats with it. It is awesome.

This replaces a positively dire Hoover Powerdash I bought last year that was extremely difficult to clean. On the Powerscrub XL, it's easy to remove the wastewater tank and clean it out. The nozzle cover also pops off easily so that it can be cleaned. Dripping dirty water from the nozzle after it's turned off also doesn't seem to be the problem that it was with the Powerdash. The larger clean water and wastewater tanks are a big improvement over the Powerdash, along with the wider brushes (10 or 11 inches vs. 7-8 inches). But--important to note, the Powerscrub with full clean water tank weighs around 25 pounds, and the machine isn't as maneuverable as the lighter Powerdash. I have to plot the cleaning path more carefully than I did with the lighter Powerdash. I'm cleaning, in sections, a pet-grimy room carpet and it's doing a good job. The build quality seems decent, and I hope it'll be reliable and last a few years.

The multi directional brushes make the difference when cleaning short pile carpet. Counter intuitive. For better cleaning of carpet. More weight would help the cleaning. Just go slow and it gets out most dirt.

La primera vez que la usé le sacó lodo a la alfombra, a pesar de que usamos una buena aspiradora, la diferencia con esta lavadora es notable en las fibras de la alfombra. En la foto se puede ver la comparación, al lado derecho sólo le di una pasada. Es un poco pesada por la cantidad de agua que maneja, pero su funcionamiento es muy sencillo, el peso no hace difícil su manejo gracias a las buenas llantas y tiene un alto poder de succión. Es muy buena también para la limpieza de muebles gracias a los aditamentos. La usamos para lavar toda la alfombra del segundo piso y la de la sala, está última blanca, quedó muy bonita, también lavamos todos los sillones. La recomendamos ampliamente.
