Always and Forever, Lara Jean (To All the Boys I've Loved Before)

In ‘Always and Forever, Lara Jean’ we follow the gang as they embark on new chapters in their lives - Dr. Covey’s decision to remarry and Lara Jean and Peter’s decisions on colleges. The latter caused quite the stir, because everyone including myself were wondering if Lara Jean would follow her sister Margot’s example and her late mother’s advice by breaking things off with Peter before heading off to college. Other than this important decision, there’s a lot that transpired in this book. There were lots of fun times, especially with regard to the senior year festivities and Dr. Covey’s wedding, but there were also a few bumps along the road and a very tragic incident that took place. Although a very sad incident, I admired and felt an abundance of warmth by the manner in which Lara Jean dealt with this matter. Above all, these characters have permanently woven their way into my heart and I enjoyed seeing their growth throughout this entire journey immensely. This series has been an absolute pleasure to read and I’ll miss every single character something fierce - from Peter and Lara Jean’s heartfelt and swoon-worthy romance, to Kitty’s smart mouth and witty comebacks, to Chris’ blasé and free-spirit attitude, to Stormi’s lust for life. Overall, ‘Always and Forever, Lara Jean’ is the perfect conclusion and ending to this amazingly written story and its infectious characters. After reading this book, I’m filled with such happiness, warmth and wistfulness. This series will forever be a favorite of mine and a series that I turn to when I’m in need of a pick-me-upper or a book that’s the epitome of young, innocent and all-consuming love. It’s so stinking cute that you can’t help but to be filled with an abundance of warmth, love, joy and nostalgia.

Reading the whole book series felt like flipping through a teenage girl scrapbook of her life—sweet, nostalgic, and full of little moments that mean everything to the person experiencing them, even if they don’t feel like major events to outsiders. The entire series has always been about the quiet, everyday moments in love and family rather than big, dramatic twists, and this final book stays true to that style. I found it funny how nothing really happens in terms of high-stakes drama, yet it still feels like everything is happening because of how it's written. It’s set up like a diary in a way, where we’re deeply immersed in Lara Jean’s thoughts, but sometimes I wished for a bit more conflict. There were no massive love triangles, no earth-shattering betrayals—just the natural uncertainties of senior year, college decisions, and a steady romance between Lara Jean and Peter. That’s not to say I didn’t enjoy it. I liked seeing how Lara Jean matured, and her relationship with Peter felt real in how they navigated their future together. It's a real coming of age book series. The college decision storyline was relatable, and I appreciated how Jenny Han showed the bittersweet feeling of growing up and leaving things behind. However, I personally prefer more tension and drama in my books, so at times, I wished for something to really shake things up. It’s a comforting, feel-good read—perfect for those who love soft, slice-of-life romance stories. But if you're looking for high-intensity drama, this book might leave you wanting more. It left me wanting more but because I think it would be a beautiful story to see the college years and even go into the early 20's of adulthood, they don't write adult books like YA book with the tone, pacing, and vocabulary so I am always left reading YA books about teenages and I'm not a teenager anymore, I'd love to read more books written like this but about young adults. But I got off topic. Overall, the final book is a great conclusion to a heartfelt series. I can only hope Jenny Han decides to revisit these characters in the future, because I’d absolutely read a sequel following Lara Jean into her twenties!

My 13 year old daughter loves this series! It was a great way to get her interested in reading again. She would read the book and then watch the series.

With a slight time jump to the end of Lara Jean's high school career, we get started in the conclusion of the trilogy. There's a lot going on in the Song/Covey household. What school will Lara Jean go to? Will their dad find lasting love? What is new in Margot's life in Scotland? Will Peter remain the charming and steadfast boyfriend we want him to be? No more love letters in this book but plenty of texts. I always get emotional during transitional periods, just like Lara Jean. My high school experience was very different from hers, but I very much empathized with the focus on rituals, proper good-byes, and mementos. It was nice to see closure with LJ's friends like Lucas, Chris, John Ambrose McLaren, and others. The home life was entertaining as well. I only have a little brother, but I understand parent remarriage very well. It's a lot for a kid to deal with, especially as sisterly dynamics change. The author did a great job weaving in Margot's shift to womanhood and her tension with the life she left behind. And finally, Peter. He really grew on me by the end of the first book and solidified his place in book boyfriend history here. From learning braids, to charming Kitty, and supporting Lara Jean's baking and costume hobbies. He really wants to please and be helpful--he can't help that he's popular! (Mean Girls) There are some realistic and dramatic problems and nearly every corner of middle class teen life is covered. The ending was incredibly fitting and sweet. Now I get to watch the movies!

I cried. This series is amazing because it's based off a realistic situation. When I was Lara Jean's age, I had to think about the same decisions. My mother told me not to date in High school and that if I did not to follow a boy to college. To go and do whatever I wanted to do. So If I had not taken my mother's advice I would have been in the same situation as LJ. The way she analyzes her decisions is exactly how any other young adult would. Because this story's plot/situation is real and not far fetched, it is even more endearing to our hearts. I love that we got to grow through LJ 's and Peter's relationship with them. The author has announced that this is LJ's last book but I would love to see kitty with a couple of her own books and maybe in Kitty's book we'd get to see in LJ and Peter last for a lifetime. I also loved the glimpses into Dan and Trina's love life. Also Margo's newest Beau was quite interesting. This is a series I'll probably revisit and re-read in a few years. It's just that good. :)

Actual rating 3.5 stars. This was such a cute book! It did however, feel like a slight departure from the previous two novels. Mainly because ‘To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before’ and ‘P.S. I Still Love You’ dealt with finding love, and the tone of ‘Always and Forever, Lara Jean’ was much more melancholy. Not only because it is the end of the trilogy, but also because Lara Jean is at the point in her life where she is leaving for college, her father is re-marrying, and so she is saying goodbye to her childhood, her home, her family. Given Lara Jeans, quiet nature and love of all things antique, change is hard for her – and thus we get a tale of how she deals with so much adjustment and growth out of a place where she felt safe and loved. It also gives a lot of hope about the future that these changes initiate. Lara Jean herself was still a cute naïve square with a homemakers flare. She kind of embodies everything I’m not. I related to the challenges she was facing with family, college, and her boyfriend Peter. But all the other girlie stuff left the book feeling a bit dry. I realised Lara Jean’s character hasn’t changed so much. I enjoyed how we didn’t get as much frou-frou (subjectively) as we did in the previous two books; and here dealing with upcoming nuptials, her nervous baking, and hand-making presents as farewell gifts to her friends… it got a little boring for me and dragged down the pace. I found Lara’s love interest Peter, lovingly adorable, but also annoying with his quiet internalised tantrums. I had to keep reminding myself that he is still a teenager. For some reason I didn’t connect as strongly with him in ‘Always and Forever, Lara Jean’ as I did in the previous books. Kitty, Lara Jeans younger sister was more mature here, but still had a few moments of her annoying and abrasive stubbornness – but it wouldn’t be Kitty if we didn’t have that. And I did not feel like throttling her at any given moment, so you really get a sense of how she is growing up. Plus the sister relationships and bonding of the Song girls was amazing to read. I’ve not had such a strong connection to family and identify from any other book that I’ve read so far. Han is a master at creating believable sister bonds and relaying a family unit. I shed a few tears in several parts, Han’s writing still manages to touch me where it matters, so even with the issues I had with the story, I can still resolutely say that I adore ‘Always and Forever, Lara Jean.’ It was a massive guessing game as to how this would all end. And I was still unsure even right up to the end, so I can’t say it was all that predictable. With Lara Jean constantly changing her mind and weighing up her options, I was never really sure in which direction she would go. And it’s clear she had no idea either – and that made for wonderful tension right up to the very end. Though not as strong as the first two novels, its tone is completely different, but I’d still recommend it. Plus fans of Han and Lara Jean will not be able to resist knowing what is in store for the middle Song girl in the future…

A beautiful conclusion to a story that became so dear to my heart. If you need a comfort read, this trilogy is it.

She’s in her senior year and big decisions await. After planning everything meticulously, she finds herself in a strange position of having to rethink all her plans. This is my third Jenny Han read. I loved book one. Book two was torture. I waited almost six months to finally pick this up. I watched the movie to the second book when it came out and I’ve been meaning to get to reading Always And Forever, Lara Jean, for some time now. The structure to this novel was the same as in the previous ones. I’ve grown to love Lara Jean, but I don’t want to read her stories unless I’m really desperate for some positivity and optimism in my life. There are very few hurdles here and perhaps, that’s exactly why this series is such a bundle of joy. It works for its audience. I can’t hate on Lara Jean because she’s adorable in lots of ways; she seems very proper in lots of others. Her chemistry with Peter was lovely. Their relationship made appearances in this novel, however, at times it felt like we were focusing a lot on Lara Jean’s family. Which, to be honest, since she was in her senior year and she was about to leave for college, was completely fine. I just would have personally liked more Peter appearances. Peter EVERYWHERE. Speaking of Peter, he had major developments here. We finally see him crack, in some ways. His family dynamics are explored and in typical Lara Jean fashion, she wanted to make it all okay. I understood Peter and the decisions he made concerning his family, sometimes wanting to rattle Lara Jean awake and tell her to lay off the poor boy for his choices LOL. Not everyone can have the picture-perfect family! Kitty was the CUTEST. I think she was the mastermind behind the entire orchestration of her family’s lives! Margot played a more crucial role in the story this time around. I understood what she felt and why she behaved the way she did. It’s difficult to leave your home and when you come back, find that everything’s changing. She was the most emancipated out of the siblings and it was truly fun to see how scandalous she seemed with her trivial relationship to her family. It seemed hilarious to me. I recommend this read to anyone who doesn’t mind getting sentimental over teenagers going through their senior years, Lara Jean stans and people who need some fluffy and cute reads in their lives.

I loved this series. I borrowed the first two books but I couldn’t get the third fast enough so I ended up buying it for myself. I was at first a little embarrassed because I considered myself to be too old to read teen fiction anymore but it is a book I think girls of all ages, even those Stormy age can enjoy (read the book and you’ll get it). It’s nostalgic for me and I would recommend this book to anyone but especially teenage girls because it’s comforting and teaches important lessons on what love should look like and it’s just full of inspiration and parts that made me giggle with delight at how romantic and sweet and corny they are.
