Great Chest Freezer Thermometer
Easy to use freezer thermometer . Know the freezer temperature with external display

Perfect!
All the features I wanted! Has accurate temp readings for inside and outside the freezer and has four loud beeps each minute when the temp exceeds my setting. I have six freezers and I bought one monitor to try it out… bought 5 more a couple weeks later !

Works great - but Magnets do NOT stay on
The actual unit works great - and I've tested it with an inside traditional thermometer. Would have given it (5) stars, BUT the magnets on the back came off the first day! Reason I picked this one was I really wanted to be able to stick this to the older stand up freezer I have in the garage so I can see the temp each time I get in and out of my car. Tried to hot glue gun them but since they are the size of a SMALL nail head (about the size of the end of a phone charger)- didn't have luck at that - I'm making it work with Velcro I put on.

Not perfect, but for the price pretty good
I got two of these, one to monitor a fridge and one a freezer. Some observations: -The interior and probe temperature are the same or very close when both the device and probe is in close proximity, so that's a good sign -When the probes of both units are put into the same area, they read very close or the same, so that's also good -There are complaints about the magnets not being strong enough. I'd say it's not that the magnets aren't strong enough, but rather the issue is the magnets are recessed behind a plastic ring and so the magnets don't directly contact the mounting surface. To fix this, I cut a rectangle out of a grippy material (like a disposable glove) and put it between the meter and the fridge surface. Stays put now. -The setpoints for the alarms must be based on Celsius because in Fahrenheit, the alarm setpoints are adjustable in increments of 1.8F. Weird, but for an alarm it's ok. Someone said you have to remove the battery to change a temperature that was set incorrectly but that's not true. I have changed the alarm temperature simply by going through the same steps in the instructions. -Some have complained about how complex it is to configure. I gave it to my 10 year old and he figured it out. I also don't believe it to be overly complex. -The beeper is not real loud, but it's sufficient. Maybe about like the volume of a countdown timer.

Not worth it
These are VERY not user friendly. I consider myself quite adept at setting up electronic devices. These are very difficult to set up. The instructions are written extremely poorly. You javelin to remove the batteries in order to reset a temp that you have set incorrectly. Not something I would buy again. Going to find something else.

Advertised correctly
Used this on 12 volt fridge because thermostat was misbehaving. Works well so we have some idea of what is going on and can adjust thermostat. Update--What is the opposite of returning an item to Amazon? Getting an item that works really well then buying it again.

Instructions for Setting the Alarm.
Most of the negative reviews are related to the challenge of setting the alarms on this tiny little device. My own confusion originally led me to rate it poorly however once you know how to program the unit, it's actually pretty useful. First of all, press and hold the alarm button. It will show you the current maximum temperature that it will accept. Which is approximately 39 degrees Fahrenheit and probably fine for the fridge. If you want to change that temperature hold the button on the back of the unit. The temperature will increase and eventually it will scroll all the way around to start at the lowest acceptable temperature. Now push the alarm button again and you will be setting the lowest tolerable temperature. If you push and release the alarm button it will toggle between being on and off. This is useful because when you use your refrigerator or freezer often the temperature will increase above your set point. After six years our refrigerator has been acting up, so this little cheap unit can be a lifesaver for the food in my refrigerator

Bit of self modification goes a long way.
I have brought many items on Amazon at varying costs from £ -to £££ and never left a review. So why for the first time for such a low value item. Its not the cost, its does it exceed expectations. We replaced a freezer in an unheated outside building and wanted a remote monitor in the kitchen to keep an eye on the temp as the old one had packed in and we new nothing about it till we needed something from it. I'm sure what I have done will fill the manufacturer with dread and in validate the warranty etc.. But its only a few quid so worth the risk. The probe comes with a 2m cable which was not long enough for my purposes so with the use of a soldering iron and some thin instrument wire I extended the lead to 10m. From what I can see so far it works perfectly. It will probably shorten the battery life form the manufacturers 1 year but other than that the temp still seems to be within manufacturers tolerance and checks out with a normal analogue freezer thermometer. The original probe cable is a bit thick and didn't allow the door seal to fully close leading to some local icing so again invalidating the manufacturer warranty I removed the outer protective sheath exposing the two thin insulated wires where they pass through the door and this has made for a better seal. PS The unit has everything you could want Good temperature range, Max - Min, Alarm and uses AAA Battery not silly button ones.
