Hello, our product has a non-slip texture on the top and back to make sure it won't slip when you use it. It can also be used normally without being fixed to the ground with a latch.

How much weight does it hold?

It easily held 400 pounds between myself, my wife and her wheelchair. It was plenty sturdy and my concern about the grip at the upper end was completely unfounded--- it never slid a centimeter from the top step.
