I've been struggling with the shorter gauge with the angled head for years. The trouble always was getting the gauge at exactly the right angle on the valve stem to read the pressure without bleeding out air. This is a major problem with bicycle tires, where a little bleed causes a big drop in pressure. The straight design of the Godeson gauge works far better. I can read the pressure on automobile tires without having to kneel down trying to seat the gauge at the correct angle. You can't come in straight with the Godeson gauge to check tires on your bike. This is where the reverse angle comes in. I rotate the bike tire to put the stem on top, and then bring the back-facing angle fitting of the gauge up from below, resting the heel of my and on the tire and using a finger on the end of the gauge to pull the it onto the stem. I don't have much air leakage this way. The disadvantage for automobile tires is that the calibration markings on the Godeson gauge are spaced at 2 psi intervals instead of 1 psi (see photo). With the longer barrel I didn't expect that. Also, compared to my air compressor and the old tire gauge, my Godeson gauge reads about 1-2 psi higher in the 30 psi range. I guess that it's too much to expect a wide pressure measurement range and accuracy at the low end. I'll continue using this gauge for it's convenience with automobile tires and its effectiveness for higher pressure tires like bicycle or the temporary space-saver spare tires for the car.
