Question 1

Will it scan 2-1/4 medium format mounted slides?  I don't think it has a 2-1/4 holder, but neither does an older scanner I have and it works fine.

It doesn't have a frame/holder for a mounted 2-1/4 format that I recall. However, there's no reason you couldn't just align it on the glass scanner bed. It does an excellent job of scanning mounted 35mm slides, so the fact that that the film is in a mount shouldn't make any difference.

Question 2

Can you place four 4x6 pictures on the scanner and have it scan to 4 image files automatically rather than doing them one at a time?

I disagree. You need to have .8-1.0" between each photo and 4-4x6 photos won't fit on the glass with those spaces. You can do 4 manually by selecting the scan area in "normal" mode, but that adds time. It's far easier to do 2 at a time and use "thumbnail" mode to automatically select the scan areas for each photo. It only takes 45-50 seconds to scan 2 at 600 dpi.

Will this scanner work with Mac OS 10.9?

You can download Silverfast SE software, which is compatible with the latest Mac OS (Monterey) and with earlier versions going back to OS 10.13 (High Sierra).  Software for earlier OS versions may exist, but you'll have to hunt for it.

Question 4

Can this scanner scan negatives in other sizes besides 35mm? I have many old negatives from my parents/grandparents (pre 1960) in a variety of sizes.

Yes, this scanner can scan negatives besides 35mm. It comes with a holder to neatly hold 35mm film, and it also comes with a holder to neatly hold 120 film (120 film is a medium format film, most common I'd say around the 1940s - 1960s, it's usually 6 cm wide, but the length of each individual shot can vary). It is *possible*, but not very easy, to scan other formats of film on here (such as 126 film or 110 film). The reason it's not very easy is because the scanner does not come with a designated holder to hold negatives of those sizes, so you basically just have to lay the negative on the glass, and try to get the edges of the negative to not curl up too much, and pray that you're laying it down exactly straight so that it doesn't scan at an angle (the film holders are designed so that the film is lined up exactly straight).
