Why do people get heartburn or acid indigestion?

Heartburn is caused when acids from your stomach are forced back up through the esophagus, where the delicate tissues may be compromised from the acid. This backup is called “acid reflux” and creates the familiar, fiery sensation we call heartburn.

Can't live without it!

As someone who suffers from terrible GERD even with prescription medicine, currently dexilant, - adding tagament before bed has really made a big difference. I also take it during the day if I am having an attack. Works right away.

Just okay.

My main objection to using Tagamet as an acid reducer is that it takes longer to kick in than those you chew. I do take acid reducers at bedtime on those occasions when I think I may have eaten something that will trigger acid reflux. Taking Tagamet ahead of the game is probably the best way to use the product. I still prefer chewable antacids however. They work just as well, but faster. One last note, Tagamet contains warfarin (Coumadin) a substance you may want to avoid, as it thins the blood. Ask your doctor if in doubt.
