Purchased this to lay on top of an area rug so my 6 month old has a larger play mat to roll around and crawl on on the floor. It's really soft, not super thick like a comforter, but thick enough to provide some cushion for him. I would still lay some pillows around him if he were sitting up and there was a chance that he could fall over - it's not meant to provide that kind of cushion. Perfect for what I was looking for.

New Edit: while my first mat came 2 inches smaller in L and W than advertised, I have since gotten 2 more (it was close enough and still a good mat). These other mats were perfect in everyway. Size was as advertised, the dots on the back have not come off at all in the wash, and they were even a bit thicker than the first one (which was already fine padding wise). I am thinking that first one was a fluke or maybe even a knock off that was accidently sent by amazon. To me this in now a 5 star mat for the playpens I have. I got the 71X59 size mat, and the tag with the packaging said 71X59 so I know I wasn't sent the wrong size. Unfortunately it did not come true to size, and doesn't fill my play yard like other buyers have shown theirs do in pictures. Mine is an inch short on all sides if I put the blanket in the middle, leaving an inch gap unpadded on all the sides of the play yard floor. I measured the yard and it's a true 71X59, but the blanket is measuring at more of a 69 X 57. I love it otherwise, mine came with padding unlike some of the complaints, just wish it fit true to size. Also to note, the little non-slip dots on the back will come off in the wash and leave themselves all over the washer and dryer, so be prepared for that.

so first off, definitely not what I would call a pad. It's more of a thick blanket with grippy material on the bottom. That's why 4 stars. HOWEVER, it is very soft and comfortable. Easily something that I'm ok with her napping on if absolutely necessary. Just glad our playpen came with a foam pad so we can use both.

Not as thick as I was expecting when I revived it, but gets the job done. Great size for the play pin. Easy to clean
