The best aquarium filter I’ve used
I’ve tried various aquarium filters over the years but have never really been impressed with any of them til now. I had read about how sponge filters were a good option for bettas as they provide a more gentle flow compared to HOB filters as well as helping to oxygenate the water. After watching a video explaining how to use sponge filters, I knew to get an air pump beforehand with an air stone, it was a bit tricky fitting the air stone inside the filter but I followed the directions on the tutorial video I had watched and figured it out. I’ve only used it in my betta’s tank for about a couple of weeks now but it’s already made such a difference with the water clarity, before it was always a little cloudy but now it’s crystal clear. I decided to clean out the sponge while siphoning the tank yesterday and so much gunk came out after the short amount of time of being the tank. I also love that not only do I no longer have to buy new filter cartridges every month, I probably won’t have to replace this sponge filter for a very long time (til it falls apart anyway). I never thought such a cheap and simple filter would outperform the larger, more expensive filters.

Okay quality. Good filtration.
Great product for the price. Filters my tanks well. It is a bit cheaply made tho, I had one them brake apart but I’m not mad for how cheap they are. Good size as well, easy to hide.

Great sponge filters
I use these as emergency filters, I added one to two of my tanks so I always have an emergency filter to put in an isolation or emergency tank, it’s been super helpful. They aren’t huge so they work to do the job and not take over the tank, I love sponge filters because I keep shrimp. It kept my last emergency tank alive since this time I had them on the go, I can’t say if right out of the package they would have helped, but if you give them time they do wonders.

Provides oxygen and holds beneficial bacteria
I got these for oxygenating my tank while using my canister filter or hob filter as it’s not uncommon to have impellers stop. They’re priced right and they provide oxygen as I’ve cut around the plastic in the interior to accommodate an airstone. I did have an impeller stop while gone and fish were fine but the sponge didn’t filter or clean anything. For oxygenating they work fine but beyond that I see no difference , except larger bubbles, than a airstone. I take the sponge out and squeeze but nothing comes out. The tank stays cloudy after a water change until the next day like if there was no filter. I believe it would harbor bacteria. Perhaps that’s the purpose as it certainly doesn’t clean anything.

Cleans water well in fish bowl for bettas..
Great for a fish bowl. I have them in my bettas tank. Circulates water but you need a bubbler. Help water not to get stagnant and smell! I have 2 happy, healthy bettas. The like the bubbles

Great little filters
These are always great sponge filters! Perfect for my fry tank! Also great to have to squeeze into new tanks to seed them with beneficial bacteria! Must have for if another tank cycle crashes! Highly recommend these

It's the perfect size for my 5 gallon betta aquarium.
Great size for my 5 gallon tank. Was confused when the packaging didn't say Aquaneat on it. Instead it said Xinyou, and it had a different model number, but they are the same size and seem to be decent quality. The sponge is much thinner and coarser than the Seapora one I had in the tank, but I'm not concerned since my betta fish doesn't produce much waste, and I routinely take out uneaten food and waste after feeding him. I rinsed everything in my tap water first, and I floated the new sponge in the aquarium for 3 or 4 days before setting it up, and am leaving the sponge from his old filter in the tank for at least the rest of the week to ensure I colonize the new smaller filter sponge with the good bacteria. I never bothered modifying this filter to fit an air stone, since the inner chamber was pretty narrow and I figured the bubbles would be pretty small coming out of the upper openings. I was right...the bubbles aren't too big or loud. It might be a bigger issue if I had the air flow turned up on full power. You can see in the picture where the gravel went around the base if the old sponge filter, now it looks like a crater around the new one lol. I'm happy that Angel has more space to swim around now.

Item not as depicted
It's not the exact same product as in the pictures. The sponge foam in the photo seems coarser and more porous, while the ones I got are much less so. Functionally, it works fine as a sponge filter, but the less coarse the sponge, the more often you have to clean it.
