Worked for my S&W 5906 Just Fine
I was on the fence about buying this grip for my stainless S&W 5906 9mm auto. However, after watching a few YouTube videos, my experience was easy and painless installing this. The fit is near perfect, but there is a very slight seam line at the back where the 2 halves join . . . pretty much unavoidable on a 2 piece grip. Nothing I am concerned about, but it is something that I wanted to point out. The grip does add girth, so will not work well for small hands. It is rubberized, but not mushy. I like it better than the factory plastic grip. Here is my experience installing the grip:1) Set up a workstation (I used my desk and an old towel folded into a soft work area)2) Gather tools (I needed a drift pin about 1/8", slotted screwdriver, and my gun cleaning kit)3) Remove the magazine and CLEAR the weapon!4) I decided to use this opportunity to thoroughly clean my 5906, so first I field stipped the slide and barrel - but you can install the grip without doing this step.5) Take your 1/8" pin punch and push out the pin near the bottom of the grip that holds it on. I did not have to beat a hammer on mine - just used my hand to apply direct pressure and the pin slid out. You may need a small plastic or brass hammer if the pin refuses to come out.6) This step was the only tricky part - I used a slotted screwdriver to pry between the base of the plastic grip and the frame of the pistol. Be gentle and pry toward the back of the gun until the grip pops loose. Next, spread the front edges of the grip gently and pull DOWN and BACK. The grip will come off the gun and the mainspring retainer and spring may/may not fall out at the same time.7) Clean the gun completely at this time in preparation for the new grip.8) Install the Hogue mainspring retainer. It is pretty easy - just follow the included instructions paying close attention to the orientation of the retainer in the gun. YouTube can help here if needed. Hogue has a video.9) Insert the removed pin back into the gun to keep the new Hogue retainer in place. Tap with a small hammer if needed. I used the handle of my plastic screwdriver. Make sure the pin is seated EVENLY in the gun.10) Slide on ONE grip piece at a time. I recommend watching the YouTube videos online to help as needed. Be sure that the 2 tabs on each half of the new grip engage the frame of the gun or you will have issues.11) Slide on the other grip half - more pressure may be needed as you don't have as much play with the 2nd half.12) Align everything as needed. This is your time to push and adjust before putting in the 2 included grip screws.13) After you are happy with the alignment - install the 2 included grip screws. Be aware that there will be a SMALL gap near the bottom before the screws are installed, but this will close up after putting in the screws. If you have a big gap - you probably did not index the grip tabs correctly on the frame.14) Reassemble if you field stripped - DONE!It took me about 30 minutes to do a complete cleaning and install the new grip.

Incredibly easy to install... Just watch the video on YouTube!
I have been using various Hogue grips on my handguns for the past 30 years, or so. I began using Pachmyr, but quickly discovered how superior the Hogue grip is.I have them on both revolvers, as well as autos. Never a problem, supremely comfortable, and easy to install.I was initially hesitant, when I heard that these were "probably the hardest of all Hogue grips to install", but was confident after watching the full video that it would be a cakewalk.I spent about 11 minutes watching the video, but the actual installation took less than five minutes! It was amazingly easy. On top of that, the OEM grip on my S&W 4046 is notoriously hard to remove, but mine came off in seconds! The grip is a quality piece, made of some sort of hard plastic composite on the inside, covered with a thick, cushiony rubber. It's quite grippy (is that a word?), and the handgun feels very secure in my hand.I would only caution others that I have medium to large men's hands... and these are thick grips. If your hands run a bit smaller you may not feel that this particular grip is right for you. I personally feel that the thickness is not a deficit. It makes the gun fill your palm, and (to me, at least) it feels very, very secure.Given the thickness and density of the rubber I have to believe that this grip will not disappoint when you head to the gun range. A quality grip should, in theory, make a marked improvement to your shooting accuracy. We shall see.

Hogue grips for S&W model 5904
After a lot of searching and being told by many that you could not get Hogue soft rubber grips to fit the S&W model 5904 (not for sure why people thought that) I finally found them here at Amazon. As you can imagine I was some what skeptical if they would be the correct ones. After getting them not only where they the right ones but they fit and look awesome. I also heard that they were hard to put on and that is some what true, not the hardest thing I have ever done with a gun but it does take some time. However this is because of S&W setup not Hogues grips. I love the feel of them and the price was awesome.I highly recommend these to anyone looking to replace the plastic handles. I will have to say that I am partial to the Hogue grips to anyone who is interested in a nice feeling grip.

The best price I could find was about $50 plus shipping ...
I bought these Sunday at 1:30 in the morning and they arrived by Wednesday. The best price I could find was about $50 plus shipping and handling until I stumbled onto Amazon. I was a bit apprehensive but I had these installed in 5 minutes flat. I popped the plastic lug out with a hex key and a hammer. It was not a problem. I struggled with the grips for a second then when I just slid them like the enclosed guide it came right off. Everything was a cinch and I have zero gaps. The grip feels so much better, and looks better as well. It's a slight bit larger but definitely manageable. I don't have ape hands or anything I'm a pretty small guy with an average hand size. No complaints two thumbs up.

Perfect
Perfect fit, great upgrade from those crappy plastic grips, and removes the fatal flaw if you drop your weapon. (If the factor plastic breaks, it renders your hammer useless. These replace the fatally flawed piece with metal)

Useless product as sent/hogue saved the day
Only received 1 grip screw, the product is useless without 2 screwsUpdate: After contacting the seller and having them argue with me about doing anything about the issue, I decided to contact hogue directly. They replaced the whole product, and I received it unopened this time! Thanks hogue! Classy save!I have large hands and the grip feels like a huge upgrade over the stock plastic which feels thin and slick in my hand. The new one feels tacky and easy to control. I've had friends shoot my 5906 and the ones with smaller hands tend to have trouble reaching the safety with their thumb.

Beats the Factory Grips by a Mile
Because of the large size of the grip on this model pistol, Hogue couldn't provide the standard finger groove grip. If they did, only a gorilla could hold the weapon. So, we have to settle for this arrangement which, all in all, is not bad at all. Whereas the factory grips are two, hard plastic panels, these are a wrap around that replaces the panels and covers the weapon's backstrap, all with comfortably yielding, gripy rubber. As this weapon is a bit large in my hand, the slight adhesion (grippy but not tacky) gives me a much better hold on the weapon and allows me to fire it easily. Installation is easy, even for the mechanically challenged. The only hard part is driving out a pin set in the butt. This requires a punch and hammer, preferably of brass. As always with Hogue, the quality is excellent and it fits the gun as though they were made for each other. This product is highly recommended.

Fits perfectly, minor hassle to install
I had purchased a used S&W 5906. Though the gun was in decent shape, the grips were not. I found these Hogue grips on Amazon and figured I'd give them a try.The installation was basic: Remove two screws on either side of the old grips, gently pry up the old grips, remove the mainspring and retainer and pin. You may want to clean the gun at this point. Next, insert the new mainspring retainer and tap the mainspring pin into place. It's important that the pin is evenly spaced on both sides of the frame otherwise the grip will not seat properly. Once that's done, insert the new grips and and new screws.I am very pleased with the fit of the new grips. There are no gaps and it appears to be one solid piece once everything is put back together. The feel is slightly tacky with good texture. The SW5906 has a rather large grip, however, and if you have smaller hands it may push it just over the edge of comfort. No downsides really. These are basic black plastic grips. They won't win beauty contests but are inexpensive and quite functional.
