scratch/cat friendly fabric?

It seems pretty good for my cats. I don’t think the fabric itself would hold up very well to intense scratching, but because it’s a tightly woven microfiber like fabric my cats have not had much interest in scratching it. I would say cat friendly in that it isn’t very tempting for cats.

Can you add padding underneath the cushion cover to increase its comfort?

I added more padding to the back cushions. But later I took it out because it made them to hard. The seat cushions do soften up after a little while. But I'm not completely satisfied with the material now that I've had it a year. It gets snagged and it is pilling up. I'm pretty sure I can use a shaver to get rid of the pilling when it gets to bad.
