Can we use an 8 inch mattress for the top bed? The recommendation is 6 inches.

We used an 8" on the top and a 6" on the trundle. The trundle is a twin not a full. I made the mistake of buying 2 full size.

Can this be assembled with a regular screwdriver (wood slats) or do you need a power tool?

Either or will work! But be careful with power tool don't want.to strip it
