Great Long-Range Walkie-Talkies for Children…if You Also Have 500 Feet of String
We bought these long-range walkie-talkies for family camping trips so we could keep tabs on our children while giving everyone a little freedom to roam. As actual walkie-talkies, they work very well. The sound is clear, the range has been great for campground use, and they have held up nicely outdoors. The only flaw in our system is that apparently owning more than one walkie-talkie requires our children to know where more than one walkie-talkie is at any given time, which has proven to be an advanced skill. At least one usually disappears into a sleeping bag, backpack, or some mysterious location known only to them. So while the product itself works exactly as hoped, perfection may still depend on whether your children can remember where they last set things down.

Fun, nostalgic, and actually useful!
These walkie talkies are such a fun throwback! They honestly take me right back to the 90s, and my kids love them just as much as I did growing up. It’s been really nice seeing them play, use their imagination, and stay connected around the house and outside. They’re also surprisingly practical. I like having them as a simple way to communicate, and they could definitely come in handy in an emergency when phones aren’t an option. Great mix of fun and functionality definitely worth it!

Great radios
Quality gives off old style vibes, easy to use and switch channels, battery life is a little lower than what I'd rather, it's also pretty loud which helps, the flashlight on it is great, and it survived several accidental drops.

Works amazing and easy to use. My 5 yr old loves them. We use them around the house in a neighborhood. Fits in your hand.

Great for the Price
Purchased these radios for work to community with my coworkers. A four pack at this price point is unbeatable. It is of cheaper quality, but as long as you take care of it, it is a great product. Been using this radio approximately 30 hours a week for 2-3 weeks and still at full charge with Amazon Rechargeable battery’s.

Good value for the price, but transmit power claims appear to be inaccurate
These walkie talkies are a good value for the price. They are relatively easy to use once they are set up. I used these with Amazon Basics AAA 850 mAh NiMH rechargeable batteries , and the battery life was very good. You'll need an external charger, you can't recharge the batteries inside the walkie talkies. The voice sound quality is very good, I didn't have any problems with extraneous noise or distortion. The built-in flashlight is not very bright, but it's convenient if you need to read something. Note that these are reasonably well built, but not what I would call rugged. They are not weather sealed. If you need something for wet conditions or conditions where the walkie talkies will be banged around a bit, these are probably not the right choice (but you'll need to pay quite a bit more for more rugged units). If you are transporting these walkie talkies, you may want to remove the batteries while in transit. It's easy to accidentally press the power button to turn a unit on, running down the batteries unintentionally. There's no way to lock the power button. One big problem I found with the Amazon description of these walkie talkies is the use of the phrase "Long Range," and the claim of 2W maximum transmission power. This is somewhat misleading. The FCC allows up to 2W of transmit power on channels 1-7 and 15-22 (other channels are limited to 0.5W). The manufacturer's description on Amazon of these walkie talkies includes the claim "The maximum transmission power is limited to 0.5 watts or 2 watts depending on the channel." However, the manual states that the transmission power is less than or equal to 0.5W, apparently on any channel (see image of manual page). This indicates that on most channels, only 1/4 of the maximum transmit power is available on these devices. This wouldn't be a problem if the manufacturer didn't claim 2W transmission power and "Long Range." If you just need basic walkie talkies, these are a good value, but if you really need long range, you can find other (more expensive) devices that have much higher transmit power.

Work Well As Intercom
These are not my first set of small radio walkie talkies, so I have some experience with them and this help me set my expectations. Our needs were specific with these in that my wife had foot surgery and has regular need to assistance from me throughout the day and night. As this is a long recovery (3 months) I felt like we needed to replace our failed set of radios that had finally died with something similar. I chose these and we have been very pleased. She can easily get my attention before speaking with the call signal (sent by pressing the speak button twice rapidly) and then we communicate. We are both pleased with the clarity and volume for $20.00 radios. We also picked orange and black which is hard to lose...and the clip on the back goes on a pocket, belt, or collar quite easily. We have not used them between vehicles BUT we have used them between her being inside while I was outside and they worked well in spite of the fact that our house has foil faced insulation and virtually no radio signals go in or out through it. Distance on our property might be an issue if I were to go farther afield, but I am staying close during this time. When I leave for short trips we simply switch to cell phones. The only issue we face, as some have pointed out, is battery consumption. I do not really believe they are any worse than any of the other radios we have used. We turn them off when we are in the same room or if I am within earshot of her. Some days they are on constantly (until bed time) and we still get several days out of each set of 4 AAA batteries. Would it be nice if they had rechargeable battery packs? Sure, but at a $20.00 price point I do not see that happening. Once she is back on her feet later this summer I will take the batteries out of them, store them away in the office, until we have brief need of them again. They are great for two people matching switches and outlets to breakers on different floors for instance. If you want to go the rechargeable route for more constant use, definitely do so! But for us these are just for a while, and then they will go up on a shelf.

Unbelievable High-Quality and Distance Range. Wow!
I honestly didn’t expect to be this impressed. I grabbed these thinking they’d be fun for a bit… and we’ve been using them nonstop. The sound quality is clear and strong. No annoying static, no repeating yourself, no yelling back and forth. It just works, which feels rare these days. What really surprised me was the distance. We tested them around town and easily got about 1.5 miles in the city with buildings in the way. Then we took them up to the mountains and got over 3 miles without losing connection. I kept waiting for the signal to drop and it just… didn’t. The built-in flashlight is such a nice bonus. We use it way more than I thought we would, especially in the evenings or when the sun starts going down. It’s one of those little features that ends up being genuinely useful. But the best part? How much fun they are. I’ve been using these with my preteen and it’s turned into hours of screen-free time. Backyard adventures, checking in from different rooms, pretending we’re on “missions”… it brings back that simple, playful kind of fun and actually keeps their attention. They feel solid, not cheap or flimsy, and they’ve held up really well so far. If you’re on the fence, this is one of those purchases that feels worth it almost immediately. I’m genuinely glad I bought these.
