PetSafe Extreme Weather Pet Door, Medium | Triple Flap, Energy Efficient, Customisable Frame

Fantastic dog door. Easy enough to install, with a little basic DIY skill and the right tools (I fitted mine with the door still hanging, took around an hour). The triple flap is really efficient at keeping the wind and cold out. Our old flap would swing around in windy conditions, which would be noisy as well as cold. This one doesn't do that at all, even in the worst winter conditions. It's also very good at keeping the cold out and doesn't suffer from condensation, which is something we experienced with other flaps. One thing to be mindful of is that your pet will not be able to see through this flap as it's not transparent, and will need to use a bit more force to get through the door. We found this to actually be a good thing as it has forced our dog to take her time when going through, rather than sprinting through full speed! It may, though, mean it takes a little longer to train your pet to use the door.

Fed up of opening the door for our cats and making sure they are in when we go out, I decided I would get a cat flap. We live in a cold windy part of the country so I went for this expensive "weatherproof" one. I can't say much for how weatherproof it is as I fitted it today on a quiet autumn afternoon. It was simple to fit with the right tools. It took around an hour including sealing it with sealant. It fits well and the flaps sit true In the hole, they are adjustable but didn't need Adjusting for my door. It would be sensible to tighten the screws gently and make sure they aren't too tight, or you end up pulling the frame out of shape, which will mean the flaps don't fit properly. One of my cats has taken to it easily, baring in mind he's never seen a cat flap before. The other one is an idiot but will get it eventually. I suggest sealing it well on both sides with an adhesive sealant rather than bathroom silicone. Also consider making sure that your door keys are kept away from the door for security. I have the small but it would be possible to stick an arm thru the flap and steal door keys. I'll update the review with how weatherproof once we have some bad weather! So far I'd recommend this flap it seems to be of good quality and I can see how it would help the keep the cold and draft out, in comparison to a standard single flap. EXTREME WEATHER UPDATE: This cat flap is not extreme weather proof! We are in the middle of a small storm with 30-40mph gusts of wind. The flap is opening by itself and it is very breezy in my kitchen! Probably still better than a regular single door flap but it's not as great as the packaging would make you believe.

Installed today into a door which was made from sheet metal and the usual foam insulation. Used a Worx Wx667.1 Sonicrafter Multi Tool that cost me £39.99 and had it done in an hour. Quite simple but you need a steady hand trying to door it whilst the door is still hung (ideally you take the door off but the hinges are broken). The flap is great, just what I wanted with that bit of extra weather protection and looks like it will keep in the heat as best I could hope for (it is a flap over an exposed hole after all!). It has the 3 flaps inc the inner weather shield and so far with it being -2c outside is doing an ok job. Only time will tell if the flaps stay firm and tight once used for a year or so. I was happy to see you can purchase replacement flaps to bring it back to life if that happens. So overall defiantly worth the money and after some gentle, patient, treat orientated persuasion my border terrier went through it! (Took all afternoon to get her to push through it on her own but she never says no to a bit of cheese to chase after!)

Superb design. This was fitted into my south-facing upvc porch door (into a pvc panel - not in the glazing). My Lhasa apso dog learnt how to work the flap within days. I did as other reviewers suggested and taped up the flaps so she learnt to hop in and out through the hole, then the next day just left the central insulated flap down. The third day I dropped one of the magnetic flaps. And the fourth day she could easily push through the full door. She has lots of dog friends who visit. I was amused to see her best mate, a Border Collie/ Labrador cross, easily use the flap too (with zero training just following my dog). We’ve recently had a very strong storm with 80 mph winds. The flap has not flapped about under any weather. It has not let rain in. It does let a small draught through - but I don’t mind that at all. Really great purchase.

Great size. Sturdy, easy to fit. Our dog is 18 kg, fits through easily. Took him about 24 hours to learn how to use it. Now takes himself out to do his business. Easy to secure when we are away. We do hear when he goes through it, a plus for me as I know where he is.

Nice and quiet with the dog/cat running through it. Seems very robus, however, a slight windy day and the flap is blowing in leaving large hole in my house and usually a puddle of water on the floor if its raining

Having had many cat flaps over the years I elected to spend a bit more money for a more robust pet door that prevented all my expensive heating from escaping. So far, it is definitely more weatherproof and my cats quickly got used to it (although I suspect they don't like not being able to see out of their own personal window). However, despite being DIY proficient, the instructions were baffling and lacked some crucial details - I still don't know which panel should of been installed inside or outside. I also didn't like that the plastic screws have to be cut off once installed, with no covers supplied leaving sharp and unsightly 'stubs'. All very disappointing given how expensive this product is.

I have it 4 stars for ease of installation but the lack of ease may have been more down to our door type rather than the pet door. We have a smallish dog (cavapoo) and she was used to alerting us to go out by ringing her bells but during winter months it was becoming quite a nuisance. Installing this doggy door was the best thing we did for her (and us). She learnt to use it on the same day with a little encouragement and now has great freedom. Highly recommend this one. We feel ZERO cold air coming in from it - this one really is well insulated. Also, the fact it comes with a solid plastic cover to install indoors, when on holiday or concerned about intruders (eg other animals), is a great addition too.

For the money an inferior product. The doors do not close completely on both sides after the cat has gone through. Your have to always give it a push after, otherwise there is draft and the whole point of having a double door is missed. The effect of the insulation layer in between the 2 flaps is very questionable as there is a big gap between his and the inside panels of the ‘tunnel’ in the door. There is a big mistake in the installation manual. If you follow the instructions you end up with an opening which is 0.5 cm too narrow horizontally. This created a lot of extra work. Totally unneccesary. That is -3 stars, leaving 2 stars. The looks could be better too, you see screws everywhere. I picked the Medium size because the small size looked as made for a rat to go through. This size is actually a bit too big for a cat and more for a small dog. As our cat is a little older already I did not wanted to offer a cumbersome small door. Not a recommendable product, but among the other even more inferior products maybe the best you can get. I do not understand why in 2025 it is still not possible to buy a decent sturdy good looking cat door that lasts many years and works good in every possible way.

Super, étanche et le froid ne passe pas du tout

Abbiamo installato la porta su porta-finestra per permettere ai nostri cani di uscire ed entrare quando vogliono. Abbiamo due cani di taglia medio-grande e per loro é perfetta. L'installazione è stata facile e anche lˋutilizzo. Per i nostri cani era una novità ma hanno imparato velocemente come usarla. Lo sportello è composto da tre panelli, il centrale di plastica rigida, i due esterni più morbidi, così permettono isolamento dal freddo e comunque di uscire ed entrare comodamente. É tutto semplice da pulire con un panno umido e resistente.
