The Big Cheese Inflatable Eyeball Bird Scarer, Wind Activated Bird Deterrent, Yellow, 29 cm x 1.7 cm x 20 cm

Magpies had been terrorising our back garden and the smaller birds had gradually diminished in numbers. This scarer went up late afternoon a week ago and from the first morning there have been no magpies on the grass. A tall conifer was where lots of the magpies gathered in the day; they were still there that first morning but now they have moved on. We seem to be magpie free in the back. Don't be put off by the description of a 'balloon' it is more robust than that, it's like a beach ball and, hanging on the cord provided from a kite pole we already had, it withstood quite strong winds here this past week. We could not be more pleased with this product. --- I want to update my original review as it is now the end of March and not a single magpie has landed on the garden since this went up! We have it flying from an ex kite pole and the effect is it is 'flying' this is great product.

I was impressed by the reviews of the effectiveness of this product. Suffering much frustration from the extent to which Magpies were digging deep holes in my grass I decided to give this product a try. I bought two. They seem to deter the sort of birds one would wish to see in the garden, but totally failed to deter the Magpies!! They continue to tear up turf under, near and around the 'scarers'. In my experience the scarers are a complete waste of money.

I'm hoping they work. I've not seen a hawk yet. I was told a while ago that what deters the hawks are the 'eyes' I have them both up on a very high pole. They are quite strong and should last for quite a while. Very reasonable price as well. Edited.......... Unfortunately another blackbird was murde red by a sparrow hawk this morning. I set them high up in the breeze but no deterrent to hawks. The y are decorative LOL and I'll leave them up just for the fun. Just need a law returning to allow farmers to keep hawks under control.

Very effective at deterring seagulls from nesting but only if the balloon is suspended from a high pole, such as the telescopic poles supplied with bird scarer kites. I actually had already purchased a bird of prey scarer with a 3 metre pole which didn't work. My neighbour had bought one of these balloons and tethered it to his own improvised 4+ metre pole.. No more seagulls nesting on roof in property behind his house, which would wake in the early hours. So did the sdame but using the pole I already had gaffer taped to a couple of those 2 metre aluminium garden rods from B&Q. I think its the balloon's all around 'eyes' so there is constant eye contact which freaks the gulls out. The balloon itself also doesn't look like anything the gulls naturally recognise (or can make out in time as being fake) and so are never sure what to make of it. They may still land on neighbouring roofs and fly nearby but they no longer stick around and won't commit to nesting :/ Anyway that's our experience. Only four stars because the balloon is pointless unless suspended some heigh with a pole - which is not supplied.

I have been using it for some time and they are very effective at keeping the weight of pigeons from eating my seeds haven’t had any issues. But one of the slow off by the wind and landed on the end of my garden but haven’t had any issues of pigeons getting used to them yet

I should have taken note of the reviewer who said it didnt work and looked like a leftover from a Chinese New Year celebration. He was right. I'd had problems with a sparrowhawk and a pair of blood thirsty magpies who had all but decimated my song bird and small garden bird population. Thankfully I had a balloon inflater otherwise it'd still be deflated and I'd be in an ICU. Unless you've got a pair of lungs on you like an opera singer you'll struggle to blow this up! So it took about 15 mins to inflate with the inflator I've got but never used til now. I knew it would come in handy one day! Then I stuck the eyes on it. They stick really well. Just stick them all round the balloon rather than just one pair on the front the instructions say. Fixed the string on the balloon to an 8ft garden cane with a screw and one of those plastic cord grip things that you screw to the wall to hold cable tidy. Worked a treat. Managed to get it out the door and into the garden without poking the eye out of the dog and pushed the cane into a plant container near where the magpies and sparrowhawk enter the garden. The first day didnt see many birds at all, and definately not the magpies or sparrowhawk. The wood pigeons and collared doves sat in the tree at the bottom of the garden, fascinated with it but not risking coming close. The second day all the small garden birds were back plus the wood pigeons and collared doves who had decided that it was nothing to harm them even though I'd moved it to a different location (you should move it every day evidently so they don't get used to it). Well it made no difference to the pigeons, the blazen critters were all but tap dancing under it and carried on as usual eating their food nearby. I didn't mind this, I'm fond of the pigeons and collared doves. This proves that pigeons are not as thick as we are led to believe. They certainly weren't fooled by my enormous yellow balloon with eyes on it. No sign of the magpies or the sparrow hawke. On the third day however, the magpies were doing their battle of britain formation over the garden chasing one of the remaining song birds, who was flying for all its worth to get away and sadly failing miserably. After they'd killed it in the field behind my garden and taken the sad little corpse back to their ravenous greedy babies in the nest they were then back to the garden. Sat on the fence at the bottom looking at the huge yellow bobbing balloon with eyes. I could see the indifference in their faces. Eyeing it up and down, tilting their heads to look at it from different angles. Then dropping down onto the lawn, the only thing that made them jump was the rustling of the leaves as the small garden birds made their quick escape under the bushes. The magpies then strode around the lawn like gladiators that had just won a tournament, blatantly walking under the yellow balloon, occasionally looking up at it as if to say, 'yea no threat, nothing to see here' And every day since then life has carried on as normal minus the battle of britain stunt and the sparrowhawke. I think the latter has cleared off to easier prey since I let my jack russel cross dachshund guard the balloon. Gazing up lovingly at it, dreaming of how much fun it would be to shred it to bits. The other birds and the magpies take no notice of her and just carry on doing what they do best, stuffing their beaks with seeds and suet balls. So I can't recommend this thing, not for scaring off birds anyway. They have all become quite attached to it now. So I'm now considering invsting in a hide and buying a blunderbus to get the magpies and sparrowhawk if it ever returns. Save your pennies. Although I reckon these balloons would be great xmas decorations in the garden decorated with tinsel and a bit of glitter! In the meantime I'm negotiating with the local chinese takeaway as I think it'd look pretty impressive in their waiting area.

I bought this item to try and keep larger birds like magpies etc off my bird feeders so I hung it near by but to no avail so a waste of money

Vi har den på vår husbil när vi inte använder denna. Fiskmåsarna hade bajsat ner hela taket. Fungera perfekt, dock tog en storm den ena. Men vi hade köpt 3 st.

Eye catching inflatable ball. Worked fine till the birds copped on it was no danger to them. Then a strong gust of wind decided to move it on to pastures new.

Je n'y croyait pas trop en les achetant. Nous étions excédés par les corneilles, merles, pigeons et tourterelles qui prenaient notre terrasse pour des WC publics. je suis tombé sur cet article chez Amazon. Vu le faible prix, j'ai décidé d'essayer. Impressionnant! A peine installé, (j'en ai mis deux): plus un oiseau; les corneilles ont quitté le toit de l'immeuble. Elles ne vont même plus sur les terrasses d'à côté. Corneilles, pigeons et tourterelles n'osent plus approcher sur un rayon de 50m environ. Cela fait une semaine maintenant et la terrasse est impeccable. La question maintenant est : Y a t'il une accoutumance? L'effet va t'il durer longtemps? En attendant 10/10 pour le moment
