Guts, the feared Black Swordsman, finishes his desperate battle with the monstrous Count, cutting and blasting him to gory scraps when the presence of the Count's daughter makes the monster hesitate. But Guts won't even have the time to clean his gigantic sword when the Count's dying pleas activate the Behelit, summoning the five God Hands, demon lords of immeasurable power. Guts' journey so far has been a long road of pain and death, but that's a walk in the park compared to fighting his way out of Hell itself! Review: Flashback Memories! - Barring a short and largely inconsequential bit of Puck shenanigans right at the beginning, this volume is where Berserk really begins to hit its stride. Plenty of great scenes with the God Hand's first appearance, a few hints on what drives the main character so hard to begin with, a tense and emotional ending to the first true story arc in the series... followed by a pretty intense flashback into Guts's childhood that quite honestly explains almost everything about how he ended up. This is where the Golden Age begins, where all of the issues I've previously listed finally disappear and - I'd argue - never come up again. This is where I was forever glued - and my immensely high opinion of the series has only soared higher since. If you've made it this far, over the few rough volumes and storylines, without deciding it's not a story for you (or quitting in disgust), then you're certainly in to stay. Review: Good - Good

Hard
The first 3 volumes of Berserk are set in his present time. It really establishes the world and the character himself GUTS. It gives a lot of mystery to the character and you want to know more and more about him. How did he get to where he is? These first 3 volumes follow GUTS on his own adventures. Going to towns and slaying demons. Each demon with their own twisted personalities with amazing art style to show this off. Same goes for the world around GUTS. The art style is amazing. So much detail and sometimes it has minimal pieces come up which are just as good. The books have dialogue but sometimes. It feels like it doesn’t have much and it lets the art tell the story which I really enjoy. The first 3 volumes leave you wanting more and get you asking how GUTS ended it up the brash warrior he is now and why all these problems are piled on top of him.

So intense!
So much happens in this volume. So many important plot beats met. And it's really long. This volume continues the storyline of the previous volume but also sets up Guts' backstory in the Golden Age arc.

Incredible Read
This volume was extremely sad however the action was easy to follow and the storyline was good... this volume sets up the perfect understanding as to Gut's current suffering after the Golden Age Arc.

Best volume so far
I loved this more than the first two. Pace picks up well as the bad guy being more entertaining. Getting to see a certain group is also very exciting

The origin
Origin starts here. If you think it was gruesome, cruel, violent before, its going to be way worse. But if you decide to read, it could probably become the best book you have read. Origin starts last chapter in this volume and now we will know why Guts is hunting demons
