Ideal Solo Moka Pot
Iโve been using the Bialetti 3-Cup Moka Express and have been really pleased with it. I mainly drink milk-based coffees rather than black coffee, and Iโve found the moka pot makes an excellent base for homemade lattes, cappuccinos, and flat whites. After some experimentation, my preferred ratios are around 60ml of coffee with 120ml of steamed milk for a milder drink, or 90ml of coffee with 120ml of milk when I want something stronger and more coffee-forward. One tip that made a noticeable difference for me was starting with hot water in the lower chamber. This seems to produce a smoother cup and helps reduce bitterness. Iโve also tried both pre-ground coffee and freshly ground beans. While both work well, freshly ground coffee definitely produces a richer flavour and aroma. For coffee dosing, Iโve found that around 15g of coffee works best for me in the 3-cup basket. I can fit up to 17g depending on the coffee, but at that point I find the basket becomes a little too compacted for my liking. Keeping it closer to 15g seems to give me the most consistent results and an even extraction. In terms of capacity, Iโd say the 3-cup model is ideal for one person. It comfortably makes one larger milk-based drink or perhaps one and a half smaller drinks. For two people who both enjoy a full-sized coffee, it can feel a little small, so you may want to consider the 4-cup or 6-cup version instead. I think the strength of the moka pot is its simplicity. It produces a concentrated, flavourful coffee that works well on its own or as a base for milk drinks, without the cost or maintenance of an espresso machine. For anyone looking to make quality coffee at home with minimal fuss, the Bialetti 3-Cup is easy to recommend. One thing worth mentioning is that I use a gas hob and ended up buying a heat diffuser/hot plate. The moka pot would otherwise sit right on the edge of the cast-iron pan supports, which didnโt feel particularly stable. The hot plate allows me to position the pot more centrally and gives me better control over the heat during brewing. Itโs not essential, but it has made the process easier and more consistent for me.

Easy to use and makes proper espresso-style coffee
I bought this because I wanted a proper stovetop coffee maker rather than just relying on instant coffee, and I can honestly say the coffee from this tastes so much nicer. It feels a bit more like a ritual as well, which I really like. The main thing I think people need to know is that the โ3 cupโ size does not mean 3 normal mugs. It makes about 2 small espresso-style coffees in my opinion, or enough for one stronger coffee depending on how you drink it. If you prefer an Americano, you can just add hot water afterwards, which is what I would do. Itโs very easy to use once youโve done it once. You fill the bottom part with water up to the little valve, then put your ground coffee into the filter basket. I wouldnโt press the coffee down too much, just fill it level. Then you screw the top and bottom together properly and put it on the hob over a low to medium heat. After a few minutes the coffee starts coming up into the top section. Once itโs finished bubbling and the top part has filled, itโs ready. It sounds more complicated written down than it actually is. The coffee comes out strong, rich and much nicer than instant. It definitely has more of that proper espresso-style taste. I also like that if you want it milder, you can just add hot water or milk rather than changing the way you make it. It looks really nice as well and feels like a proper classic coffee maker. Itโs one of those things that looks good in the kitchen and also genuinely does the job well. One thing to be aware of is the size. If youโre expecting to fill a big mug straight from it, you may find it smaller than expected, so I do think it helps to understand before buying that this is more for espresso-style coffee or smaller servings. For me thatโs absolutely fine, but itโs worth knowing. Cleaning it is straightforward too. I just let it cool, take it apart, empty the coffee grounds and rinse it out. Itโs simple once you get into the routine of using it. Overall Iโm really pleased with it. The coffee tastes great, itโs easy to use once you know the steps, and it feels like a much nicer way to make coffee at home.

Simple and easy!
A doddle to use. We've had one of these for years but after it stained through heavy use, I decided to put it in the dishwasher... not recommended! It took all the finish off and was beyond redemption. Still worked OK though! Just treated myself to a new one, nice and shiny, and still the same awesomely simple bit of kit. I bought the 3 cup size (120ml here) which gives about half an average mugful, or 3 shots espresso. The coffee is ready quickly and tastes great. I use the smallest gas ring on my hob and have had no issues with the handle getting damaged. We also have a machine but I do like to use the moka pot every now and then as it's so easy. I've even taken the old one on holiday, then I'm guaranteed a decent cup. It was on offer here on Amazon so I'm very happy!!

This espresso maker is very nice and is making a very good coffee
This espresso maker is very nice and is making a very good coffee. I was expecting it to do 2 to 3 espresso cups of coffee but (unless I'm not using it well), it hasn't reach that number so far. I am not a heavy coffee drinker and bought it in order to receive friends and family (who usually drink espressos) so it would be fine for the occasional coffee cups, but it could have been annoying if I was drinking an espresso every morning with my partner. My boyfriend is more a mug-coffee drinker (with milk) and it's perfect for one mug, so, so far, all good for me. It is easy to use and to clean. At first I had a slight leaking problem -where the seal is- while heating, but I have been very careful with it and tight it correctly and it hasn't reappeared. The quality itself seems really good and I love the smell of the freshly made coffee.

Solid and reliable little Moka Pot
A Moka Pot is one of the oldest forms of making coffee and, even all these years later, this little Italian coffee gadget still continues to make excellent coffee. Having never used one until really getting into coffee, I decided to order one and give it a try. Youโll often see this come up on social media marketplaces, and itโs often because people donโt know how to use them and end up with bitter, awful coffee. If you do your research online and have a quick read/watch of a couple of videos, you can soon get the hang of it. When grinding your coffee beans, you want to grind fairly coarse, but not as coarse as a French Press. You want the pieces to be fairly small but not espresso consistency, otherwise the coffee will be too bitter. The grind consistency you need can easily be achieved with a blade grinder. You can of course use pre-ground coffee, but you canโt beat the taste of freshly ground beans. This particular Moka Pot is pretty small and would be ideal for one or two people. The coffee it makes is a lovely alternative to espresso from an espresso machine and makes a great base for a milk based drink, and can provide you with delicious coffee that youโd find in your local cafe. Just make sure to use a towel or something to pick up the bottom of the Moka Pot when youโve filled it with hot water, as it gets very hot very quickly. Once youโve brewed your coffee over a medium heat, go and run the base of it under a cold tap to stop it from brewing. After youโve poured your coffee, just rinse out the top of the Moka Pot to remove any leftover coffee residue and towel dry to prevent rusting. This is a handy little coffee gadget and would be great to take on travels, providing you have a gas hob at your destination. If you want to use it on an induction hob, youโll have to buy one that works on that heat source. This makes a great gift for someone wanting to venture into the world of home brewing and, when used correctly, makes a tasty cup of coffee.

Elegant Simplicity Which Works
Ok, ok it's not Espresso because it operates with 1.5 bars of pressure and an Espresso machine works at 9 bars. Well, the more expensive and higher up in the range Espresso machines do. But what the pundits are not telling us is that up until 1948 that pressure was the only Espresso there was which was why the Moka pot was Espresso for the home. So while it's not on a par with modern Espresso machines it's still Espresso as it originally was. On to the 3-cup Bialetti Moka Express: Fill the bottom section with cold water up to just below the valve, drop in the funnel and loosely fill it with ground coffee ensuring it's level and there are no grounds on the rim and then screw on the top section and place it over a low heat. When it gurgles the coffee is done so remove it from the heat. That's all it takes to make very high quality coffee. Some people will say to fill it with hot or even boiling water. But if you do that you'll first of all burn your hand because it will get hot. Secondly you won't get a full pot of coffee because a lot of the water will uncondense and flow back into the lower chamber. A moka pot works best when started with cold water over a low heat. Again some people say to adjust the strength of the coffee by adjusting the amount of coffee while others complain that it doesn't make full cups: No, no, no. The funnel is still filled and the strength is adjusted by diluting the finished coffee with water for an Americano or milk for a Cappuccino or Latte. Remember what I said at the beginning: It's Espresso so what you get is Espresso shots, in fact 3 of them in the 3-cup size and what we usually but not always do with Espresso shots is dilute them. If the coffee is too strong after dilution we use a lighter roast coffee and if it's too weak we use a darker roast coffee. Lastly the quantity of coffee of the 3-cup size: The bottom chamber is filled to just below the valve with cold water and thats around 150ml. What you end up with in the top pot is around 120ml of coffee because some water is left in the bottom chamber due to steam getting cooler and turning back into water. When the coffee is diluted with water 1:1 there is enough to fill a regular mug but you might like to dilute it 1:2. What that gives you is an "Americano" which is basically one or more Espresso shots turned into a weaker coffee we more usually get from a Cafetiere, Filter or Percolator. For a Capuccino or Latte the dilution is more usually 1:2 or even 1:3. But in that case don't forget your Bialetti Tuttocrema Frother . In conclusion my rating is of course 5 stars. If I could give it 10, 20 or even 100 stars that's what I would give it and more. It's an Italian classic first made in the 1930's and the first of its kind. If you want the latest do everything miracle or fad you won't like this. But if you just want the best coffee you ever tasted you'll love it.
