Winsor & Newton Calligraphy Wooden Box

These inks cost £3.25 each on campus, so I found this listing to be a bargain. The top and bottom pieces of the box are essentially the same minus wooden dividers, you can tell from the indents on the cover. I suppose this reduces hassle in the manufacturing process. That said, the box can be laid flat on tables, which is convenient for organising; you can place other stationary on the cover. It's a nice box. The ink themselves are fantastic and each as as it should be. I purchased this for drawing not calligraphy, but I did try out the provided dip pen anyway and found it easy to hold, with a satisfactory range of nibs. Having used it for a few days, some things to note: - the reservoir will save you from dipping after every letter so don't misplace that - give the metallics (especially gold) a good long shake because the particles settle over time - wipe the nibs dry after washing so they don't rust - when dipping you only want to dip the nib.. let the pen stay dry - use as little pressure as possible when starting out, then add more if necessary - dip again if you need more ink (pressing harder won't magically refill ink)

I have tried lots of other reasonably priced inks and non compare well to W & N. Often the others cause intense staining. The pigment in these is perfect, flows well and last well too. I had some that were decades old, and yet still worked fresh out of the bottle. This is a nice set of useful colours for artists and crafters.

The inks came in good condition, and the box is very good quality. However I found that the box does not close properly, but it doesn't cause a huge problem. The inks shows up clearly and brightly on paper, and the nibs and calligraphy pen are good quality. My calliagraphy pen cracked a little but I believe that it was from me leaning too hard, but it still works. I'm very pleased with this product, it's very affordable and works really well

The product description is a touch messy but it arrived and actually is 30ml. I ordered it at the same time as the gold I was replacing which is the same size bottle. Good neutral opaque silver, not too glitzy. It's not water resistant so bear that in mind. Don't forget to mix frequently during use.

Yep, these boys have been making ink for a long time and they know what they are doing. Indian ink, done correctly. I realise everyone knows this but I thought if I helped just one person sometime it will have been worth typing : do not use this ink with fountain pens, this is fine for dip pens but if you pop it in your fountain pen it's bad news. Before you ask, no I didn't but I stopped someone else from trying it ;) Sorry if this was obvious but nowhere in the product description does it state that.
