TIKI Island Outdoor Torch, Backyard Garden Decor, Weather-Resistant

First of all, I bought this exact model in a Home store about 7 years ago. I have loved the method of filling that did not require me to soot my hands by unscrewing a wick and top, placing dripping wick somewhere, filling, then reversing. Here I just pour it into the bowel on top. I have read here about several who say it is hard to get right in the hole. Honestly, I never even knew I was supposed to twist to close the hole at the bottom of the bowel and just let it stay open and did not worry about the excess in the bowel. It would burn more flames at first because of the excess but never had a problem or felt unsafe. For fun I tried twisting my old one to see if the mechanism might not be new and not existed back then, but it twisted just fine so seems I should have been doing all along. The upper part seems just as strong as my old one, and also a slight bit bigger. It does have a magnet with about the same magnetism. I saw people complaining there was no magnet, and that is not my finding on the one I received. I live in a S Florida and found it adequate. I think some of others' problems may be that you have to be precise on getting it covered without any tilt. The pole is now screw together segments of much thinner metal. It makes sense when thinking about shipping. I have not tested its sturdiness, but suspect it would not sustain much pressure. Fortunately my old poles will screw in to the new tops, so that's what I'm doing. The reason I am finally replacing is the one in the picture finally had the bottom 3 inches of pole rust off after many years of being put into a plastic slot from an old pool fence. This caused it to take a swim in my pool while I was away a couple weeks. Rusted out the top too bad - but years of using at least 6 days a month were taking their toll anyway, though they still worked. Came boxed well and intact and on time. Ordering the rest now since the first checked out. **NEW info I cut my old sturdy poles and screwed on new tops. I filled as I used to and did not bother changing old procedures. Poured in fuel. Left twist to close hole open and had some slop overfill (I’m in to convenience). Got a series of photos. Pretty tame, then a bit violent like I am used to, then it calms down to great torch glow. I think this was with a wick length left to the shipping and a bit longer than I used to have (by the way, I think I had the same wicks for years on last ones…..). I may shorten as the intense period was a bit more than before. Overall, I have had 20 years of tiki type lamps and these are the most convenient and attractive. For 20-25 bucks and multi year use (I’ll see if these hold up), they are a value. UPDATE: used about 10 times. Work great. No problem rotating opening. Lid holds in rain and wind.

I bought 4 of these last summer for the area behind our trailer, which is extremely dark and wooded. We bought them primarily to repel bugs and provide light on the path to our fire pit in the back. Due to the reasons below, we use them when we have guests at the fire pit but not when it's just the two of us. Pros: Much more attractive than the cheap bamboo torches; Large flame provides ample light; Strategic placement of torches provides excellent perimeter for citronella or other bug repellant fluid; Flame snuffer is securely attached; Tall and easy to assemble Cons: Cannot remove tank to fill, you need to be either really tall or remove upper-most post to fill; The hole to fill is oval, not circular, so unless you have a specially fitted funnel, spillage on the top surface of the tank is imminent; Due to spillage on surface, flame tends to burn not just the wick, but the entire top surface of the tank no matter how much you try to clean it up or dry it; As a result of burning on the surface of the top of the torch due to spillage, paint peels off, making it very messy; Uses A LOT of fluid due to larger flame (usually a gallon every two weekends for 4 torches)

These tiki torches are great quality! The bowl holds a generous amount of citronella fluid, so you don’t have to refill it often. The wick is thick and burns steadily, giving off a long-lasting flame. We used smokeless citronella fluid, which worked perfectly. The best part...my husband drilled a 3/4" hole in our deck railing and slid the torch pole right in. It matches all the baluster perfectly—like it was made to go there! Great quality for the price, work well, easy to assemble. Nice color, perfect size for my yard. Enjoying this summer.

I picked up several of these for my yard and deck. They're nice, but I thought with the caps I'd be able to leave them out in the yard rather than having to bring them in after each use. Bad assumption. Minnesota weather can be tricky at times, but I thought they'd hold up better than they did. One moderate storm was all it took to ruin them. Some notes. - The caps are held on 'lightly' by tiny magnets. A bit of wind will blow them off. They are attached to the torch bowls with a very thin chain, which will break in heavier winds. - If/when it rains, and the caps blow off (and they will), two things will happen. One, water will get in to the fuel reservoir and you will have to dump all of it. Two, the insides of the torch bowls will rust badly. - The torch bodies are a bit top heavy and like to tip, so storing them standalone with fuel in them is also out. When you take them in, you have to empty them. They're lovely when new and kept in nice shape, but don't let the 'covered bowl' design fool you into thinking you can leave them out. They have to be taken in before it rains. (I think there's a small note on this in their instructions, but not on this site where I bought them). 5 out of 5 for looks and function but like 1 or 2 out of 5 for durability. In hindsight I think I would have just gotten the cheaper ones.

These are the best designed tiki torches. I've been through dozens of bamboo torches that have all collapsed after one or two seasons. I kept buying more replacement bamboo torches because they are so cheap. Until one caught fire a couple of weeks ago, which led me to look for something more sustainable. Because these are made of a non-rusting metal, and because they contain a magnetic cover with a an attached chain, the cover doesn't get lost, the torch won't catch fire, and I can leave them outside, rain or shine. I also bought the Tiki-brand plug and pour funnel, which isn't absolutely necessary, but it is much more convenient to fill the torch while on the pole, than using a standard funnel, or nothing at all. All-in-all, if you want a good-looking, very functional torch year after year, this is a great design and a great choice. Just wish there wasn't an Amazon limit of 4/customer (pain in the neck to circumvent)

These are, by far, the best torches I've every bought. You can stop searching now. THESE are the kickbutt torches you hoped existed. These were re-purchases after 2 of my originals, from 4 or 5 years ago, finally started leaking. We live in tough conditions, extreme weather, and I never bring them in like I should and they still went through 4 wet springs, scorching hot summers, and harsh winters. They are well built and study. As for the Torches themselves? Outstanding. You'll never even consider those crappy wicker ones again. Excellent flame initially, which gets even larger once they get going because of the top vents. They are easy to fill with the twist system and the magnetic covers stay on unless the wind is 40+. If I have a complaint, they are a bit of oil hogs, but not any worse than most. I'm tempted to buy 4 or 6 more of them, just in case they decide to discontinue them...

These are so much better than the cheaper ones that need to be filled via the wick, it gives soot all over your hands. The Tiki has a port to easily open to fill without all the soot on your hands
