Consistent coffee, easy to use, easy to wash, simply the best.
Having done battle with the best lever espresso machine (The Londinium) for two years, I decided that enough was enough and I bought one of these filter units. I have three now, two at home and one at my son's house in Anglesey. I also have a multi-cup filter that sits over a glass jug, for making larger quantities, but I rarely use that. The system is such that I have found that a bigger dose of coffee is required than one would use for an espresso machine which is 7 grams for a single, and 14 grams for a double. To get the strength that I like. I use somewhere around 20 grams of beans, for a half pint porcelain mug, that I sourced from Japan (Hasami). They have three of these, unglazed, semi glazed and fully glazed. My favourite is the semi glazed version, it feels great in the hand. I buy freshly roasted beans from Allpress, but one could roast them oneself for extra freshness. My Allpress beans have a "roasted on" date rather than a "use by" date as found in supermarkets. There are numerous roasters in the UK, and through experimentation you can find a roaster that you like, or one can shift around endlessly, both will work... You takes your choice. My coffee is never more than two weeks post roast, and that is on the day that a new batch arrives. Allpress might be considered expensive to some, but I am happy, so I don't mess. around too much. The important thing is to have a good grinder that does not retain grinds that will get dumped into the next cup of java and mar the flavour. Another very consistent roaster is Roundhill. One of the greatest inventions of recent years is the Niche grinder which cleverly angles the grinder so that all of the ground coffee arrives into your chosen receptacle, whether that be an espresso handle, a filter (of some sort) or even a French pot, or "Bialetti" style unit... etc. etc... Whatever, there is no retention. My point is that the best coffee is freshly ground, since much of the flavour is bound up inside the bean, however it was roasted. even so. age is still your enemy. Allpress employ air roasters, which eliminate the burnt flavour that is prevalent in many supermarket coffees. I highly recommend the Swissgold filters, they are so simple to use, and they last for ever, cleaning is a doddle, and the coffee is consistent.

Pretty amazing for a small plastic tub
90mm diameter so fits standard UK kitchen mugs up to a "cake in a mug" sized mug (although you'd need to add more water to the coffee maker part way through to fill it). So it'll also fit your average a thermal cup (the ones that usually come with a sealable lid for travel). That was the information I really needed when purchasing this, but I took a punt it would fit my favourite coffee cup and it paid off: this is a super little coffee maker. Pros: Small, light - takes up about as much space in the cupboard as a standard mug. Fantastically easy and less messy to clean than a cafe tiere press. Easy to use: one scoop, one fill of 90c water = one coffee precisely. Coffee: tastes good! Honestly it might be my imagination but I think it actually makes better tasting coffee than my coffee press, although that's pretty marginal and of course subjective. Importantly: no bits! I can drink those last few ml of my cup of Joe without choking on grounds for the next hour, amazing I've never had a coffee press manage that! Cons: One cup at a time, coffee fiends! This is a personal coffee maker, sorry! Bits do not clip together they just sit on top of each other. So if travelling with it would recommend a bit of black electrical tape just over one edge at the top and that'll hold it together.

Perfect for coffee lovers wanting a quick cuppa!
I used to have one of these some years ago but it had got lost in one of our moves. This one works as well as the previous one and is perfect for one mug of filtered coffee. So much easier than putting the coffee maker on and less faff than a small cafetiere! Also easy to clean and as a bonus the lid is ideal to rest the filter on before cleaning it. Not the cheapest but for me the price is worth it for a great piece of kit to make a great mug of coffee. Definitely 5 stars! Edited to amend typo 05/10/29

Great Device but won't fit all mugs well
It's better then my bodrum old one I had. This is nice and very easy to clean and good air flow actually better designed than the discontinued bordum one. Recommended highly for work and home. Only criticism is the bottom is not cone shape which would suit all cups. This had a sort of lip at the bottom and doesn't always fit the cup well. Shame as that makes it 4/5 not 5/5 please revise this product to not have the lip on the base and have a cone shape to nest all cup types ๐

Does the job perfectly
I don't often write reviews, but am so impressed with the SwissGold filter I decided to share my thoughts. I'd been quite happily using Rombouts/Sainsburys one cup filters for many years but recently became struck with guilt at the amount of non-recyleable plastic I was sending into landfills as a result of using them. So I was looking for something portable, simple to use and capable of producing a great cup of coffee, as well as reducing waste. This SwissGold filter certainly does the job - in fact my coffee tastes even better using the SwissGold (and this is from someone who is extremely fussy about decent coffee!) It's early days yet, but I certainly haven't noticed any problem with the speed of filtering - the water does seem to race through at first, but as the level reduces it slows down. In the end it takes about as long to filter through as it did using the Rombouts plastic one cups. By the way, someone mentioned in an earlier review they didn't know what the lid was for - you need to put this on top of the coffee filter once you've filled it with boiling water & it prevents heat escaping so keeps the coffee nice & hot whilst it's filtering. I'm really chuffed with this product so far!

Great coffee
This is my third SwissGold. They last for years so, ultimately, are worth the price. Tried another, cheaper brand, which was returned as it just didn't cut the mustard. SwissGold leaves no trace of grouts at the bottom of the cup, and with good quality Arabica coffee, makes a deeply delicious wake you up, morning drink. Well-made and robust, simple in design, it is way ahead of other 'attempts' on the market. It is light enough to take with you to enjoy your brew on holiday. A lid keeps your coffee hot if there happens to be a distraction. Would never be without one and it is highly recommended.

COULD BE BETTER!
Excellent concept however design could easily be improved. The main problem with this design is the stability of the product when placed on top of a cup, it does not sit properly and has a tendency to slip from side to side. Not ideal especially when you are pouring boiling water into it. The second problem with the design is that the sieve holes in the top cup are too big and the water passes through to the filter too quickly. This results in a weaker coffee than you would normally get with the same amount of coffe ground coffee. An extra spoon generally gives you your desired taste. Thirdly the lid serves no real purpose at all. I have started mixing my coffee and boiling water in a cup and leaving it to sit for 3 mins before pouring through the filter into another cup to get the perfect cup of coffee. The filter itself is excellent and very easy to clean

Easy to use, easy to clean, fill up your cup, straight from the bean!
I love coffee, but sometimes I need a quick fix - and granulated coffee doesn't always cut the mustard. There's various filter-coffee devices out there, many of which take paper filters and some of which use permanent filters. This is the latter kind, so you'll have no need to stock up on them. The device itself is incredibly easy to use. Simply pop the filter cup on your mug and add a spoon or so of ground coffee (even finely ground coffee can be used, since the filter is extremely fine itself). The unit comes with a special cup with holes in the bottom that you place inside the filter, and fill it with water. The water trickles through as with all drip-style coffee makers, and eventually you can remove the filter and enjoy the brew. Cleaning is very easy, since it's just a quick rinse of the water cup (which will likely have grounds stuck on the bottom) and a rinse out of the filter itself. The filter is extremely durable, and for the price is excellent value for money. I work in a hard-water area, and the kettle picks up a lot of scale. Absolutely nothing but the water gets through the filter, so you can drink right to the last drop without any unexpected mouthfuls of coffee grounds or water scale. For the price, it's a highly durable and robust bit of kit, and takes up no more room than a cup. I'd highly recommend!
