Excellent game - finally a new game rather than a squad update!
You may notice two very unfavourable and very honest reviews for FIFA 14 and FIFA 15 in my reviews. Based on the gameplay from those two, I was growing slightly disillusioned with the FIFA series. It got to the point where my expectations for FIFA 16 were very low and I expected yet another squad update with poor gameplay and a multitude of bugs and poor AI. Luckily, EA seem to have got their stuff together and finally gave us another great edition of the game. I have played this since it came in the post and can't really stop, the gameplay is so satisfying and addicting. Gameplay is now VERY realistic, and I think the easiest way to sum it up is that you can no longer just play a long through ball every time, even if your player is not facing the way he is kicking and should realistically have no idea where his teammate upfront is. In FIFA 15 you could do this with the lowest rated player, and as the defenders were made to be complete morons scoring was very easy, and defending near on impossible. This is simply not possible in FIFA 16, for two reasons. Firstly, you really have to position yourself correctly, aim the pass and get the power right to get a good through ball in, and secondly, defenders now seem to have MUCH improved AI, in that they follow the players they are marking and no longer make silly mistakes. People who enjoyed the extremely unrealistic and somewhat simplistic gameplay of FIFA 15 (and 14 to an extent) probably won't enjoy this - at least initially - because you genuinely have to concentrate and play well not just to score goals but to string passes together. I always hated how you could in essence just hold two buttons in FIFA 15 and with a number of first-touch passes get from your own goal to the opposition goal with defenders unable to get anywhere near you. I just did not find such gameplay fun in the slightest. Anyhow let us not mention the two previous installments any more, they don't deserve any more space than necessary. Let's focus on FIFA 16. I think I summed up gameplay above in a nice way. I usually only play career mode and online seasons, without touching FUT, so I won't be reviewing that. I would like to add that goalkeepers finally seem to have a very good AI - I am yet to see any bizarre behaviour, which can only be a good thing. Gameplay now feels a lot slower, but that is not to say you can't utilise a quick winger to wreak havoc on the counter attack. The game rewards people who think, pick out good passes and use their whole team to play. Running through with one player and kicking it in the net like it is Sunday league seems to be over, thankfully. Career mode runs very smoothly now as opposed to previously, there is a nice addition of pre-season tournaments that can win you some extra transfer cash, you can also train 5 players each week using different exercises, which you can either play through yourself or simulate. It's a nice addition but it's done well in that it only offers a tiny bit of improvement at a time, rather than making your player into a world-class star in an instant. Another addition is that in friendly games you can use an unlimited number of subs (however it's not roll-on roll-off which is a bit strange), but I can't help but ask why what seems like such an obvious thing was not included in any of the previous installments...? Otherwise so far it seems that career mode runs in pretty much the same way, I am not a fan of the global transfer market and scouting business at all but I can see why it would appeal to some people. One thing I am yet to check out is whether there is any change regarding changing jobs - I have now grown used to being rejected by two star teams despite winning a title, cup and champions league/cup treble in one of the top 5 leagues. I wonder if this has changed in 16? Soundtrack is great, very pleasant to navigate the menus listening to it. So far no trouble with EA servers or lags either, which I expected with everyone going on at the same time near release date, but EA have done well in this respect. Overall unlike the previous 2 installments I definitely feel like I've got my money's worth with this game. I would recommend it to any fan of the series, and even if very realistic gameplay may not (for whatever reason) seem appealing, I would suggest at least giving it a try as mastering it can be very satisfying.

perfect fifa game
Not a click batey headline I promise! It's certainly my favourite fifa game, besides this have owned fifa 16(ps3), fifa 15(ps3), fifa 18(ps4) and fifa 17(ps3, ps4 and xbox 360). A lot of people say fifa games are the same, but this simply isn't true, not only does one fifa differ from another, but they differ between platforms too, which is very important with regards to this game. First off the gameplay is my favourite out of all the fifas listed above, I really didn't like how the gameplay felt in fifa 15, didn't like the camera in fifa 17(ps4) and overall it just feels the best in this game. I do prefer the cornering system in fifa 17 tbh, but apart from that this game does it best. Also in this game you can have a bright white ring round your selected player, which really helps as a visually impared person, but in fifa 17(ps4) it's strangely missing. I say strangely as in fifa 17(xbox 360 and ps3) it's there, unless you activate it in a different way? But I'm not sure why you would. Training is in this game, personally I don't think it's necessary, but pretty sure I'm in the minority here. But important to note as it isn't in fifa 16 for ps3, and presumably all other platforms apart from the xbox 1? But similarly what's in this game but not it's counterparts on other platforms is the ability to loan players out for 2 year contracts, which is a nice touch. Also also an absolute god send, the ability to auto replace a player for a just one match if they're injured/suspended etc. This feature is a necessity basicly, as in fia 16(ps3) I found if I autod changing a player it changed my whole team around including those who weren't injured or what not which is really enfuriating, and to add salt in the wound this update to auto switching players along with being able to loan players out for two years is missing from fia 17 for ps3 and xbox 360 too. This game is also great as it lacks the transfer update found in fia 18 where transfers happen in real time so to speak. You might think that's a bad thing, but trust me it's not. Sure career mode is pretty much the same, apart from the few things listed above(though not sure which ones, if any were in fia 15 for ps4 obvs) but it's a football game...seriously. Fia 18 made things too complicated and convoluted. Football is the most popular and widely watched sport, similarly these are mainstream games, they don't need to be complicated, and realistically there's only so much that can be changed, without just changing things for the sake of it. So in summary this really is the perfect fifa game. Sure the players may not be up to date, but it has nice features like training, whilst still not feeling complicated just so it can claim actually it's not just the same game as last year. And as a personal note this was also the last fifa game York city were in:'( so worth buying just for that xd.

A solid FIFA experience
OK guys, FIFA is back. I've now been given ample opportunity to give it a go. First, I just want to say that I am a HUGE FIFA fan (the game, not the mafia-esque organisation). I made the switch back to FIFA in 08 when it introduced a bunch of new features and when ProEvo was losing its touch. I spend countless hours playing them. Dribbling: Does anyone remember playing Fifa 14 for the first time? You know, everyone dribbling in custard? Well picture that again. Dribbling has been made less responsive - or so it seemed at first. Once you get used to the slower reaction times and more laboured movements, dribbling is actually a lot better. You can literally dribble round and through people with those that have the stats. Shooting: At first I thought all shots were the same but the more you play, the more different types of shot reveal themselves. I don't think there is a near or far post OP in this game. You can score glorious long shots, to tika-taka passes into the net. Good variety. AI: Frustrating when attacking. Not enough runs are made and pressing triangle/Y can result in the most randomly placed passes. Suarez is making a brilliant run past the CB but Messi for some reason decides to lay it in front of Iniesta three yards back? Or you're stood not the edge of the box and want a tiny lay off for Toure to smash one top corner, but instead Silva does what can only be described as a weird shot? This happens and it is annoying. It seems they've made through ball more of a, well, through ball rather than the lay off it used to be. Also, don't bother trying over the top balls - they rarely work, seemingly always directed to the head of the opponent's CBs or full backs. Finally, 8/10 long balls are cut out by the CBs. This is great when defending but limits attacking opportunities. Passing: love the new hold R1+X/RB+A hard passes. It somewhat mitigates the interceptions mentioned above. Defending: One word. PENALTIES. I was averaging a penalty a game at first. It is sometimes impossible to tackle someone in the box. Sometimes you don't even press anything and the referee blows. The advantage of this is that, as an attacker, you can WIN penalties by cutting into a defender forcing them to trip you. But I'm sure many a controller has been smashed by a Cahill-toting ultimate teamer. AI has got a bit better - as mentioned, interceptions are more lively and covering has improved. Also, with a lesser emphasis on pace (see below) good defenders are actually good. Slide tackling is also a lot more graceful and those with better stats seem to slide a mile to win possession. Pace: It's pretty much gone guys. Dribbling seems far more important. It is frustrating that you often see Messi being caught by Mertersacker (true story) but overall I think it's better. It forced you to be better. You can't just rely on Adrian Ramos spraying past CBs any more. You need to create that space or dribble round them. It also means the better players are better. Muller, for example, is one of the best CFs on the game because he doesn't need masses of pace. Overall: A solid FIFA. Won't be drawn into EA and their antics. It's just fun to play and each match is sufficiently different to carry on playing. FUT is as fun as ever too. Can't comment on career modes as I don't play them.

Just... one... more... game...
Do not buy this game, it will consume your life and soul. This game is terrible, awful but it's also the best thing to ever happen to me, I can't stop playing it. All I think about is where my next Fifa match is coming from but I hate it. I hate what I've become. Just take a look at it on face value, it's bloody rubbish and you shouldn't go anywhere near it; Want to play online? Great! But be warned - everybody picks Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich and PSG. Finding it hard to beat those teams? Then you need to pick them as well and thus the circle of online Fifa is complete. Want to have fun while you play online? Well in the beginning you're in the bottom league so you'll probably win all the time. Fun. Then you move up the leagues and it gets harder and harder as your skill level is tested to the limit and you keep losing. Not fun. But it's Ok because you got relegated again so it's easier again and you can win again. Thus the circle of online Fifa is complete again. But you can play online with your own created team right? I mean I saw an advert with Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher just picking all the best players in Ultimate team! Well, not really. You literally have to spend hundreds (thousands?) of pounds or hours for this to be fun and is it really fun in the end? When you finally get 2m coins you can sign Ronaldoโฆ and then what? Buy the packs, sell the s***e players you've got in the packs for small amounts of coins, repeat. Thus the circle of Ultimate Team is complete again. OK, so the formats of gameplay are a bit annoying, but the actual gameplay must be superb, right? Wrong. Players will randomly move out of position, pass it to the wrong player, pass it the wrong way, pass it straight out for a throw-in for no reason. Shooting is random. Players will smash in perfect wonder goals from 35 yards but miss from 10. Goalkeepers will have brainfart moments that are all too common. Corners are basically impossible to score from. Skill moves are too hard to bother with. Got an injured player? Oh no. What's that โ oh he's fine now. Freekicks are rarely beneficial. Even if you've mastered scoring them; the other player has mastered the art of standing on the line and heading it away. Penalties can be scored every time by simply hitting it straight down the middle above the goalkeepers head. Once you've mastered this you never miss. Even if the keeper doesn't move or aims to dive 'up' the ball will just go over his head. Realistic. Tackling cannot be mastered, even if you do a perfect slide tackle the attacking player will somehow come away with the ball. But your defender is on the floor because he did a perfect slide tackle, but now he's nowhere near the attacker as he runs at your goal. But maybe all of this is because you're playing against a human and it'll be different against the computer? Wrong, all of this is still the case and to make matters worse the computer doesn't play like a human at all, so don't go thinking you can get some much needed practice offline to improve. Well alright, but what about 'Be a Pro' where you create your own player and just control him in a team. I'm obsessed with Fifa and even I gave up on this after less than one half. Nobody will pass you the ball. It's just an endless stream of every player sprinting at the other team. Want the ball? Try and tackle your own team and that is literally it. So the gameplay and how you play are all rubbish what else? There's a bloody manager mode! A mode where you don't have to play if you don't want and you can sim all the games! Amazing. Nope. It's far too easy and this is based on the difficulty settings. All the settings do is change how much money you get from selling players (as a percentage) you still get the same transfer spends and the negotiations are no harder. Do you see a player you fancy buying and his game value is less than the money you have in the bank? Congratulations you will definitely be able to buy him. It doesn't matter if it's Messi and you're Oxford United. It doesn't matter if Oxford United (for some reason) have 3 better players already in your team and he might not get in the team โ just lie to him (important first team player) and give him a goal bonus. If it's that easy to sign a player surely you end up selling loads of players the same way? Nope. Here's the skilful bit. You click the button that says "turn down transfer offer" and they don't leave! But what's this? Despite winning the treble 3 seasons in a row with Real Madrid (I had no internet so this was my Fifa fix), Cristiano decided he didn't want to stay, he turned down all contract offers, he turned down 600k a week. I didn't want to sell him, so I kept him right up until the end of his contract. He left as a free agent. And there he sat as a free agent for 5 years, signing for nobody and me being unable to offer him contracts as he wasn't willing to listen anymore. This also happened with several other players. I quickly learnt to just sell them off towards the end of contracts and buy them back again. You also can't just look at a player's rating, you have to bloody scout them. All of them, not just young players in Peru. I mean if you wanted to know what Ronaldo's rating was, you'd have to scout him. Oh but the prestige when you get offered an international management job. I won the bloody World Cup of all things. But what's that? It's not mentioned in the manager summary, it's like it never happened? What was the point? And there it is in a nutshell, what's the bloody point? But, I can't stop playing it. Five stars.

Better graphics. Gameplay tweaks. Different but good!
Undecided. Been a fifa player since 2003 and this is the game that is confusing me the most over whether i like it or not. Graphics 10/10 as always. Very sharp graphics. Most players look realistic Even the game play is pleasant enough. Shooting is decent, although slightly changed from fifa 15. Dont tap the shoot button anymore, it may only trickle to the goal keeper. Passing, providing you are patient, will provide you with many opportunities to play round the opposition. Defending takes some getting used to, don't hog the pressing button, you will lose your shape easily. one thing I can't get over is how every team (CPU only) plays exactly the same style (from Barcelona to Morecambe), which tends to be a passing round from side to side. Dont expect any long balls over the top from the CPU, they will only do that in the last 10 mins of a game. The CPU will have 90-100% accuracy on passing whatever league they are in on difficulty levels world class and above. It also seems like they have made the difficulty levels harder on each level .Make of that what you will. I could win quite easily on legendary on fifa 15 now world class is a struggle and professional is 2-0 wins. This may be a good thing, who knows. They have taken away the pace factor, making it harder for online players who use walcott etc. which is good (stops average players knocking it over the top) but in reality not much has changed. Online is much improved from last year as well! Not a bad game. But was expecting a step up from fifa. Still better than PES so don't listen to the people who tell you to switch (I have played both). Manager mode is an improvement. Pre season tournaments, training to improve attributes and general touch ups have made it an improved experience, if, like me you like taking over your favourite team and improving them. Overall 10/10 for graphics, 9/10 for passing, 8/10 for shooting, I would give the CPU 5/10 as it seems fifa have tried to make the game too perfect, which means they will pass it all day in their own half on higher difficulty levels if you defend well. Dont waste your stamina chasing them around. Defend as a unit. I would give fifa 16 a rating of 6/10 now I have played it more. Be patient and the game is fun enough. Would recommend to buy!

Good game, certainly an improvement!
Had this game turn up today, after already having good fun playing the BETA, back in August. The game is pretty much the same as the BETA with a couple of bug fixes here and there (no longer getting the keeper stuck on the advertising boards trying to fetch a ball that has gone out of play, instead of the game just throwing you another one)! People seem to be enjoying complaining about the passing system. I personally dont find the passing annoying at all, and think that people just dont like change. Passing has always been very easy on fifa (particulatly lobbed/chipped through balls), and this new fifa has made it more realistic, and expects you to hold possession more, and be more patient with possession than on previous FIFAs. I agree this would agree this has slowed the game down, but I find that scoring feels extremely rewarding when you have worked hard for your chances. While on the subject of shooting/scoring, I havent noticed any real difference to the shooting in the game, and dont see why people are moaning so much. I cannot give a view on the whole PES vs. FIFA argument, as I haven't played a PES game since PES4 on the PS2 (their lack of licensing has kept me on FIFA ever since). Overall, an improvement on the last FIFA, and certainly more challenging, but clearly the improvements aren't to everyone's taste, and most people WILL have to change their playing style in order to play this new fifa (hence why I think most people are complaining).

One for the good players ;)
As an avid FIFA player, I think this game is excellent. Would consider myself a good player (Got a few Div 1 titles, for all you season players). So is this game different to FIFA 2015, YES. Am I as good in it, NO, am I going to lose a few games and get frustrated sometimes because the mechanics of the game aren't exactly what I'm use to, YES. But that's fine, that's the whole point of releasing new versions of a game. I was getting bored of the mechanics in the last game. Personally I think this game is slightly more difficult, and less experienced players might complain why the passing isn't as simple or first touch is difficult. But I think they're both perfect. You need to have more accuracy and precision with your play, so you can't just HOLD X(A) and aim at a general direction of a player and hope for the best. Overall, one of my favorites yet, and if you're a decent player you'll enjoy the challenge of the new mechanics. Think they've done a fantastic job with changing enough to make it exciting without affecting the fun factor. Solid 5 ;)
