is this suitable for a 5 year old

I think it will be too big - I bought some for my nephews the youngest of which is 13 and that was touch and go. You may be better going for a kiddies' version - perhaps type 'sumo suit for 5-year-old' in Google or even 'child's sumo suit'. Hope this helps. Monique
