A great product
I bought this adapter on my son’s advice, having extricated the hard drive from my melted laptop. I had left the laptop overnight on a halogen cooker hob, which had not been turned off properly and the hard drive, although hot and blackened, looked undamaged. I connected it to another laptop via this adapter, and immediately heard a whirring noise inside the drive. The adapter obviously worked, but my excitement was short lived, as the files would not transfer. So I took the hard drive to a local computer repair unit where, unfortunately, they said they thought the files would be irretrievable due to heat damage. They said they could send it to a specialist company which might be able to retrieve the files - at a cost of around £500 - but they expressed doubt. In desperation, and before risking £500, I decided to have a go at opening the hard drive myself, and I bought a special screwdriver. I had imagined that there would be a tiny disc inside it, similar to a CD, that I would be able to put into another hard drive, to save my docs and pics. But, there were three little discs that sprang out when I undid their screw, and there was an orangey coloured PLASTIC part that had melted and hardened, and stuck other delicate vital parts together. In the process of trying to free the parts I ruined any chance of recovery that I might have had. I have no doubt that this adapter would have done the job I bought it for, and I am glad I bought it. It came quickly, was well packaged, seems well made, and came with instructions for use. I hope I will never need to use it again, and that no-one else will ever need to borrow it, but at at least I now have it should the need arise. The first 7 photos are of the product. The last 7 photos are for interest - for anyone who would like to see the inside of a hard drive. They also demonstrate why this great product did not work for me, on this occasion.

Perfect little thing to keep in your electronics toolbox.
As someone who's always fixing friends computers, this is an absolutely invaluable thing to have in the toolbox. No fuss, no faff, when someone's laptop is dead you can whip the hard drive out and recover all the data. It does, incidentally, work with a Wii U, which I used it for briefly as a stop-gap before I could get a proper enclosure. I will no doubt get plenty of use out of this in the future.

Works flawlessly
Works flawlessly. When using a USB 3.0 port, you won't need to use the second cable, at least for 2.5 inch drives. If your new drive isn't being detected on Windows 10: 1) Go to search (Cortana) and type "partition" 2) Click on "Create and format hard disk partitions" 3) You should immediately get an "Initialise Disk" popup. Click GPT and press OK to prep the disk. 4) Right click the disk in the list (should show up as one big unallocated) and click New Simple Volume. 5) Allocate the whole disk i.e. leave it at default max and press OK. 6) Allocate a drive letter 7) Format however you wish. NTFS is best for Windows, exFAT has better compatibility with Android / Mac but may not work on Windows 7 dinosaurs. Allocation unit size can be left alone. Label is the drive name. Make it snazzy. Quick format is best left on unless the drive previously had sensitive data and you wish to wipe it properly. You will lose data either way.

🔌 Seamless Storage Solution: A Review of the EkoBuy USB 3.0 to SATA Adapter
📦 EkoBuy's USB 3.0 Adapter: Unlocking Blazing-Fast Data Transfers As a tech enthusiast, I'm always on the lookout for reliable and efficient storage solutions. The EkoBuy USB 3.0 to 2.5-inch SATA III Hard Drive/SSD Adapter has caught my attention, and I'm excited to share my in-depth review. One of the standout features of this adapter is its impressive transfer rate. With a maximum of 5Gb/s, the USB 3.0 interface provides an incredibly fast and seamless experience when moving data between my devices and external storage. 💻 This is a significant upgrade from the slower USB 2.0 standard, and I've noticed a noticeable difference in the time it takes to transfer large files. The plug-and-play functionality of this adapter is another major selling point. With no drivers required, I was able to simply plug it in and start using it immediately, whether on my Windows, Mac, or Linux-based systems. 🔌 This convenience is particularly valuable for quick file transfers or when I need to access data on the go. The dual USB connection, which provides both data and power, is a thoughtful design choice. This ensures that my 2.5-inch SATA devices receive the necessary power to perform at their best, without sacrificing any transfer speeds. 🔋 This is especially important for high-performance SSDs, which can be sensitive to power fluctuations. While the overall customer feedback on the EkoBuy adapter has been positive, with users praising its performance and value, there have been some mixed opinions on the product's quality. 🤔 A few customers have reported issues with durability or compatibility, which is something to keep in mind. In conclusion, the EkoBuy USB 3.0 to 2.5-inch SATA III Adapter is a compelling choice for those seeking a fast and efficient storage solution. Its impressive transfer rates, plug-and-play convenience, and dual USB power support make it a versatile tool for a wide range of applications. 🚀 While the occasional quality concern is worth noting, the majority of users seem to be satisfied with their purchase. Overall, this adapter is a solid option for anyone looking to unlock the full potential of their 2.5-inch SATA devices.

Great value and functionality
Our laptop stopped working and would not power-up, so we had to buy a new one. However all of our home photo's were on our old laptop. So, I removed the hard drive from the old laptop and used this hard drive adapter to transfer all out old files to our new laptop. The product works perfectly: Literally plug and play and considerably cheaper than many other very similar products, so there's no need to spend more. Originally I didn't know whether we needed 2.5" or 3" but after looking up online, it seems that virtually all laptops are 2.5" vs. desktops which are 3".

Didn’t work in USB 2 port
The product didn’t work with my system. I tried it on USB 2 (no USB 3 available to try) and got USB device not recognised with or without a drive connected to it. Tried several ports, all working with other devices without success. However it seemed rugged and well made. Requested a refund as other reviews suggested similar issues, which was granted without any problem.

easy to use and perfect for recovering data off corrupt drive
After my sons HDD on his xbox one s started to show evidence of errors and a hard fault on the drive it was time for a replacement. I had an old sata connection kit but was causing errors left right and center (mainly due to the number of cable connections required), after 9 hours of trying and failing to partition and format the new drive I gave up and ordered this. It arrived the following morning and I partitioned, formatted, and installed the new drive in the xbox and everything was back up and running in 60 minutes. great piece of kit and does exactly what you need it to do.

Very useful!
i have a HP Pavilion DV2000 which i bought in 2008 but by 2010 the laptop screen would not turn on though the laptop itself was working. i've tried everything from connecting a desktop monitor all the way to taking apart the entire laptop, cleaning all parts then reinstate every part back. Anywhoo! By the time i realized none of what i was doing was working i requested several shops to recover all data from the HDD at which point they all said that cannot be done! (They must think customers are stupid) Then of course they would suggest i either buy a new screen or a new laptop itself. Several years into the future 2017 here i am! Great for recovering data from your old HDD or wiping the data of course once you connect the old HDD into another Desktop or Laptop!.

Recomendable.
