Good quality
I bought an Olympus first time but I had some problem whit it and I tried to found a Sony with lower price and it is. It is a little old type but I didn't need an expensive stereo recorder. I bought it and I like it. It has a lot of function, noise cut, microphone sensitivity (it is great function) etc butI can use it very easy. If you buy it you will be satisfies. Just an advice for you. If you make a record and you think there is a little distorsion then CHANGE the microphone sensitivity to LOW, if you use this staff in a big romm for example then you can increase the sensitivity, but if you use it for a simple dictaphone then you have to set it to LOW because it will be too loud for this. Really good.

Bad Design - Very Poorly Thought of product - Overpriced
There are several issues with the product. It is too big, too thick to carry in pocket. You have to use 2 buttons to start/stop recording; no settings for making the same button start/stop either. Screen is cluttered with cheesy icons; confusing. Unit is VERY SLOW. It shuts off automatically after a few minutes, no way to change that; it has a tiny horrible spring-loaded slippery button on one side, to turn on. You have to hold this button in position for a few seconds before it turns on. Then it shows gimmicky animation for a couple of seconds, and then after further wait, it gets ready. Then you have to press another button to start recording. By that time you will have forgotten what you wanted to record. Shocking that Sony can design such terrible product. It has many other features which you are likely to never use. You get a huge pile of manuals in MANY languages, however these are not manuals; they just tell you how to get started. You need to search on the internet for manuals! Many years ago I had a Sony device which was much smaller, thinner, ergonomic, used one AAA battery, and did not shut off automatically, and the battery lasted months with average use.

Great voice recorder for the price
Great voice recorder that basically does most of the jobs you'll need a recorder to complete. This is just the recorder so I have purchased the additional voice mic and extended lead mic. My previous recorder tended to switch itself on without my knowledge and then use all the battery but this model hasn't had the same problems. I use a voice recorder to record ideas and thoughts whilst out walking, reading or praying so it meets all my needs. I've also purchased one of these for my daughter who is s student and needed a voice recorder for lectures and she is also pleased with the item. Great basic recorder for a reasonable price.

This recorder can be driven from a mixer, computer sound output, etc.
There is no record level control as this is automatic but can lead to loud noises (i.e drums or piano) making the background instruments etc go quite when recording from a mixer etc. To overcome this effect the input must be reduced to an acceptable level. Lots of menus and editing features. PS I don't use the built in microphone.

No Rechargable batteries
I purchased this product under the impression that the item will be supplied with the batteries that can be refilled with the wire connected to computer/USB. I had previously purchased sony recorder 10 years back and got with the reusable battery. So this time I expected the same. The seller needs to mention clearly that the batteries for ICD PX240 sony recorder need to be replaced. Also the recorder seems to be an old version. Cant use it for long term. For those planning to purchase, please make note of the above.

Goed apparaat, maar slecht gebouwd
De kwaliteit van de opnames is goed. De geluidskwaliteit minder, maar verstaanbaar. Het deksel van het batterijcompartiment sluit slecht.

This is an amazing tool for recording lectures
This is an amazing tool for recording lectures, and other useful events. Audio by default is mp3 and sounds alright with a headphone. Just be sure to keep the recorder close to the source of sound and without obstructions or disturbances. Also smoothy transfer files to computer by copy pasting no additional software required. Happy recording!
