Heavy hauge steel, a bit stiff at first, but that will smoothen itself over time. Some reviewers were complaining that the top mounting holes are obstructed by the locking mechanism and springs. Don't listen to them, they clearly don't know much about DIY or mounting hardware in general. The holes are indeed obstructed when the hinge is in open position (duh!). All you have to do is to close it and the top two holes become fully exposed.So yes, this thing will take a thought or two to figure out the sequence of steps and what you mount first, second, third, etc...Just dry fit it all first, pay attention how far beyond the top of the hinge your leg will extend, then think through your steps in chronological order. It's a good hinge. The screws are merely OK (I'd replace them, with something heavier gauge), but they are serviceable. Pre-drill pilot holes into your wood too for splintering prevention.It's a good set of hinges and I'm looking forward to mounting folding legs on my murphy bed and mounting fake light lamps as a decoration to hide the leg itself. This is precisely what I was looking for.

We're using this for our chicken tractor, to make it easier to raise and lower it when we move it, and we've really liked them. They are strong, easy to use, easy to install, and quite dependable so far. They've made it SO much easier to raise and lower the (pretty heavy) mobile coop, and we're pretty pleased with them so far.

The hinges are sturdy, but the screws suck. The tops of 3 screws twisted off one while hand screwing into plywood. I did predrill I’ll maybe I didn’t drill deep enough. Still…. Hand screwing? I grew out their screws and used stainless steel ones I had laying around. For the ones that broke off into the wood, I used a metal drill bit and drilled new holes next to the factory ones on the drill press. For someone who doesn’t have a fully outfitted shop like I do, they might be screwed…. You can drill out the screw shaft and plug the hole and try again, but that weakens the wood, hence I decided to drill new holes in the hinge. Anyway, there is a bit of slop in the hinge where I can move my leg side to side ever so slightly but that’s fine for my purposes. I would recommend to someone depending on their circumstance but tell them to use better screws.

As you can tell from the video, it requires some pull with ONE hand. Overall it is a very awesome product and will buy for my next project if needed ! Used these to make fold down wheels for a chicken tractor. These cannot support much weight before they bend and twist. You also need to be aware that when releasing them, if they are under load there is nothing to resist that weight and they will snap down if you don't have something else to catch that weight. Lastly, they will rust so don't use them outdoors. Giving them three stars even though I had a 1-start experience simply because I think I was asking too much of these little things. They would be fine for cabinets and light woodworking, there's nothing 'heavy duty' about them

Poor quality control.Firstly, Very large sprue left within the mechanism making it impossible to close defeating the entire purpose. Since installing and uninstalling original working piece now has holes that make it difficult to get a good grip using the screws that come with it again.** They're not stripped but anyone knows that working with wood you only get a solid first attempt and anything after that is never as tight.Secondly, many of the holes they advertise are right behind a part of the mechanisms making them completely useless for installation.Lastly, they advertise locking in both positions but the "folded" position of the locking mechanism doesn't work for any installed purpose, the angle it is manufactured at is very acute, using 36" legs doesn't even get close to being able to lock in position so I'm unsure of how this was tested or approved.Very poor quality. Do not buy.
