Breakfast at Tiffany's

I remember watching this film when it was first released and, afterwards, wondering what it was all about? Later, I looked into that famous window and began to realise that this was every girl's dream - looking onto that window, I mean. Much later, I listened to the serialisation of the story on Radio 4 Extra and it all came together: I was now able to understand the film more easily. Perhaps in all this time I experienced something more of life, with or without Manhattan and Tiffany's, and it became clear that the leading lady was too big a name for such an incredible role! Audrey Hepburn, one of the most beautiful women in the world, and also a brilliant actress, was so good in the part of Holly Golightly, that she could play this earthy creature with considerable aplomb. This is a rather dated film that is timeless in its presentation of a world most of us could never relate to. It is an absolute classic that should be in everybody's collection.

As this is a very old film, other customers will know the story. I've bought this film a couple of times in the past, but when I go to look for it, its always disappeared. My relatives like my films as well. (They say they are just borrowing)! I'll hide this one, Really super love story with ginger tom added.

I love this film so might be biased but great quality

Most people, I guess, know that this is a great film and that Audrey Hepburn is her usual wonderful self in it. What an actress and personality! Along with terrific performances from the rest of the cast, great direction and Henry Mancinis music etc. etc.... All that remained to be done for this release was a blu ray transfer that did it justice. This is it....perfect! I would just like to add a comment to the question of the Mickey Rooney character. My point is... does anybody get excited about the likes of Jerry Lewis and his dopey portrayals or George Formby likewise. Or any other clownlike act? Relax...it is only a film. One must assume that people are intelligent enough to know that. The reviewer who said that if a Japanese actor had played the part in the same comic style, then there would be objections to that, hit the nail square on. There will always be some who object to elements in a film. And here I am doing a similar thing! Enjoy the film it is excellent....

It's an old film now and shows it. George Peppard and Mickey Rooney are weak characters and poor actors. But Audrey Hepburn's stunning beauty, sweetness and charm makes it all worthwhile. And her voice ... so enchanting I could listen to her singing Moon River for ever and a day ... Glad I watched it.

Well, yes, outstanding. What dare I add about a DVD with world class reviews. But the viewing panel here thought it was topped by The Devil wears Prada, and there was rejoicing to hear that a follow-up is in production.

This is such an iconic movie and although a few years old(!) it remains current in it's theme. Audrey Hepburn beautiful and eccentric, yearning for love, but intent on marrying wealth - The gorgeous George Peppard a writer, kept by a wealthy woman to kick start his career - they share the same apartment block, their lives are intertwined and he loves her - she loves him but won't give in to a simple life with no money - beautifully executed - would not think this film was first made way back when...a vision, a feast to watch - romantic comedy at it's best!

Having just read the book I was interested in revisiting the film. The first thing to say is that the film differs from the book in many, many, ways. I much preferred the book which was quite brilliantly written for such a short Novella. The film was a very nice watch in many ways, but for me was severely compromised by the quite dreadful character of Yunishi, played by Mickey Rooney. The character and acting are mind-numbingly awful, in fact, totally cringworthy and one of the worst portrayals in a film that I’ve ever seen. I am not talking of a racist slant here. This character does not figure in the book – Thank God! Both lead characters in the film, though not in the book, are ‘kept’ people who have to occasionally offer sex to survive financially – this for me was another weakness in the storyline of the film. The best thing about the film is undeniably the writing of ‘Moon River’ for the score, that went on to win an Academy Award – it is still one of the most beautiful songs ever written. Both the film and Hepburn won Golden Globes. Like some on here, I too found Hepburn’s portrayal as good, though not particularly sexy or outstanding. I think another lead may have offered more of a sexual attraction to her sugar daddies? She came across to me as a little girl lost and very naïve, and not as a sophisticated siren with real pulling power. The film won its awards and turned a 2.4 million dollar make into a 14 million grossing. It was an undeniable success in every way. It scores well on IMDB & RT - 8/10. I moderately enjoyed it but I’d rather read the book as it’s much more believable.

Un classique du cinéma américain dans une version remastérisée.

THE iconic Audrey Hepburn role. No one who is even remotely a fan can be without this one. The studio has done an amazing job with this movie. It looks like it was filmed yesterday, not over 50 years ago. Everything is sharp as a tack and the colour is wonderful. Not a mark, speckle, or blemish to be seen. The sound has also be remixed in 5.1. Although not as startling an improvement as the picture, it is still a step up, especially with the wonderful Mancini music. The only drawback to the picture is the portrayal by Mickey Rooney of the upstairs JAPANESE neighbour. Seems very out of place by the standards of today, but this was 1961 and this was not uncommon for Hollywood back then. (Even Katharine Hepburn and John Wayne played Chinese roles in different movies!)

A must watch movie before u die. C'mon people u cannot exist without knowing who Audrey Hepburn was.

I've been on a Hepburn kick lately and have never seen Breakfast at Tiffany's until now. It's truly iconic. I'm always nervous to buy DVDs through Amazon because I've had a couple of bad experiences but arrived in perfect condition. The seller clearly took the time to package it properly.
