A perfect high-performance NVMe pool for apps/containers in my custom TrueNAS box
I am using two of these 1TB drives in a custom NAS box I put together running TrueNAS. I have two 12TB HDD drives, two slower SSDs, and two of these great Samsung 1TB NVMe drives. While the majority of my backups are on the mirrored HDD drives, and the TrueNAS boot drives are the SSDs, I use these two Samsung NVMes as a high-performance NVME pool for storing apps, containers, metadata, VMs, databases, and PLEX metadata. This is ideal because the ZFS mirror offers redundancy for critical app data, low latency and high IOPS making it a great place for TrueNAS apps and datasets. These drives are the biggest real-world performance area of my NAS so I use it where speed matters most. The TrueNAS OS and temp jobs/work stay on the SSDs so they don't wear out these NVMes quickly. These drives are nice and fast for PCIe 4.0. They also were a great price at the time because of holiday pricing and they were on backorder for a bit, which caused the price to drop for a week, too. So the value couldn't be beat at the time. Samsung drives like these have never failed me, and some of my M.2 drives get quite a workout on my main desktop build! The only thing I would recommend with these drives is using a third-party heatsink on them that has a fan on it. It keeps these drives nice and cool during high loads. Without them, you run the risk of overheating and heat-related speed throttling, causing your drives to slow down while hot. So keep these drive cool by slapping a $20 M.2 heatsink+fan on there and never worry again! These drives were perfect for my new NAS, or for your next desktop PC drive replacement! They work great and are trouble-free for me so far. I will update if I ever run into any problems with them.

Really Great SSD Drive......and, great manufacturer
Used this new drive as a larger replacement for my C:/ drive (OS drive) in my Dell XPS 8930 desktop system. So far, this thing works great and is amazingly fast. My system originally came with a 256GB PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD drive. But, I was very close to the max limit on that drive and I was having trouble finding anything more to move to my secondary data drive. I also didn't really relish the idea of having to do a fresh windows 11 install and having to reload all my apps, data and everything else. I keep my system throughly updated and cleaned up, so I wasn't dealing with an old, bloated, slow install. I went with Samsung for this new SSD, for two reasons. First, I've bought Samsung drives before and was always impressed. But, most of all, because I was familiar with the Samsung Magician software that you can download free to do the data migration (cloning), as well as other ongoing drive maintenance. This free software will only allow you to transfer to a Samsung drive, so it's a no-go if you buy a different brand of drive. As expected, the Samsung Magician software is very good (now in Version 9.0) and it made the cloning of my old C: drive an easy and quick job. My old drive had nearly 220GB of data to be migrated to my new drive and it all happened in a little more than an hour. It copies and transfers every single bit of data from the original drive. Once it says the transfer has completed, you just shut it all down, transfer the new drive into your original C: drive socket and power back up. Everything is exactly the same as it was when you started. I had to use a UGREEN NVMe M.2 enclosure plugged into my computer through a USB port for the cloning operation, as my Dell desktop computer only has one NVMe M.2 slot. That was also purchased through Amazon for less than $20. So far, this new SSD drive is super fast and hasn't missed a beat since it was powered up. I highly recommend Samsung drives. One last note.......if you have questions or problems installing your new SSB, Samsung has a great customer service telephone help desk. Within 5 minutes of placing my call, I was talking to a very knowledgable computer expert that immediately answered my questions, made a couple of good suggestions and had me all taken care of. And, believe it or not, this guy sounded US based and was very easy to understand. All together, my problems were resolved in less than 10 minutes total, including a short wait to be routed to the correct product specialist. Way to go Samsung!

Very Fast Digital NVMe Storage Exceeds my Expectations
A new form of digital storage that is small and very fast. I link the files stored here to my Cloud Server, in the up direction, and can view them locally in the Mac Finder in the down direction... as is the case for all Storage device. This one is top of its class, a bit pricey, small, super fast, plug and play essentially and very quiet. You can occasionally hear the fan come on which is recommended over a heat sink which, for the non techies out there, means an additional piece of ribbed aluminum typically where the heat migrates and dissipates. A heatsink is available in lieu of a fan on many NVMe (Non-Volatile Memory Express) Flash Memory Devices, but I recommend a fan.

Top notch drive. Prices now may exceed decision to buy high capacity.
Fastest for Gen4. High capacity. Now way more expensive due to ram shortage so cannot comment on price. Stable, no issues.

Fast and reliable.
Best nvme out there, competitive on any level office desk to gaming to just move files. Grab it when prices go down.

The ultimate upgrade for speed and reliability!
I bought this 990 PRO for a customer’s build, and the performance is unbeatable. The installation is straightforward, and the speed jump especially if they are coming from a SATA drive or an older Gen3 NVMe, is massive. Samsung’s Magician software makes it easy to monitor the drive's health and update firmware, which adds a lot of value for the end user. It runs surprisingly cool for such a fast drive, but if the customer is doing heavy video editing or 3D rendering, I’d definitely recommend a motherboard heatsink. This is a "set it and forget it" component that gives the customer total peace of mind.

Reliable, fast, expensive... Reasons to get, reasons to avoid at the moment.
I love this NVMe M.2 and would totally consider buying more had the prices not become so outrageous. Every Samsung SSD, NVMe I've used has been very reliable. I have exclusively used them until recently. I've had to start using the Crucial brand as I can no longer justify the price to value. If you need something we're reliability is super important, and you have disposable $, then by all means pick one of these up. If price is important, like it is for many of us, I would sooner by 2 Crucial products, and use the 2nd for backups, which you should be doing anyways. You get much better value. If/when prices come back down to earth, I would give this a five-star and recommend it exclusively.

Top-Tier Gen4 SSD with Outstanding Performance for Creators and Gamers
I’ve been using the Samsung 990 Pro 2TB for over a year, and it has been one of the most reliable and high-performing components in my PC. My system includes: * Intel Core i5-12600K * Gigabyte RTX 5070 Eagle OC * 32GB DDR5 RAM * MSI PRO Z690-A WIFI motherboard * 4 NVMe SSDs totaling 6TB * Samsung 990 Pro 2TB * XPG Gammix S60 2TB * WD Black SN770 1TB * Lexar NM790 1TB The Samsung 990 Pro is dedicated to my content creation workflow, including video editing, gameplay recording, stock footage storage, project files, and exports. I regularly work with large video files, and this drive has consistently delivered excellent performance. Projects open quickly, footage scrubs smoothly, and transferring hundreds of gigabytes of data takes far less time than older SSDs I’ve used. Gaming performance is also excellent, with fast game loading times and a very responsive overall system experience. After a year of heavy daily use, the drive remains stable, fast, and reliable. I’ve experienced no data loss, no performance issues, and no unexpected problems. Samsung Magician software is also a nice bonus for monitoring drive health and keeping firmware up to date. Pros: ✅ Exceptional performance for video editing and content creation ✅ Fast game load times ✅ Reliable for long-term storage of important projects and data ✅ Consistent speeds even under heavy workloads ✅ Excellent software support Cons: ⚠️ More expensive than budget Gen4 SSDs, but the quality and performance justify the price Final Verdict: If you’re a content creator, editor, streamer, or gamer looking for a premium PCIe Gen4 SSD, the Samsung 990 Pro is an easy recommendation. Even after a year of heavy use in a multi-SSD workstation setup, it continues to perform flawlessly.

The best of the best
I've been an old fan of the 980 Pro for years, it never failed me. This 990 Pro tops the performance and heat management! The highest temp in Asus NUC 14 Pro (Tall) is 50c under pressure. Just wow!
