I saw this item and knew right away that I had to use it for my next romantic surprise. This item did not disappoint! It it very durable and weighty. The letters rotate very easily, so sometimes you have to hold the other letters in place while you line up the others.The instructions were very easy to follow on resetting the code.TIP: The letters will get stuck/hard to move if you put them on upside down while changing the code. I did this on accident and had a tough time prying them apart. They were designed to go together a specific way.TO PUT THE LETTERS ON CORRECTLY: Have the letter wheel in your RIGHT hand (letters right-side up) and the lock wheel that goes beneath it in your LEFT hand. If you put it together this way, you won't have any issues.The inside is a tube about the size of a quarter in diameter. I was able to fit several things inside to make the gift complete. I haven't tried the rings yet, so I do not yet know if they tarnish or not. The gold ring is slightly bigger than the silver ring (the gold fits my ring finger and the silver fits my pinky).This item also came with two extra screws and a pair of nonquality necklaces (small rope-type) you can use to put the rings on, I'm guessing. I honestly just tossed the necklaces.

I don't know where to start. Well firstly, I have to say I don't understand why so many reviews refer to the contents as cheap. I'm speaking of the rings and necklaces. For me, that's what clinched the deal. Two "Lord of the rings" rings? I love them. I wear the gold one and have the silver on the necklace. Now for the Da Vinci Code Mini Cryptex. First of all, it comes in a nice box with a magnetic closure lid. This was inside a gift bag. I didn't pay attention to the weight until I opened the box and took it out. This thing weighs roughly 2 pounds. Incredibly sturdy, and beautiful. Just don't drop it on your toe. 😉I quickly entered the pre-set code "ILOVEU", and out came the cylinder exposing the two rings. Oh boy, oh boy! The cylinder has two holes cut into it in the middle of both sides. A large heart and a small heart. If this is a problem for keeping smaller items in it, simply roll up a piece of paper and stick it in the cylinder to cover the holes. I've reset the password and had no trouble following the instructions as to how to do so. It felt like I was building a mini vault. Again, it's so heavy. Love it!I've read some people have had problems with screws holding the gears in place being stripped. Not so in my case. Everything is perfect actually. The gears turn smoothly and aren't wiggly loose. Btw, as stated be another reviewer, the right end of the cylinder can be unscrewed allowing access to the cylinder set screws without knowing the code. It doesn't allow the cylinder to just slip out though. You'd have to disassemble it from there. Personally, I find this a good thing. If you happen to forget the code, at least you can still open it, eventually. If you are really concerned about this feature, simply apply some type of heavy bonding glue or epoxy to the screw, and let it set.I hope this review helps make your decision easier.

This was bought for my grandson’s birthday with money inside. We gave him hints to the new combination that we had put into it. Good gift. Easy to install new combination. Workmenship was a bit sloppy which makes it difficult to get the combination in line. It’s nice and heavy. Which gives it a good feel. It should last a long time.
