I think medium should be fine - I brought one for my husband- 5"8 and 34" . they are not tight fitting and leave room for layers - depends what type of fitting you want . Very good product very pleased

Is this product made of ripstop material

I don't know of any pure fleece jacket that can be called ripstop. Normally that would be a woven man-made fibre fabric with stringer threads running through it.

I am aroubd 5 9 and 39 waist. XL is perfect. You may find XXL a bit big.
