Tailors Point Press Clapper

I am a seamstress and this tool is very helpful in ironing darts and tiny areas

I recently finished a very unusual jacket pattern that had some strange seams. This beauty would have made pressing those seams a breeze. Since I started making my own clothes and forcing myself to tackle difficult patterns, this was high on my wish list. It also serves as a great clapper.

Beautiful woodwork. There was a slight rough spot on one edge, but one swipe with fine grain sand paper, and it was smooth again. It is made from a gorgeous hardwood, and I expect it will last a long time. I had previously purchased this for my sewing classroom, but now I have my own!

I liked that it was well made and easy to use in pressing seams open and getting to the points on collars. Also I liked that it was made in the USA, in fact, in Indiana.

The pressing board is nice but the wood grain raised when I applied heat and steam to the seam I draped over it. The surface became very rough and snagged the fabric as I pulled it off. This is a pressing tools so it needs to stand up to heat and steam. This flaw makes it not usable for pressing. Returning.

This point presser seam clapper is much more substantial than the ones I’ve seen in the local fabric store. It is made of heavy solid oak that should last for the rest of my tailoring years and beyond. My only small issue is that it has a few rough edges, but a light sanding should fix that.
