This recorder is easy to use and was at a great price point to give new life to a bunch of old but excellent OTR cassettes and books on tape. Very few bells and whistles but has worked perfectly so far. It came with a 16gb micro SD card and a good quality USB drive to transfer recordings to the computer. Battery life is quite decent as well even while recording. The controls aren't exactly intuitive but they aren't bad either and as long as you follow the instructions it's a breeze to use. My only big wish would be that it have auto stop for fast forward and rewind but it doesn't. It does have auto stop for play mode though so it's not a huge deal, especially for the price point. If you're looking to transfer your old cassette tapes into the digital world and aren't especially picky about a bunch of bells and whistles, this works great, has decent build quality and has very acceptable sound quality. Sucks having to do the transfers in real time but there's no other way with tapes and with the auto stop in play mode, at least you can walk away from it and just flip or change tapes as your time allows, you don't have to sit with it. The display screen has a real time digital counter while the cassette is playing so you can gauge when you're towards the end of the tape as well. Getting to use it as an MP3 player with a speaker will be an added bonus later on.

This recorder/converter works very well. If I could give it 10 stars, I would. It is very simple to convert a cassette to MP3. And once that is completed, (if you want) you can take the SD card out of the converter, use the USB adapter that is supplied, put the SD card in it, plug it into your computer, and copy the files to your computer (as a form of backup in case something happens to the SD card). And, if you don’t want the music file that is on the converter when you receive it, simply delete it from the SD card while you have the SD card in the computer. The cassette tapes that I converted to MP3 were purchased in the late 80s, and the music on them was no longer available in any other form. So this converter allows me to continue listening to the music on the tapes (via MP3 files on the SD card) without fear of the tapes breaking. I also converted several CDs to the MP3 format by using Windows Media Player. Then I copied these files onto the SD card. Once the SD card was back in the converter, I could listen to the music on the CDs via the converter. Even though the name of the song or tape does not show up in the converter’s window, the converted cassette tape or song number does, and that allows me to forward to the number of the tape or song that I want to listen to. The converter’s fairly long play life means I don’t have to recharge it as often. Also, I can listen to the music while the converter is being charged. And I like being able to listen to the music with or without headsets as there is a built-in speaker. The 16 GB SD card has plenty of space for all the music that I would want to put on it. Hopefully this product will last a long time. Disadvantages besides the song name not showing in the converter’s window: The chargeable battery is built in, so it cannot be taken out and replaced if it goes bad. The manual, while helpful, needs to be edited by a person who has English as their first language.

After discovering ancient artifacts (cassette tapes) in my basement, I set out to find a device to play them. Digital conversion wasn't on my mind. I didn't even know such technology existed. What a time to be alive! For the price it didn't seem like too risky an endeavor (apart from the reviews that say this thing mangled their tapes, but that's a risk with any tape player). This isn't quite idiot-proof to use, although the instructions leave much to be desired. You need the on/off button on the side (different from cassette players in my day). It is very weird and confusing that it defaults to the SD card, which comes with a sound file of running water (as another reviewer pointed out, can be deleted). Also wish there was a window to see tape progress, but not a deal-breaker. Also as another reviewer suggests, start with a tape you don't mind getting mangled as a test run. It's all plastic but feels reasonably sturdy in your hand. The tape door is a pain to open manually too. Now, for the good. It didn't mangle my tapes, and I was soon tumbling down an audio rabbit hole of mixes from college, silly recordings I made with my sister growing up (in the days before camcorders), and old out of print music I hadn't heard in decades. The conversion process couldn't be easier. Just play the tape and hit record on the front (nice that it requires a bit of a long press to avoid accidental firing). It would be nice if it had a slot for a thumb drive instead of an SD card, although this makes it a lot sleeker to use, and the inclusion of a thumb drive SD card player makes this a great value (as well as an actual SD card. Who else throws those in for free?) Of note, a couple of times I put the card in and the screen said "No," which the instructions say means the card isn't properly mounted. But I tried a few more times and the message persisted, so I hit record anyway and it worked fine. I didn't really dive deep into the SD card capabilities on the player itself since I just put it straight on my computer. Another big bonus is the sound from the device's speakers. It's not Bose, but still louder and less tinny than I expected (this is good, because I started with headphones and the device seemed to have trouble registering they were plugged in, flipping back and forth between the phones and the speaker. A minor quibble.) All in all, this is a nifty little machine and I think well worth the price. Now make one to convert VHS tapes this easily!

My deceased mother left behind a massive cassette tape collection of family members talking, singing, etc. and I have been working to preserve those cassettes into digital (mp3) format since she passed several years ago. I've been using a different product that required a USB connection to the computer, but it recently died on me. It also had the disadvantage of preventing me from listening to music on my computer while running it, since the computer would pick up whatever was playing through the sound card. When my old converter died, I did a little research and decided to give this player/converter a try, and I'm glad I did. It is actually much better quality that the one I was using, and it has the added advantage of recording straight to the microSD card provided - no computer connection necessary. Now I can listen to Spotify or whatever I like on my computer as the cassette tape is being digitized off to the side. If your computer doesn't have a microSD slot to transfer the mp3 files once they are done, that's no problem either, since a USB microSD adapter is provided. The instructions are simple and I'm enjoying the conversion process again. The only minor negative is that the player is noisy when playing a blank section of the tape (the video I've provided illustrates how noisy). It sounds like the player is rewinding, but it isn't. However, the noise doesn't seem to get picked up on the final recording to mp3, so it's a minor issue. All in all, I am extremely well pleased given the price and quality.

Was skeptical about purchasing a device that could convert cassettes to digital, but decided to try it out since I still have quite a few cassettes with recordings that would be impossible to duplicate otherwise (i.e., radio broadcasts, educational courses, books on tape that are no longer available, etc.). I have already converted three cassettes to mp3 format, and I'm pleased with the results. The converter is simple and easy to use, and the buttons are largely self explanatory. The manual is OK, as the instructions are translated from Chinese to English and lose a bit of correct syntax or translation, but overall understandable. The 16GB micro card comes with a pair of test songs, which is helpful when setting up and learning the features. The card is large enough to hold a number of conversions, although I only convert one cassette at a time, and then transfer the conversion to my computer and erase the card before converting another. The only drawback I've found is that I can only convert one side of a cassette at a time; so each cassette ends up having two mp3s (i.e., Side A and Side B). It would be nice if the pause feature allowed you to turn the cassette over and continue recording so you could get the whole cassette on one mp3. However, you cannot open the cassette door in "record" mode, and once you stop recording, the next time you press record, a new mp3 is created. The sound quality is decent, but of course depends largely on your speakers (i.e., the computer speaker is tinny, but using a wireless bluetooth speaker sounds much better). I've found that the mp3 sound is pretty much an exact duplicate of the original cassette sound. I'm also glad that I can now listen to my recordings in my new car which does not have a cassette or CD player, but has USB ports which accommodate zip drives to connect to the sound system.

No problems converting cassettes to mp3. However (as others have noted), the resulting mp3 files play a bit fast. In audio editing software, I slow down the speed to 95%, and it then sounds OK. Update: I now have two of theses. I can confirm that the second unit plays at normal speed. So, the speed issue is only on some units. Update #2: Sigh, the second one has developed a problem in the last few days. The auto-stop isn't working most of the time (but not all the time). When the auto-stop fails, it will continue to record blank noise if you don't manually hit the stop button. Auto-stop works fine on the first unit. How many of these recorders does one have to order to get one where everything works? I'm still using the second unit, but you have to monitor it carefully. I've got another 75 tapes to record to MP3. ==== Final update (March 2024): I've now converted about 160 cassette tapes to mp3. So, despite the random quality issues, they are holding up to repeated use. Also (and this is important), the final quality of the mp3 is very high. No noticeable background noise, and they files sound as good as the original tape.

I had several cassette tapes I wanted to convert to MP3 format and decided to give the CR-381 a try. It arrived promptly, and I was pleased to find the battery fully charged, so I could dive right into the process. The device comes with a SIM card, which is used for storing recordings. While the card works well, I personally found it a bit too small for comfort—I was worried about misplacing it, plus it was a pain to take out and put into a third party reader to transfer data. Additionally, this added yet another step to transfer files to put them on the include USB Drive, but it’s manageable with the right setup. At first, everything worked perfectly. I recorded my first cassette, and it sounded great! The process was straightforward: Insert the cassette. Press Play on the panel to start the tape. Press Record on the digital panel. The screen displayed "Recording," and I knew it was working. Both sides of the first tape recorded without any issues, and the resulting MP3 files were easy to transfer. Unfortunately, things took a turn after the initial success after recording the first couple of tapes. The Record button would no longer work and it would not display the words "Recording" and did not record which made the product worthless. I tried several options and conditions to get it to work again with out success checking for available storage space, charging the batteries, setting the correct configuration to record, but none of these options work, I just would not record and it was worthless at that point. I ultimately returned it back to Amazon

I have stacks of cassette tapes which just don't get played anymore as everything is digital now days. I have a turntable vinyl record converter to MP3 and thought there must be a cassette converter out there so I went straight onto amazon and saw a few which didn't really impress me but then came across this little wonder and I am so very glad I did as it's a everything I wanted and more. The cassette player & mp3 converter is very well packaged with good instructions and USB cable. The device is really quite nice looking and all the buttons are easy to use and well placed with the usual buttons at the top for operating the cassette player and buttons on the front for the digital functions with a very nice and clear operational display. There is a wired earphone port but the built in speaker has good sound, OK it's not brilliant but sitting next to you at a mid-range volume it sounds good. Transferring to mp3 is very easy and I was amazed that the transfer quality is much better sounding than the actual cassette tape, I've transferred about a dozen of cassette where the music isn't available on any of the providers and it's wonderful to listen to the music again. I popped the card into my phone and downloaded the music so that I can bluetooth it to my Bose player, but I still play the tapes on this cassette player with earphones at night to chillout and enjoy the cassette as I use to, but have them backed up as the cassettes will wear and become unplayable but the digital copies are backed up for continued listening pleasure. The player came fully charged and lasted ages, it is slow charging but it does hold a good charge. An excellent device at a remarkable price!

Excelente producto, muy buena calidad

J'ai retrouvé de vielles cassettes audio de repas de famille enregistrés par mes parents et quel bonheur d'avoir pu non seulement les écouter mais les retranscrire en fichier audio sur la carte mémoire et ensuite mis sur mon téléphone et mon ordinateur. Très facile d'utilisation, il suffit de mettre la cassette audio et d'appuyer sur un bouton pour que le sont s'enregistre sur la carte mémoire. Vous mettez la carte mémoire dans la petite clée USB (fourni) et ensuite sur l'ordinateur et vous récupérer tous vos fichiers audio en mp3 ! Le son est excellent et c'est bien là qu'on l'attend et le nec plus ultra c'est la batterie rechargeable (plus de pile !) Ce que je pourrais reprocher c'est l'ouverture du couvercle pour insérer la cassette qui n'est pas des plus pratique. Evidemment c'est du plastique, il faut donc être délicat avec les touches (à voir avec le temps...).

Cumple lo que promete de sobra. Viene con tarjeta micro SD incorporada y trae un adaptador de USB para el ordenador. Según pones la música, graba automáticamente y puedes escucharla por el altavoz que trae, que se oye bastante metálica, o por la entrada de Jack de 3.5. Muy buen producto.
