SUIZAN Folding Ryoba Double Edge Saw 9.5" - Japanese Pullsaw Hand Saws

I bought this saw several months ago thinking it was an affordable way to try out the Japanese approach to fine cut saws. I've been thoroughly impressed with the design and performance of the saw, I just wish I'd known about them decades ago. The basic concept of the pull cut saw means that since the blade is under tension when pulled through the wood, the blade can be made thinner, allowing for the thinner kerf. For me personally, the pull cut allows me to be more accurate in my cuts and the folding design means I can safely store the saw just about anywhere. Add to that, this has rip cut and cross cut edges on the same saw so it takes the place of two tools and saves storage space. If all of that isn't enough, replacement blades are available at an affordable price should the need arise (I've considered ordering one to have on hand just in case but haven't gotten around to it yet). I'd really like to get the folding Dozuki offered by Suizan but so far this Ryoba has proven more than capable of everything I've needed in a fine cut hand saw. If you're considering adding one of the Suizan saws to your collection I highly recommend this company's products, their attention to detail and product quality is second to none and their prices are very reasonable for what they deliver.

This Ryoba pull saw lives up to the hype. I can make better, more accurate FREE HAND cross and rip cuts with this than I can make with my old standby Western-style push saw with a miter box or guide. Cuts are clean, smooth, and FAST. There is a small learning curve as you get used to PULLING to cut instead of pushing, but it took me all of 2 minutes to re-learn. The kerf is paper thin, so there is less waste. This also means that if you mistreat this saw, you will break its teeth. Be respectful of this fine tool, and it won't let you down. The teeth are SHARP, so use care when handling this saw. When this eventually wears out, I'll NEVER go back to a Western-style push saw.

I love it and it cuts like butter, I have used it on Cherry and Maple. It is a bit hard to get use to because of the design and the thin blade make it hard to get the cut straight. I am hoping it will get better with more usage. All in all it is a great little saw and I plan on using it in my wood working projects as well as when we go out camping.

We make Japanese sword scabbards in the traditional method, which means ripping hundreds of yards of board feet with a ryoba every year. This one is as good as most mid tier ryoba; so for the price it is pretty good. The folding mechanism is sturdy and simple. I look forward to picking up their steel back version.

Honestly i've never used one of these before getting this one and i realize what i've been missing. I had to cut a lot of dowels for a wood working project and this saw worked great cutting them flush without harm to the surface. It's very sharp, folds up smoothly and easily.

This thing is sharp and accurate! Be careful though. Pros: It works well. The fine side starts and cuts smoothly. The length of the handle and blade is also very nice. The length allows for accurate cuts. Con: A folding saw, with a two sided blade presents a safety issue. Be very very careful when handling this thing. Do not leave it anywhere where that your children or even an unsuspecting adult could get to it. And make sure you store it with the plastic guard installed that is provided by the manufacture. It's an extra step, but it will prevent you from cutting a finger like I did. In summary this thing is SHARP and works well but be careful!

I love this saw! If you don't try to force the cut, the saw allows you to saw nicely straight lines. It is much easier to use than a standard old-school hand saw. And the folding quality is great for someone with minimal space.

Used it for the first time, first, let me say I have had a few pull saws and this saw immediately got my attention. it is very sharp, and cuts like butter and the finish cut were clean. I also used it as a flush-cut saw which did a wonderful job, no breakouts on the cross-cut or using it as a flush-cut saw. Once my project was assembled, the joints were tight and very little sanding, great saw.

This is a fantastic folding pull saw. Teeth are sharp and without burrs. The saw cuts cleanly and without scraping. The handle is not as comfortable as I'd prefer due to the channel on the underside where the blade folds into the handle, but is good otherwise.

Great saw! Wish I'd known about this 20 years earlier. Super sharp and so easy to use.
