Hideaway Rack Mounted Awning

Installed on our Winnebago Solis and so nice to have a securely mounted, yet easy to deploy awning. Installation of the brackets (different purchase) takes a little confidence but was easy enough and worth it (would be worth having it professionally done if you aren't comfortable drilling a dozen holes in your van roof).

This is expensive but worth it so far. We put this on a 16 ft scamp camper. It does not come with a lot of instructions. You will need to order hardware. This is truly the awning and crank opener only. We ordered square bolts, and altered our brackets to make this fit. We also ordered a tension rod for support. The wall mount and rack mount are the exact same. Neither part comes with brackets, hardware or instructions. We watched a few videos to learn about what we needed and prep for install. This is easy a two person install, but a one person set up once it is installed. We added foam to the crank handle so we don't hit the side of our camper during set up.

Just installed this unit. The install went well. But then i inserted the crank handle and opened it up, and closed it. The mechanism felt very tight in both directions, and was worried that i might break the handle or strip the gearing while opening and closing. Hopefully the unit will break in and loosen up on the cranking process. The huge complaint i have is with then not being able to remove the crank handle. I messed with it for 45 minutes, read online tips, found that there has been a common problem with this and no able to find a solution. I even called THULE directly and spoke to their repair advisor, who admitted that he's had calls and its a problem. He suggested spraying lubricant into the slot, and pushing up slightly and wiggling it until it releases. I have done all of this and spent another 30 minutes trying. My handle is freaking STUCK in the hole. Im so frustrated. Im wishing id spent a bit more and purchased the Fiama. Its too late to return my awning (past 30 days) so it looks like a warrantee claim coming.

Came with missing Hardware awning seems to be well made and will serve my purposes however when I contacted thule of the United States about the missing Hardware items they told me that this awning is not sold in the US and was curious who I bought it from also suggested I contact United Kingdom offices about any replacement parts interesting I wonder what I do if I had a warranty issue with this item ?

The wall mount rack has a weatherstripping that seals the top of the awning to the wall, sealing rubber 302690 or 302693. You cannot order this in the USA, only Europe. That's not appropriate. This worries me about other parts if it ever needs repair.

Hi Tom I have thus awning and have had the crank handle stuck before. The solution is simple. When cranking add some constant upward pressure on the handle DO NOT pull down on the handle until you are done cranking. If you do this the handle will always release. Also keep the handle vertical below the awning as possible. This requires me to close the door halfway while cranking to keep the handle straight under the awning. Then I remove the handle and open the door, extending the legs to support the awning. Works every time that way.

Installed on my Promaster HR van about a month ago. Works very well, smooth opening and closing (hand crank mechanism). Very quick and easy to set up/put away. So far it’s worth it!
