What stops sometime from smashing this open?

It’s not meant to stop theft and if you wanna smash it open then you have issues and probably need to get therapy. Don’t throw money out the window by destroying that something you paid for.

Does the timer beep when the lid opens? I want to train my dog to eat her medicine at noon when I am not home.

At the first time I used it, it beeped a few times but in later usage, it beeped just once at every usage

How many phones can it hold at one time

It depends on the types of phones. I have an iPhone XS Max with and Otterbox on it, and it could probably fit two or three of those. Phones without cases would probably increase the amount of phones you can put in it.
