Can you use this light WITHOUT the stand? I want to lay it in the floor.

Yes, the light screws into the stand so if you don’t want the stand don’t screw it in.

Is there a way to turn the lamp on with the remote?

I don’t know exactly. I Purchased two lamps. One worked with the remote out of the box. The other lamp worked for a short period with the remote. Then stopped working with remote. Tried to program with remote as per instructions and will not. I would send floor lamp back, but since it first worked when I bought, I have disposed the packaging in which it came. I also tried a new battery in the remote, but didn’t fix issue. Sorry I have no answer for you. I have one floor lamp that works with the remote and one that works with foot switch only. Would not recommend.
