Fischer Wall Plug, Red/Grey, 8 x 40 mm

These Fischer Duopower rawlplugs (wall plugs) are absolutely fantastic. Like most of us, I've been using the standard yellow/red/brown rawlplugs, that haven't really changed in 50 years. When you open the box of these, you know they are something different. The manufacturing quality is plain to see. They are made in Germany and they ooze class. On the side of each plug is written the word Duo, followed by the diameter of the drill needed, and the diameter of suitable screws. This information is also on the box (Photo 1). The 8mm diameter ones are for use with screws 4.5-6mm diameter. The 6mm diameter ones are for use with screws 4-5mm diameter. (The length of screw is dependent on which plugs you buy, but the screw can be longer than the plug. Just make sure you drill a deep enough hole.) I have used 4mm screws with the 8mm plugs and they feel good and strong to me, however, it is advisable to follow the manufacturers instructions to be able to achieve the full load bearing numbers. They are lovely in use. Easy to insert, either push fit, or with a light tap, and once screwed in, nigh on impossible to pull out. The way they work is very clever, deforming themselves in 3 different ways, depending on the substrate you're using. All of the clever science is in the listing above. (The only place I personally wouldn't use them is screwing into plasterboard. I'm sure they would work well, but I'm a big fan of JCP Blue Rosettes.) Update: I have now tried them on plasterboard and they work well, however, I have found, that due to the crumbly nature of plasterboard, if you use a drill size 1mm smaller than stated, then they hold incredibly firmly.) They are more expensive than standard plugs, but not that much and believe me, the extra is worth every penny. I cannot ever imagine going back to 'ordinary' rawlplugs ever again. Great Wall plugs. I used them to tie a couple of tall book cases to the wall. I like the anti-retraction mechanism, it stops the wall plug pulling out if you’ve drilled a little too deep. I used them with 5mm x 40mm hex screws

As a handyman who uses a lot of wall plugs I think these are the best wall plugs for plasterboard. Obviously they have their limits and better fixings are needed for heavy weights. The one bit of advice I would offer any less experienced users is make sure you drill the right hole size and use the right screw size, the plug needs to be tight otherwise it will just rotate in the hole especially if the screw is too big.

Always use Fischer plugs. The Duopower plugs are excellent.

I live in a house that has a mix of dot and dab plasterboard on breeze block or brick walls, Some hollow frame walls with celotex type insulation between the plasterboard, And that very strange compressed straw behind the plasterboard (that stuff was popular in the 60's, makes for a lovely dense interior wall for insulation... both sound and heat) I was fed up of having loads of different wall plugs, and none ever seem'd to be particularly great. Then i discovered these, they say they will work on almost any wall type, and this seems to be true, I use 5mm diameter screws with these plug, and an 8mm drill bit to make the hole for them, a light tap with a hammer seats them, and they seem to hold everything i've put up with them well. i'm on my 3rd box of these now, the first box of them was used up adding scaffold board shelving around the garage (38mm thick for very heavy duty shelving) and i've stacked a lot of weight on the shelves and they are holding fine.

Far better fit than the cheap standard ones from the supermarket for putting up heavy weight shelves in my garage.

Bovendien zijn de fischer DuoPower-pluggen ook zeer duurzaam. Ze zijn bestand tegen vocht en schimmel, waardoor ze ideaal zijn voor gebruik in keukens, badkamers of andere vochtige omgevingen. Dit geeft me de gemoedsrust dat mijn bevestigingen ook op lange termijn betrouwbaar blijven. Wat ook een pluspunt is, is dat de verpakking van deze pluggen zeer gebruiksvriendelijk is. Met een duidelijke instructie en een handige verpakking ben ik nooit meer tijd kwijt aan het zoeken naar de juiste plug. Al met al ben ik uiterst tevreden met de fischer 555008 universele pluggen DuoPower 8 x 40. Ze bieden een uitstekende combinatie van gebruiksgemak, veelzijdigheid en betrouwbaarheid. Ik kan ze van harte aanbevelen aan iedereen die op zoek is naar hoogwaardige bevestigingsoplossingen voor zowel kleine als grote klussen. Een geweldige investering voor elk klusproject!

Je n'utilise que les DuoPower sur mes chantiers, jamais eu de problème. Bien respecter les préconisations sur la boîte pour les charges admissibles et les diamètres + profondeurs des vis à utiliser.
