HTA100 Integrated Stereo Hybrid Tube Amplifier 100 Watts

The Dayton Audio HTA100 has been a great addition to my office setup and an easy amp to enjoy day to day. I’m using it to drive a pair of Sony bookshelf speakers as well as a variety of headphones, and it’s handled both roles very well. With headphones in particular, it pairs especially nicely with my Beyerdynamic DT 880 Pro and Sennheiser HD6XX. Because it’s a hybrid design rather than a full tube amp, it also works well with planar headphones without the usual limitations or noise issues you sometimes run into with tube-only designs. Sound-wise, this is not a reference or clinical amplifier, and that’s part of the appeal. The HTA100 has a warm, slightly rich presentation that makes music feel engaging and enjoyable rather than analytical. Bass has good weight, mids are smooth and forgiving, and the top end is relaxed without sounding dull. It’s a fun, musical amp that encourages longer listening sessions rather than critical analysis. Power has been more than sufficient for my needs. It drives my speakers confidently with power to spare and has no trouble powering higher-impedance dynamic headphones. While it’s not meant to replace a high-end separates setup, it performs very well for an all-in-one unit at this price. Aesthetically, it looks fantastic. The exposed tubes, metal chassis, and clean layout make it a real visual feature on the desk. If this amp is going to live somewhere visible, it adds to the space rather than disappearing into it. For the sound, power, versatility, and visual appeal, this is a strong value. It’s a great option if you want one component to handle both speakers and headphones while adding a bit of character to your setup. Dayton Audio put together something that’s practical, enjoyable, and good-looking.

My current system is fairly respectable: Technics 1200 GAE turntable; Audio Technica AT33sa MC cartridge; Lehman Black Cube phone stage w/upgraded toroidal transformer; Klipsch Heresy 1s. This amp does no injustice to this setup. I have been using a Vincent SV-500 hybrid amp for the last 4 years. This is an excellent hybrid in its own right (it's over $1000 more). I also currently have a Fisher 800c tube receiver. This receiver is easily better than most new amplifiers at many times its cost, tube or solid state. Compared with each amplifier, the HTA-100 more than holds its own. The SV-500 I would describe as clean but slightly warm amp overall with a good soundstage. It sounds more like a really good Pass Labs SS amp overall. The Fisher of course is a standout amplifier, extremely liquid with a compatible speaker (like the Klipsch H1s), excellent tonal balance, and everything one likes about a vintage tube amp. I would place the HTA-100 somewhere between the two. It has a bit more tube warmth than either in some areas, however really good SS slam for rocking out, with a huge soundstage in the lower midrange. On the other hand, at lower volumes it is every bit as full, with delicate detail, deep image and amazing musicality overall. I would say it is closer to the Fisher than the Vincent. The best way to describe it is somewhere between the Fisher (or any good vintage tube amp) and good mid-70s coupling capped solid state. I no longer use the SV-500 and will be selling it. I use an A/B switch now switching between the HTA-100 and the Fisher to my Klipsch. I have not used the built in phono, as I use the Black Cube to support my cartridge. The Bluetooth works extremely well (I could stream from my phone anywhere in the house on 3 floors) and sounds really good for a wireless digital source. Every major input is available. Coaxial/optical digital, line-level analog, MM phono. It is also excellent with my TV. Build quality is top notch. The 5 year warranty is as good as any out there. Don't consider the HTA-100 as a $230 amp that happens to be a good value. It is a genuinely good amplifier in its own right. I would give it 6 stars if it were possible.

Khruangbin Amp! (the Khruangbin songs May 9, and Aug 10). I also like Alika Lyman (Night Orchid) and Quincy Jones (Soul Bossa Nova) anything like that. Transformers do not make any any noise, in signal, nor "ambient noise" (hum) in this amp that I notice. Class AB power amp section does not sound dead like a "class D". Lively, sweet. Just enough sound presence to place the edge of the soundstage there. Slight tube sound hologram, altho not exact instrument locations, as-in $5000 stereo imaging. What do I expect from a $240 desk amp! Silk dome tweeters, and paper cone speakers (even inexpensive speakers) do well with this amp, especially efficient speakers. Powers my 1988 JBL L100T3 speakers fine, however I find the JBL's titanium tweeters are a bit brittle, or metallic sounding with the bright "tube-ish" midrange. Might just be me, I still play them. I like the amp so much I ordered the HTA200 also. Bass and Treble controls stay at null, because the mids and highs (with tones at 12 o'clock, null) are kinda nice. Tube midrange should be so nice you don’t want tone control, and this is the case here. BT audio quality is often a unreliable, or dirty compromise in audio quality (compared to several other BT amps, receivers, BT speakers I own) but this Dayton BT input sounds okay. I always use either toslink or the aux RCA jacks, an RCA to Apple lightning adapter cord direct in (because a BT input is always a compromise in audible quality). Sometimes I set my iPhones eq to “Latin”. Subwoofer worked great. Awesome for what it is. I recommend this amp.

Being a bit older I’m used to the clarity, power and headroom of mid priced consumer level component systems. Comparing this to something like Denon or NAD would have of course be unfair considering the price difference. My first hookup was using a pair of 60w Cervin Vega 8ohm HTS satellite speakers. It pushed them fine at mid volume but did produce some clipping at lower frequencies past 50% volume. It definitely seemed to hit the 35w range at 8ohms but coming in a bit short of my expectations. Having an identical pair of CV’s I experimented running pairs in parallel to push the “amp” to 4ohms. The amps power definitely increased and smoothed out the distortion issues I was experiencing at 8ohms. This obviously isn’t a normal configuration but it satisfied my expectations. In addition to the main speakers I also added one of Daytona 12” 120w subs to this setup. After some break in the sub also met my expectations for the price. The amp obviously does get rather warm when pushed but nothing overly concerning so far. The transparency is good. The preamp tubs are a little bright but this can be easily adjusted. The amp did not come with extra tubes. So purchasing extra to have on hand is a must. It’s a beautiful looking unit but time will tell how it holds up to the abuse. The five year warranty is a good reassurance.

Excellent build quality and sound! So many output options as well! It is incredible what you get for the price you pay. Not only looks amazing but sounds amazing. BE AWARE before you buy: If you have 250 ohms headphones like me (Beyerdynamic 770 pro), it will sound low even with the volume knob cranked to the max, and bass will sound very flat on the headphone output. This is mostly for low impedance headphones.

Beautiful design and build...but NO WAY is this 100 watts. 40 to 50 watts best. I am an audio service tech for 40 years. Sounds great! I'm keeping it because I do not need any more audio power. Not for you if you want to "jam" even a little.

It really sounds great considering what it costs (and even well beyond). I just received it so we’ll see about longevity, but right off the bat here are a few drawbacks I’ve noticed. There is a noticeable volume disparity between the digital channels and phono channel - and while that is to be expected due to the nature of a record player, some sort of gain control for that channel would be nice. Second is the tubes are bottom lit by LEDs, which I know looks cool to some, but I find it a little gimmicky and makes them look like they’re red plating. Third, NOS Soviet tubes are used here, and one is fairly microphonic; more so even than I would expect a preamp tube to be. Luckily they can be cheaply replaced with old Sylvannia, Amperex etc. Fourth is that there is no remote. Overall though I am very pleased, it has ample connections, and it is very clear and quiet - clearly a fairly well laid out circuit. I am running it with 4ohm/75w Martin Logan Motions, powered Martin Logan Dynamo sub, and a Pro-Ject Debut Carbon turntable. It isn’t going to knock the walls down, but I gets plenty loud for a medium sized room. Where is really shines is at medium volume levels - it’s detailed and clear with nice tube warmth. Would absolutely recommend.

I'll tell you right away that I'm in love with this hybrid integrated amplifier. The mechanical construction is excellent if we consider the price but it is really also very nice to look at. This is the latest updated version of this product, it has the DAC which allows you to connect it to PC using the USB port. The bluetooth has been improved and now the antenna is external, it uses an SMA connector. The transformers are toroidal, this is great. The speaker connection is more than adequate for direct wire connection or "banana" jack. Those looking for linearity from a tube audio amplifier should reflect on the technical aspects that are part of this technology of a few decades ago and should know that this is very difficult at this price. The musical octaves, in a system with a valve audio preamplifier, are absolutely correct and the sound is qualitatively very coherent. You can try swapping out the vacuum tubes but why change the tonal character of this hybrid integrated amp? Choose suitable loudspeakers because synergy is important. You cannot expect to use loudspeakers with 2 8-inch speakers because the current supplied by this class AB amplifier is not much and so is the power. It is obvious that then you have no linearity if you combine unsuitable loudspeakers ... or worse. I don't need to have a very powerful amplifier because I use high-efficiency loudspeakers and I can assure you that this product will make listening to music pleasant, even for extended periods. Combine with suitable loudspeakers and you will have maximum listening joy I am absolutely satisfied with this product.

Very happy with this amp the sound is warm and distinct, no problems worth worrying about for what this amp costs. I have no issue of the amp not having a remote control, after all if you are playing a vinyl , then you will be constantly up and down to change records, and guess what, getting off your backside occasionally, you may even loose a few pounds.

El amplificador es una buena opción de compra, está bien construido y se siente de buena calidad. Lo tengo en mi oficina con unas bocinas bookshelf Mourdant Short Mezzo 2, la nitidez es buena y la calidad de audio es excelente. Obviamente no es un equipo high end, no se puede comparar con los amplificadores de bulbos de alta gama, pero si buscas un equipo high end, con buena relación precio/calidad es para ti. Te recomiendo usarlo con las mejores bocinas que pueda pagar tu bolsillo. Vale la pena.

Still burning in,fifty hours done , sound improving nicely, Not as harsh as solid state to my ears, Running a sub with it to boost the bass , Happy with the sound and improving daily, Good quality build, quite fan running cooler than I had expected but not pushing it to much.
