I am a recent ileostomy recipient, and am only now after months of trial-and-error gotten to where I can pretty well manage the regular changing out of my pouch and wafer flange that holds the pouch to the stoma in my side. Amongst the things I do to help control my stoma output just when I plan to make a swap-out, I found that in addition to Imodium and some other meds for slowing down my GI tract activity, a couple of Rice Krispies treats also were a handy way to help add a bit of 'blocker' to my output so that everything slowed to a stop and I could safely & cleanly make a quick change out of my pouch and go about my day. I was getting worried though about all that extra sugar in my diet (I already have to drink about a gallon of Gatorade a day to keep hydrated and with sufficient electrolytes to compensate for what I lose through the ileostomy). After reading through the ingredients of the Rice Krispies treats, and checking with a few forums online for ostomates like me, I got the idea that perhaps the key ingredient in the treats was the gelatin that was the crucial thickening agent. So I bought these. It's been about two months now, and so far the gelatin capsules seem to be doing the trick without me having to choke down 2-3 sickly-sweet Rice Krispies Treats. I swallow down six capsules of gelatin with the imodium and other meds as part of my prep, and I have had no problems or messes with my stoma during the shower and swapping-out of the appliance. For anyone else who may need help like this, or even just something that's safe to take in addition to medications like imodium for controlling your digestion, I recommend giving this a shot.

I am trying to grow out my hair ...at the age of 65!...and it seems my hair had gotten quite a bit more thin and brittle, and slower to grow. The Solgar Gelatin Caps (3 times a day) seem to be helping! I started taking them a few months ago and I'm already starting to see some improvement in hair strength. I'm seeing hardly any hair coming out when I wash my hair, and there is much less hair left in my brush and comb. Even my daughter has commented that she is seeing more growth. I also take biotin and folic acid. Feeling encouraged at the improvements I'm seeing. The Solgar Gelatin Capsules seem to be a good product with no ill effects. Not really seeing much improvement with my nails, however. I do handle yarn a lot and tend to worry and pick at them, though...so that might be something a supplement can't help. I have always had weak nails that peel since I was a child so really didn't have much hope that they might suddenly start being decent nails at my age, So overall...it's all good!

So far, I've taken 3 of these a day (regretably off and on) for about 3/4 months - I can say that it seems like they're working. I have a spot of tension alopecia/thinning right in the front of my head. And, it definitely seems like my hair is trying to get thicker. My nails are for sure feeling better! They were as thin as paper, but they're really getting sturdy while taking these. Ordering my second bottle, and we'll see how it goes.

I have been researching gelatin. It supports joints, skin, digestion, sleep and even blood sugar regulation. I have been taking gelatin for close to a year now and have definitely noticed an improvement in all. Im at the age where collagen is on my mind.
